Not sure if it is the same in Alaska, but I know for a fact that the USPS makes a $7.70 flat rate priority box that can fit up to 6 Harry Potter POAU boxes, so it should fit 3 non sport boxes pretty easily. I use them all the time. You should mention that to him and request $20 or so back. According to my post office, the $7.70 flat-rate box is good for Alaska, Hawaii, and APO/military addresses. Even if he used his own box, three boxes shipped priority would not come up to $30. Dave, when you receive the package, make sure to check how much the postage cost before you open the box. If it isn't listed (like when a label is printed through PayPal), weigh the box. You'll be able to go to USPS online, and with your zip code, the seller's zip code, and the weight, you'll find out exactly what it cost to ship. Then, as Jules suggested, you'll have the proof to push hard for a refund. Insurance will probably double the shipping cost on that one for an international shipment. Unfortunately, the US Postal service is VERY lacking in options for insuring international packages. Insurance for international packages is ridiculous. I had a buyer in Australia ask about insuring a card. The only way to do it was to pay $14.50 to ship International Parcel Post plus $1.85 to insure the item worth up to $50. (Parcel Post is the only USPS shipping method that allows insurance on international packages.) The whole package weighs 2 ounces.  Global Priority Mail is great for $5.00, but it cannot be insured. I tend to agree with Sharon that this seller knew exactly what they were doing and how to word the auctions to catch out the unwary!  The sad thing is, I wouldn't say that any of us are unwary. We're all pretty sharp about this sort of thing, and often post about questionable auctions to warn others. Until now, I thought it was reasonable to assume that if an auction says a box is sealed, that means factory sealed. There are plenty of auctions for re-packed boxes, so someone -- be it the seller or the person/business from whom he bought the boxes -- purposely removed the packs with pieceworks and resealed the boxes. My bet is that the original owner did this to fool whomever was buying the contents of his/her business. If one were buying a huge lot of boxes, that person might not take the time to check every single box for a factory seal, never mind that some boxes (like POA) have clear shrinkwrap with no logos. |

Anna- I just opened a sealed Inkworks box and only got 2 base sets. I am about 8 cards shy of a third set. Is this not normal
Valerie is right, you should get 2 complete base sets from an Inkworks box although they only guarantee for one complete set.  |

I actually had a situation where I bought a box of sports cards and the seller had bought out someones inventory. I got the box and low and behold the box was resealed and all the cards inside were just base cards that were loose inside with some paper surrounding them so they wouldn't make noise if you were to shake it.
Luckily the seller refunded my purchase and he had told me that he had many people with the same problem. Luckily he was a good seller and probably lost his butt on the deal when he bought them.
Jules I will keep on top of this seller and believe me I will make sure he refunds me at least $20 of the shipping if not I will wait til the last day and leave him some negative feedback. It really bothers me when people try to make money on shipping, if it is .50 or .75 no big deal, but when people charge $10 for shipping a box and it cost $5 that is crap. I once had a seller who charged me $4 or $5 for shipping and sent it in a regular envelope with a .37 cent stamp, that po'd me a lot.

Sellers who try to make a profit off shipping are really just shooting themselves in the foot. I don't mind someone tacking on a bit for packaging and ebay fees, but ripping someone off on shipping is just not right. They would make more money with repeat customers than they make with high shipping rates and one time buyers.

Just for info. I waded through this sellers feedback, which on the whole is very good. But in January they got a negative from a buyer who complained they had received a re-sealed box. The seller left a reply which said something like the advert didn't say factory sealed so tough. This wasn't the first time they have done this  |

But, if the descritpion says sealed, everyone is led to believe factory sealed. If they are re-sealed, they should say just that.

I make a profit on shipping, but generally that's because I give away stuff and only charge for the shipping, but round up - So, if I'm offering a single *free* promo card that'll cost 60 cents to ship, I charge $1 (helps to cover envelopes and such) -- but, I *am* in fact, making a profit by doing that ... Guess I always knew I was *evil* deep down inside -- tee hee hee... |

I don't mind the slight increase sellers do with shipping. I understand they might be trying to cover the listing fees, or PayPal fees. But it does bother me when I see someone saying $5 for a trading card when it only costs under $2 (or less) to ship it. It is the same with video games. They cost about $2 to ship, and sellers have $7, sometimes more as their shipping charges!!!
When bidding on an item, I make my max bid what i wouldbe willing to spend, with the shipping charges already figured in to it. So sometimes, with the high shipping charges, you are really causing people to bid less than they normally would....

I would think of it as compensation for time spent packaging up and mailing the item. I charge $2 to ship one of my charms. But that includes ebay fees, paypal fees, postage and packaging. I end up making about .9 "profit" but I don't think my customers really would be upset about it.  But what if I charged $5 for shipping? $3 additional profit on each charm? Sounds great, but my customers would go elsewhere. |

Your possible actions depend on how you paid. You can file a claim through PayPal to get a refund, or for non-PayPal transactions, you can file the complaint through eBay under "report an item not received or not as described."
You can also report a fraudulent seller to eBay Safe Harbor.

The first two boxes with binders took 2 weeks for delivery (won on Aug 15th, arrived on Aug 31st) because the seller said he had a family emergency. He mailed the other 2 boxes that I won a week later together with the other stuff. |
