It's a sad day.  James Doohan, who played Scotty on the original Star Trek series, died this morning of pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease.  He was 85.

This has just been on our TV. 

He was a great Star Trek character and more importantly never seemed ashamed or fed up of it.  I loved his cameo in TNG and was very sorry to hear of his death, particularly as he leaves a young family behind.
