Warren's a cool guy - I met him at Memorabilia in November, and had a good look through his binder of sketches, but when I did so I didn't notice this - look at this auction http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=671&item=6168960403&rd=1if you look closely he's signed only with his surname. These days he has one of the most cool signatures and his sketches have become some of the most sought after of all when he sketches in a set. When I met him in Nov I got this sketch - and you can see his full sig on this OK OK I'll go - I've clearly bored you all - but I thought it was interesting

I believe his first *sketch* based trading card set was Marvel Creator's Collection - and there he signed with only his surname as well.. That was back in 1998

Wow 7 years in the biz. I think it probably takes a while to get used to a tiny canvas like a sketchcard He's definitely got the hang of it though - the collector zone have an auction up at the moment (on their own site) including a painted Thunderbirds sketch of his and it blows me away (and I'm not even a t birds fan)

That was back in 1998 Awesome, I found some of his early sketch cards Is this the equivalent of passing around a stack of baby photos to a sketch card artist ??

Hi all, thought I could help clarify the signature question. Yes I just used just "Martineck" on everything up till late 2001. In the middle of the Star Trek TOS 35th Annv set, I came up with the new signature and tried it out on the back of all the Kor/Kahless Sketch cards for that set and have been using it ever since. Although my first comic book work was in 92, my first sketch cards were actually for the Fleer Spiderman 97 set. I only did 25 and I don't even know if they ever made it into the set. I've never seen them and havent heard anyone finding any. So there you go. WM

Fleer actually released a checklist for Spidey 97 and sadly Warren you're not among those listed I can only wonder where those cards are because now I MUST have one!!!

lol - there goes Joanna again - off on an impossible task! Thanks Warren... I'm trying to collect some of your earlier cards at the moment - Women of Voyager in particular but they are few and far between I must admit - now you have given me even older cards to look for

Yeah Michael Scot is the seller. Warren Martineck is the Artist.
Of course there is a line we have to start to draw... when does it become no longer a "sketch" per-se but in fact a card sized piece of work. Mount any of Martineck's painted or indeed coloured sketches on a larger piece of board and pop them in a photo frame and you have yourself a nice piece for your wall... if small - you can imagine all sorts of elderly aunts visiting your home and saying "do you have a magnifying glass dear?"
