I got my Monster book card that I won off ebay, and as I figured, it's not the same as either photo the seller had in the auction.  This particular seller has a rep for putting up stock photos on auctions and not the real swatch, so I was aware I was taking a chance.  Anyway, I don't want to return it or anything since I got such a good deal on it, but here's the question.  The swatch has a half moon cut out section on the right hand side.  I figure it's either the part of the book where one of the eyeballs was, and in that case a nice varient, OR it's just a crappy miscut swatch.  It's got no hair at all, just dark brown leather.  What does everyone think?  Thanks!  Kelly

We'll have to see it. Maybe it's one of those little googly-eye things and the black pupil part fell out of it when they cut it for the swatch. Huh Huh

It's really hard to say where this particular swatch is from ... I would say it was a variant Kelly as most swatches are hairy ... a few look like wood and then there's swatches similar to yours.
It could be part of where the lettering was and the gold leaf has come off y'know ....  Shocked
Still, it's a really nice card and a keeper. Wink

Great!  I just got out the magnifying glass to look closer.  You can't see it in the photo because it's in shadow, but to the right of the top shield, if I angle the card to look under the cardboard I can see a very small part of another circular cut out.  Maybe this is from between two of the eyes. Or a nostril?   Any other opinions?

Here's a picture of the book.  It looks like there are areas not covered by fur, just leather.

Thanks, Kbmum!  How cool is that?!  I think I'll settle on the missing eyeball theory.  It may not be true, but it could be, and that makes me feel good.  Wink

It's definitely a variant.  I can't recall seeing another one like that. Smiley

I'd call it a variant too - the "variant queen" has spoken. Wink ROFL!

Yes deffo a variant Wink a "miscut" is likely to have a sharp edge (I have a couple of miscut ones so I've been there)

If I say that is a miscut swatch can I have it  ROFL!  No that is a lovely card and I think it might be from the edge where the book opens.  I only have a wooden one at the moment and would love a furry or leathery one like yours  Grin
