HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict?

Does anyone else think that a lot of the cards are unnecessarily thick?  The more I get the more I think this.  Some of the cards I can see why they made them so thick but with others you can look sideways at the card and see the swatch did not require such a thick card.  Any thoughts?

I was thinking that too.  But it might be that Artbox wanted to keep thicknesses somewhat uniform.  Lots of the cards are 130 pt.  They probably wanted most of them that thickness so to avoid having some at 130, some at 110, others at 115, ect.  Maybe easier to package that way with a certain number of base cards?

I did send an e-mail to Pro-Mold telling them that the collector community needed a screwdown that would fit a card of 190 pts.
That would take care of the Fluffy Fur and Wand Props thickness.

I got an answer that they were not currently planning a product of that size. (Typical stock reply?)

Perhaps if we all sent an e-mail it might motivate them.

One thing you have to consider is how few of these cards over 180 point exist.  Even if every one of the Artbox cards made went into a screwdown holder it probably is not enough sales to offset the design, manufacturing, and stocking of such a beast.  There are very few, if any, cards this thick in the sports card world and that is honestly where the bulk of screwdown sales come from.

And what is next, a screwdown to fit the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory grass prop card?   It really is a never ending battle, trying to keep up with Artbox's desire to make unique cards.

This is a guess, but I think they picked the kangaroo because if you look closely, you can see some cards in its pouch - I think the company is trying to infer that your cards are kept in a safe place if you use their product.

If you want to let them know what you think of their products, and what products they should make, there is a Feedback link on the main page of www.pro-mold.com.

US residents will get a free sample sent to them.   International folks will get a catalog and price list.

Can't hurt to let them know.  And there is also an opportunity to sign up for a Pro-Mold newsletter so you can find out if they ever make that uber-thick screwdown.

I wouldn't trust my cards in the claws of a bald eagle, even if it is our national symbol!   I like the idea of the kangaroo better because if anyone tried to take the cards from him, he'd punch their lights out.

I hope that you all take my comments with an eye toward humor. No offense meant to anyone (FTY, especially to you. McG, maybe. ). I am often told that I have a droll, sarcastic, and weird sense of humor. Which is why I don't quit my day job. Hey wait a minute, I just remembered... I was downsized from my last job.

You got me there And Kate is quite right - it would take a LOT to offend us Aussies, especially me John, so you fire away. I would say my sense of humour is very similar to yours

It is true - but it was as a reaction to the fact that they were overrunning the outback and destroying many native habitats as well as farmland. At first they just shot the roos, skinned them and sold the pelts, leaving tonnes of meat to rot in the desert. Then a bright spark had the idea of using the meat for dog and cat food. Shortly afterwards, some other bright spark thought about using it for human consumption. Waste not, want not.

For anyone who is a bit daring - I suggest you try kangaroo if you can - it has a quite interesting flavour! Very lean, with a gamey flavour for those who like that. Make sure they don't overcook it (medium/medium rare). I think we export it to the US and UK!

never tried roo meat, im put off by the whole Aussie icon thing...and anyway, there are so many they are starving to death, so a little culling here and there isnt such a bad thing...

Size: the same as we need to roast a crocodile. As for who would turn the spit - Steve Irwin and Mick Dundee of course. Taking turns.

fair enough. I have enough trouble eating steak, let alone things like kangaroo ( dont eat rabbit, snake, emu etc either...)

Roo meat  erm no thanks...like Kate I would have trouble too...roos are just so aussie and I wouldnt want to eat one  They are cute animals..if you dont get a wild one that wants to punch you in the head until you have nothing left but brain matter..then they are great and actually quite friendly. We had one at a paddock near my place (yes im a bit too country out here) and it came up to me and sniffed my shoe *gasp* so I slowly reached out my hand and patted it on the head. It flinched a bit but then sniffed my hand..very cute animal.

Kiddies please dont try this at home because it is actually quite dangerous. Kangaroos are wild and untamed and should never be approached!!
