HPSS Card Thicknesses - what is the verdict?

I though this might be helpful for people to know the SS card thicknesses:

HP SS Card Thicknesses

All Autograph cards fit in a 20 pt. screw-down case

All FilmCards fit in a 50 pt. screw-down case

Most of the prop cards will not fit in standard sized screw-down cases.  The ones that are 130 pt. will fit in a super thick toploader (or hinged box) and the thicker cards like Fluffy’s Fur can be stored in a hinged box (see link).

NOTE:  pt. means point.  Paper thickness is measured in mils , 1/1000 of an inch = 1 pt.
           So 120pt = .120 inches, 175 pt = .175 inches, etc.

NOTE:  Hinged boxes are not PVC-free, so they are not recommended for long term storage.
           Pro-Mold is in the process of coming out with a 175 pt screw-down case, but as of now,
           there are no screw-down cases on the market that I'm aware of.

Awesome work there Anna... wish I could help but I don't jave any cards - however I have not been idle, I've been adding lots to the price guide I assure you! Unfortunately a side effect of looking at past auctions has made me start to bid on current ones - eek!

Thanks!!  Yes, last night, I took Anna's suggestion about those snap down card holders and bought one that probably holds about 25 regular cards.  My Fluffy Fur fits great, with some room left for the fur to remain "fluffy"

Great work Anna, I have started bidding on some cards on eBay for my SS collection. Although I have some different size screwdowns, it is nice to know what sizes are need for what cards, so I can stock up on the sizes I am running low on. But you should be careful with Monster Books, they can use too much room for things you don't want.

Yes the two that I pulled are like this.  They seemed to have used foam tape under the top of the card to keep it level (you can see it if you peek sideways through the swatch hole).  Artbox may have done this to standardize the card size to the thicker ones since it was too thick to be a standard sized one (50 pt).

If I tilt my Fluffy card that way, I can see thru the swatch hole just slightly.  I think they made this one so thick only because the fur is so, well, fluffy.  Better than crushing it with too small of a card. Although, this is not even a card anymore at this size.

They certainly have gone for chunky in this set. Are there any normal thickness cards? (not sure what that is in pts ) Are they just doing it to make storage a nightmare? I like my nine pocket but they don't fit very well

Yes, if possible if anyone comes across suitable card cases it would be good to note them here. Ideally we'd like to know all of the ones that everyone has tried But I guess you don't all live next door to the Ultra Pro factory shop

So what is the verdict on the costumes and props of this set?

I know there are lots of objections because of their thickness... fluffy is monstrously the size of 12 base cards!!!

And the thick cards do cause problems with storeage... how is everyone keeping them? Mine ar currently piled carefully together in an Ultra Pro Deck box because I can't put them in sleeves and certainly not toploaders, not even the thick ones

However before I complain too loudly at not knowing where to store them, I have to say this is probably a good move on Artbox's part. Why? Well the early costume cards were far too flimsey, Take a look at your Lupin jacket... we sent a costume from the first set to a LOTR collecting friend of ours and he was most dissappointed with the way the card was so thin and you could see the where inside the card the costume finished etc.

The situation worsened in the PoAU set where I saw numerous cards that were so stuffed with thick material that they had either not glued properly, or had burst open at the right hand end of the card near to the swatch.

So obviously something had to be done.

What do you guys think?

I am fine with the cards being this thick as long as I can find a nice way to put them in a binder or store them, and at the moment I am stumped.

I know in the past Artbox have had their own Ultra Pro style storage sheets made, - for their LOTR Action FLipz sets, and also they have had white backed 9 pocket pages made for their "FilmCardz" sets, I wonder whether they would consider making very weird pocket page sizes just for this set?

I don't fancy sticking a Devil's snare and other equally rare cards into a 4 pocket page loose and just trust it to luck!!!

Valid points Roz (as always) and safe storage certainly didn't seem that important when Artbox were designing these cards.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of the cases which Anna mentions for the Fluffy card here in the UK, as I only want one of them for my Fluffy card not a case of 100!

Great link Anna and $15 for 100 is a bargain, but by the time I got them to the UK with the weight and everything it would probably be more like $50, and I only want a handfull

And are these things acid free?

I presume you guys are not putting your cards straight in Toploaders - where have you found ultra pro type penny sleeves big enough?

We can't get hold of most of things you mention here in the UK! 
I've tried getting the single screwdown cases for my LOTR costume cards but most US sellers won't ship them abroad because of the weight :'(
Team bags ... where the heck can you get them from if you only want a few ...

Sorry to winge so much but it's a real problem for most of us over here, as nobody is prepared to stock them and the shipping costs make them SO expensive to get from abroad.
