Doe anyone here own one? Im thinking about getting another dog; I already have two, both jack russell x mini foxy, but Id like to get another, much smaller dog. Any thoughts or opinions, or even suggestions of another small dog...?

I was looking at the Yorkies, quite appropriate given my last name is York, but I think they are a bit bigger than what I was looking for...

Chihuahuas are about 1-1.8kg, Yorkies are 2-5.4kg

I think Mike meant that they "shake". And he's right, they do tremble a lot. I baby-sat (doggy-sat?) one before and chihuahuas are very excitable. They bark at everything and the trembling takes getting used to. They are very needy and like to be held a lot. I became quite attached to the one I was taking care of. So if you can endure the barking and trembling, they're very lovable.  |

This is quite funny! My mum has a Yorky (named Peppers) and my sister just got a Chihuahua (named Sage) last year. The size of both of them depended on their mother and father you could say. The Yorky is a tad smaller than the Chihuahau. Both of them run to us when we come back home from errands or what not, and they want immediate attention.
We had Peppers a lot longer than Sage. He is very territorial. He'll bark at almost anything! He also howls at fire alarms coming from Fire Department place. Also, he loves being put on the couch just to sit beside you.
Sage can be described as feeling like a stuffed animal according to my niece. She really craves attention and loves to sit on our laps and get pets. In fact, she directs our hands to where she wants petted the most.
I'm not sure if the habbits of our dogs are quite representative of the breed, but they are both wonderous! We love them dearly.

In terms of the excitement and shakes etc, I already have that with my two dogs, so that wouldnt be anything new. They sit and quiver at your feet till you feel sorry for them and give them a pat or some food. My younger dog is also very yappy, as she is part mini foxy, and they are known for their yappiness. I like the idea that they are more cuddely;its very hard to get a good hug from a jack russell , especially one that weighs 7kg. Im going to go puppy hunting today, so Ill see what I find, but Im in no hurry to buy one.... |

If I got a dog it would probably be a labrador or alstation or something quite big. I'd be afraid I'd step on a small dog like a chihuahua!

Ive had big dogs before, mostly border collies, and I love them, but I live in a small house with a small yard, so little dogs seem to suit. I already have two small dogs, and I am always tripping over them, especially when the phone rings, so I figure adding one more to the mix wont make much difference |
