One of the growing collectos craze's in the US is Giftcards (Bit like the old UK Phonecards) Issued in many supermarkets etc in the US,  (Even a few UK stores do them instead of Gift Vouchers now),

Some US Stores seem to be going to extreme lenghts to attract attention to the giftcards they have.  with 3D, Talking Smelly and every other trick you could think of.

There are some lovely Harry Potter ones out there, and as an area of collecting mainly overlooked in the UK at the moment, I thought you might like to see these

There are others and can be seen at http://www.collect-giftcards.com

I've seen lots of those around town.  But don't you have to put a minimum balance on the cards in order to get them?  I saw a really cool Star Wars gift card at Target.  It had a button for light saber sounds.

A lot of the stores will give you one as a collectible just ask at the checkout, Target are normally very good in this respect.

If they won't and its a particuarlly nice card you can just put $5 on it and use the $5 towards something you need from the store

Hi Roz

thanks for the info on the LOTR and Batman ones.

I think I have about 800 different now, I am nowhere near complete listing and scanning them all, so little time (Real work keeps interfering!)

I got into the giftcards about 10 months ago,  some of the 3D lenticular ones really caught my attention (Magpie syndrome!)

So I asked in a few stores and they said they were happy for me to have the odd one, and it has grown from there.

A lot of the people in the US who collect Casino collectibles (Chips, Room Keys, Players Club cards etc), are also big Gift Card collectors so working in Vegas and always having one eye on Casino Collectibles made it ineviatable that I would soon be collecting these.

Some of the early cards from 1998/9 fetch over $1000,  but on the whole its still a cheap and fun hobby.

Hi Mike

if you are in Tampa FL as per your profile, you should have no problem finding them at your nearest waldenbooks or borders etc,  just ask at the store i am sure they will help you out, if not email me and i will sort you out.

I just got my first gift card at Target today.  I asked and they gave it to me for free!  A X-Men card, #4 in the Marvel series.   Cool

Hi Kelly

Well Done,. Thats a nice set of 6 Foil cards, If you see any other Targets you may well find No2 and 3 still around (I havn't seen any no1s for a while), remember at Target the giftcards are all over the store not just at the registers, so you can often find the Special ones at the end displays in the toy section

Yep, that's where I found mine.  In the toy section.  I actually tooled all around the store to try and find the Star Wars card I saw a few weeks ago, but no luck on that one.

Target had this one in the book section before the book was released, but its a bit boring, it was never by the registers but hidden in with the books

Did you get the potter one from borders/waldenbooks?.
