Don't want to cross the line here and if I am I apologize.  Roz would it be possible to set up a small section for those of us who also do some sports card collecting so we can trade and share news of some great sports cards we have (I recently pulled my first, second and third) Tiger Woods Auto Cards One actually has two tournament worn shirt swatches and an auto

Also pulled a 1/1 baseball card (nice) and a 3/5 BB card (AROD).

Of course in the spirit of this site I would suggest we keep it light on the sports card stuff (other than trades and VERY rare cards).

Anyone else have any opinions on this (and hope I didn't offend anyone with this suggestion)

Well I thought I had a thread with some pics of some neat sports cards I have or have really been unique well I really bit the bullet and picked up a card that I have been trying to get my hands on for a while finally I have it:

Here is the card I guess I own it now so I can post a pic rather than a link.  Just a little history on this jersey which was worn by Babe Ruth in 1925 and was bought at auction by Donross/Playoff a couple of years back for $250,000.  This was one of only 3 I believe Ruth NY Yankees pinstripe jerseys in existence (there are a couple without the Yankee pinstripes).  I think the baseball Hall of Fame has one of the jerseys and the other is with his daughter I believe (something like that).  I think they can get about 2,000 jersey cards from a jersey.

I can't believe I picked one up with a seam and stitching too, only about $50 more than a just one stripe swatch:



Do our YSer's outside the US know who Babe Ruth is?  He might be best described as the Michael Jordan of baseball if that helps.

I've heard of Babe Ruth, apart from the fact that he's a famous baseball player, I don't know anything about him. Does he hold some home run record?

It is actually from one of only 3 jerseys (known to be worn by babe ruth when he played).  This card is cut from his jersey that was bought by Donruss for $250,000 a couple years back.  They have used it in several different baseball products.  The card is not 1/3, I wish.  This card is actually #'d to 50.  I bought it, I wish I had pulled it, but it comes from a box that cost about $150 a box, so if you figure the odds it was a great buy for $380.  The nice part is it will always retain its value that is for sure.

He is considered by some to be the greatest baseball player ever and held the homerun record for about 50 years or so (something like that) and no one even came close for a long time.  You were pretty close I am impressed Jo.

All in all it would probably feel twice as good as pulling a Daniel Rad auto if you were a baseball card collector (although I don't know how it would feel to pull a Dan auto...yet).  He was also considered a real man of the people (if that makes sense).

/50 is still fantastic, although I can't imagine spending a quarter of a million bucks and cutting it up On the other hand, its great that 50 people at least can share the memory of such a man of the people, as you say And for $380, that's quite a steal!

I think they get about 2,000 swatches from a jersey.  They have used it before and in other sets.  I might be one of 2,000 or so collectors to have a Ruth swatch from that jersey, but considering how many baseball collectors there are I think it is pretty rare and special.

I have a few low number cards also. One of My favorites is My Yankee Classics John Goodman autograph card as Babe Ruth. I pull Him and Yogi Berra out of 1 box.
My lowest is a Reggie Jackson autograph Stamp Jersey card number 3/5

The card is in route to me currently I am anxious to see it in person as I think it will be one of those that a scan doesn't do justice with. 

I have pulled a few 1/1 cards and a couple one of 3 or 5 cards.  I have some real nice ones that I will have to post some scans of soon.  I pulled a Tiger Woods auto #/10, that is probably worth a few bucks.

I felt that way about My Goodman. it was a online redemption and when I got it I was so happy.
it is nice making a pull like that.

Of all the baseball player's pieceworks to get, this one has to be the one out of all of them!
I know nothing about baseball except the name 'Babe Ruth' - I've heard it mentioned many times over the years and I'm aware that a LOT of Americans hold him in the highest esteem, so to get this card for what you bought it for is astounding!
I think it fairly safe to say you did pretty well on pulling the Tiger Woods auto too!!

I used to love watching Goodman when he was in Roseanne some years back!

I'm not into collecting sports cards with the exception being WWF/WWE wrestling cards ....
I've looked at them in passing when I've been searching in seller's ebay shops for other stuff but haven't bought any and don't intend to either! I've noticed that these sets have improved in content over time in line with most of the non-sport card sets and they look really nice to collect as a result.
The only time I could ever envisage breaking this rule was if a Rock auto came up for auction and then it would be pistols at dawn to get it! 
Then again, I might not - he's getting very expensive and very hard to find on the secondary market which is a pity. Ah well ... more money for me to spend on GOFU then ...

What I like so much about the card is it is John Goodman in uniform as Babe Ruth from The Babe.
He did a great job in that movie.

Well I had a pretty huge pull out of a box of baseball cards today, I know Cindy will know this guy.  This is a piece of his custom made baseball bat (the bat it was used in a MLB game) where the names are laser inscribed by the bat makers and it is autographed above #2/3.

Here are a few scans of some recent cards I picked up top notch (some I pulled from boxes the ruth I mentioned before and I bought the Jim Thorpe ((has everyone or anyone else heard of him?) He is considered by many to be the greatest athlete ever King Gustov V of Sweden called him the greatest athlete in the world after the 1912 olympics in Sweden where he won the gold medal in the Pentathalon and Decathalon).  He also was a professional Baseball and professional Football player in the US.  Basically I think this is one of my favorite cards.

Hi Dave, I would love it if we had a sports card section on here I have been collecting sports card for about 6 years as well as non sports for a little longer. You have had some sweet pulls and purchases. I have some micky Mantle jerseys but no really cool autos in baseball. Although I did pick up a Michael Jordan Auto from last years signature tin edition. Get in touch there are not enough of us sports collectors in my opinion.
