Removing fingerprints from cards?

Hi guys,

My 10 case incentive wand card just arrived and its amazing but its covered in fingerprints. Ive been trying for the past 20 minutes just trying to rub them off softly with my cotton gloves and its sort of doing the job but is there a quicker way? Any help appreciated.

Can you post pics?  I have only ever pulled a couple of sports autos with major fingerprints, but I think they give the card some character, it makes me think they were chowing down some PO-TA-TOE (as Samwise the great would say) chips when they were signing.

Although I have no idea how to get them off, and be careful, it is probably better to have fingerprints than a damaged card without :'(

Although I am cracking up just thinking of you sitting there with you cotton gloves trying to rub them off   It is just to funny.

Well I dont know.  Thought it better to be safe than sorry. They look so shiny now which is cool. I will though take some pics of the wand prop card and try and post them if my camera decides to let me. but I wasnt sure if having fingerprints on cards really matters or not so I just decided to try and rid my cards of them. Hope I havent done anything wrong because that card cost me alot.

Where are the fingerprints, on the wand or the card?

It's a good idea to remove the fingerprints, as the oils could eventually damage the card.  Use a soft cloth that is free of chemicals and rub a small area very gently.  It could take a while to do this.  I have a Disney Treasures filmcard that has a big fingerprint right on one of the cells, and I'm having a heck of a time trying to remove it without damaging the cell.

We were sorting our Batman cards over the weekend and I forgot to tell Alexander to wash his hands first and now I have a hologram with my soon-to-be 7 year old fingerprint smack in the middle Least I know who put it there ... And, I did use a gently cloth to pull up most of it, but skin oils are ridiculously hard to get off without damaging the card.

Thanks for the tips guys. I just used my cotton gloves I was using for opening my cards, I was wearing and rubbed the areas gently with my fingers. All marks came free so Im happy. They are both brilliant cards though and Im pleased to be able to add them to my collection. Cant tell if there is anything on the wand but it was just on the front and back on both cards. All good now though, and my Dean Thomas auto is also fixed.

Just remember to wash your cotton gloves before handling any more cards, otherwise you'll transfer the fingerprint oils to those cards.

I bought two pair of cotton gloves. One for me and one for my 11 year old. I find that with a little light rubbing after some puffs of warm air (as when cleaning eyeglasses) on the offending FP seems to take them off.
W A R N I N G ! W A R N I N G ! If you are one of those people who exude typhoon-like quantites of liquid when cleaning your lens, don't attempt to clean a fingerprint off your cards. Limp soggy cards may result.
