I was transferring music to my ipod mini when I looked at the stats - its the 6GB version, but why is only 5.4Gb available? Would anyone know where the remaining memory is taken up with? I have read the instruction manual 4 times with no enlightenment whatsoever Tongue

Thanks for any help Smiley

Take a look at the hard disk on your laptop - 40? 60 Gb?

Now tot up how much space you have to use 36? 55 ish?

Well that's because once you format a drive it is instantly smaller - space is used up for allocation tables - it uses this space to index the files on the disc so that it knows where the files are. The bigger the hard disk you are using the more space needed for this function.

Ah - thanks Roz! I should have thought that it was similar to my computer as well... though I didn't fully understand the reasons for that either Tongue

Did you find a case for your brother's iPod? I'm on the lookout for one now Smiley
