I posted my Lost breakdown here, and everyone was supportive and lovely. Just as I expected Smiley. I also posted my breakdown on another forum where I was met with derisive comments and an email from the moderator asking me NOT to post about other companies products (well, one company in particular, but I assume it extends to all others) because of my job - for those who don't know, it's no secret that I work Customer Service for Rittenhouse Archives, another trading card company.

My question is this : Am I being stupid, naive, etc. in thinking that because I pay my money for cases of Company Y's products that I should be allowed to post like any other collector? That, when I'm excited about something (for example, Veronica Mars) that I should be excited and post that I'm excited, or that when I'm disappointed in something (for example, the high number of damaged cards in Lost) that I should be able to post that I'm disappointed.

It's been suggested that I should keep my mouth shut. That I do not post about "other" companies products - well, then, what would I post about? I don't buy much Rittenhouse stuff, when I do - I try not to post because I think *that* would be the conflict of interest...

I need free advice - what should I do? Should I comply with the forum's moderator and stop posting (which would mean in effect an exile - with nothing to talk about, why talk at all) or should I stand my ground - that I pay my money so I should be afforded the same privileges as any other collector.

Am I stupid, or stubborn, I guess is the second part of the question Smiley HELP!!!!!!

Stand your ground.  You've made your case quite well here, so you should do the same with the mod who's giving you trouble.  I've seen mods on another forum post as individuals (stating that they were taking off their "mod" hats).  You should be able to do basically the same, even though you work for a card company.  Everyone knows you love collecting and I truly fail to see why posting a case breakdown should be a problem.  It isn't as if you're getting your case for free because you have connections -- you clearly stated that you pay for your cards.

Stupid?  Definitely not!

The fact you don't post much about Rittenhouse cards when you could really bend ears over them speaks volumes to me - you could be seen to be biased in their favour, but you choose not to do this and that's a mark of a true professional to me.
I don't believe they have anything to complain about - you've bought your cards like everyone else and if there are things you're happy or sad about then you're entitled to speak/post about them like the other members.

I agree with Cindy and Marcia - it's the mods who are at fault here and don't you dare ever think you're stupid, cos that's not true at all! Kiss
We value your insight and opinions even if they don't! Wink Grin

Yep ... definitely stand your ground on this one because your freedom of speech is being eroded and in effect you're being bullied and intimidated into not posting your thoughts and comments, which others might find helpful and informative.
I've no idea how you're going to word your posts to reflect this, but I feel the mods are abusing their position of 'power' and as such should be made aware of this.

Good luck and do let us know how it goes won't you? Grin

Are you stupid?  A big resounding NO!

I can see how you might feel a bit uncomfortable posting case breakdowns of Rittenhouse stuff, but even with those cards you are just stating facts.  No one (on here anyway) thinks you are trying to push Rittenhouse cards.  In fact the odd little snippets you do mention are always very useful and very much appreciated.

With any cards you buy if you get two autos you say two autos.  If half the cards are damaged you say how disappointed you were and then hopefully follow up with another post about how helpful the company was in replacing them.

I was going to start this with lots of laughing smilies cos I do think it is laughable.  Maybe I am being naive but I honestly can't see the problem in anyone posting about the cards they have got.  That is the whole point of these forums.  To share the good bit and commiserate over the not so great bits.

I mean after all it is not like you can get cards from any company.  If you want Harry Potter you go to Artbox, if you want Lost it is Inkworks etc.  People collect cards for the subject matter, not the manufacturer.

Anyway I do think you should stand your ground, providing it does not cause you any upset personally.  Otherwise just keep posting your breakdowns here - I know I read them all and get excited for the openers  Smiley

You know, forums like there are here for the simple fact that we can talk and share our likes and dislikes, and show off the cards we get, or didn't get Wink  Anyway, that is the point of the forum.  You are not at this other forum as a Rittenhouse employee, you are there as a collector and your job should have nothing to do with it.  If you go and spend your own money on a cse of Lost cards, you should be able to share your thoughts and all just like everyone else.  You are by no means stupid.

Look, you bought a case of LOST, which is a hefty chunk of change. Since you had a problem with damaged cards, it benefits eveyone else if you inform us of that.  I don't think posting about the cards you purchased from another company is wrong. In fact, I think it should be seen as a compliment to them that someone from a rival company decided to buy a CASE of their cards. You certainly weren't responsible for the poor quality in your case. I just don't feel it's a conflict of interest, but you know how political some things can be.  Lips Sealed

Maybe you should have your discussion with someone higher than a mod.

I love you guys Smiley You've really improved my mood today. I have sent an email to the board's owner? operator? What do you call the person that runs the forum anyway ... and tried to lay out my side. Haven't gotten an answer yet, but I'm sure he needs time to digest all sides.  There are certainly business aspects to look out - he's not out there to make enemies and if my posting jeopardizes their income, well, that's something he'll have to consider  (though frankly, as you say, I'm spending my money to buy their products, you think they'd appreciate that  Tongue )

I did tell him though, out of respect for our personal friendship, that if he says the word, then I'll stop. I won't argue anymore, I'll just walk away. And I would. Just means I'll have to bombard you all with tales of my trading card joys and woes  Angel

I can't believe that!  If you buy product it shouldn't matter WHO you work for.  Posting a breakdown - even when things are flawed/damaged - shouldn't be a problem.  I'm just gobsmacked that this was even a situation...

Hopefully I'll have news later today. I'm waiting on a phone call to seal my fate. Kind of like waiting for the governor to issue a stay of execution... Not fun Sad

Sketchqueen.
I wouldn't worry about what people say on "that other forum".
I think you should not be restricted to Post your breakdowns just because you work for another company.

Neither should you apologize!
You said nothing wrong; people just take it the wrong way.
Kind of a habit most people have there!

Anyways, don't worry about it.
I think you did well!  Cool

Sketchqueeen,

i shouldn't worry about.... don't feel you have to defend yourself all the  time!!! The mods on that board can be very overbearring sometimes!!! I think they're hell bent on world domination..... i could be wrong!!!

We all (i know i do mate) value your opinions and views (as i do everyone elses). Without these critics how can anyone make judgement calls on products??

I recently got into a spot of bother there too over asking for confiration on an ex-dealer/board member and the fact he may have swindled a bunch of collectors out of cards and money.... but it got blown out of proportion as it always does!!!

Bottom line, you're not stupid.....say what you gotta say... its your right isn't it??
