I am in shock. I just turned the TV on and there were reports from London that there were several blasts in the underground train network and on busses. They are calling it a terrorist act!!!  This is scary....are all our UK shack members ok?? |

I was just about to post - I can't seem to get any definitive news on it... everything is in disarray and confusion, unsurprisingly. Apparently it was at least 6 confirmed blasts on trains and buses according to our news. And the BBC newsite is down at the moment so I can't check up on the news there. I hope you are all OK - please let us know what's happening  |

BBC site down? Blimey! Anwyay it's back up now! No idea what's going on and my best friend (Londoner) is on the phone/engaged so I can't check he's ok - maybe his mother is calling him   Oh Lord - is this something to undermine London for the Olympics? OK one friend missing who takes the 9.15 bus from Kings Cross each day. Phone dead! However I'm not panicking yet because they have cut out all mobile phone providers to the centre of the city because they think there's a chance that mobiles may be the bomb trigger!!! *Keep breathing* And from the Skating forum in London - a quote! But remember--the whole point of all of this is to scare the sh*t out of us. That's why it's called terrorism. Let's all keep the head and defy these b*****ds. Stiff upper lip folks! Other snippets According to one expert right now on ITV (dunno what the BBC is doing) they wanted to cause chaos, not to kill a lot of people (which is horribly easy with a bomb as it's *impossible* to check everything). But there are still fatalities  Chaos and fear would be the objectives. Massive loss of life would simply incur greater wrath and loss of sympathy (yes, sometimes people do sympathise with terrorists).
oh ok. then theres no way this was intended to minimise casualties. otherwise the attacks wouldn't have been tubes then busses. also you'd do it before comutters were arriving to get tubes closed if you were just wanting to disrupt.
I've heard today is the first day of Abul Hamza (man with hook) 's trial at the old bailey, as a more plausible reason than G8 or olympics

are they really though? Im surprised by the lack of panic. It may be the biggest Cliche but Blitz Spirit and all that.... maybe its just human nature. There're saying it's Al Quaeda on the BBC now. I've just heard from a friend who has a friend who works for the BBC that they have found at least 5 other bombs that didn't go off. |

There seems to be confusion everywhere!! Apparently it was at least 6 blasts, 3 were believed to be on buses and 3 on the train network! I am honestly in shock sitting here watching this and the first thing I thought of was my friends here on the Yak Shack... Dont worry Roz, mobiles are all cut out so you probably just cant reach your friend for the moment...I have two friends that work with us over there at the moment but I cant find out how they are until I get into work tomorrow, dont have their phone numbers at home |

All the phone networks are down...
According to sky news, its most likely due to G8; too well co-ordinated to be due to the olympics, that was only announced yesterday.
Hope you can get in touch with your friend(s) soon.

It's fairly sickening actually - London was a target at it's easiest during G8 because the best part of our security forces would be in Scotland.
But I really do wonder whether it's about Abul Hamza - is his trial in the US or here? I can't remember - there was so much of a fuss about it

I can just see the repurcussions now - hate crimes and backlashes against the Muslim community - right now no-one knows for sure what the cause was, but I bet my Legolas FOTR that you'll have people out there formulating their own ideas and trying to take matters in their own hands for revenge  |

Oh for sure... I just hope they realise what London needs right now is unification and support, not people attacking each other and shouting unfounded accusations. Even if it WERE extremist Muslim parties involved, you can't blame those Muslims living in London - as you said Roz, many Londeners have Muslim friends and many Muslims would have non-Muslim friends - neither would wish death and destruction upon the other!!!  apparently al-quaeda have already claimed responsibility
