The most unusual of rumours surrounding the next James Bond was that for a while, Orlando Bloom's name was coming up to play the part of the super spy in a restart of the franchise. The idea has been scrapped of course in favour of an older actor for "Casino Royale", but now something new has emerged.
Sky Movies reports the British hunk is in serious talks about a series of films based on an idea by a new author about the early life of the MI6 agent. Bloom says "I love the idea, in principle, as he can be far more adventurous and do more stunts. This is as near as I think I will get to playing the grown up James for the next 20 years."
This film series, which Miramax and Dreamworks have both been barracking for already, would be based on a new series of young 007 novels which began this year with 'Silverfin' which has already become a best seller. In the book set in the 1930's, a teenage James Bond spends a holiday at a remote castle where he soon comes upon a mystery involving killer eels and an arms tycoon conducting dangerous genetic experiments.

I'm not going to say a word until I see 'Kingdom of Heaven'... we've never really seen OB in a leading dramatic role before - it will be interesting to see if he carries more than just the fangirl audience with it...

Even for a young James Bond I don't think Orli has the right look/attitude. Too much of a pretty boy. And so far I'm not convinced he can act (not that the role would be that challenging). As for the "older" Bond, rumors have it that Clive Owen is going to take on the part. Now that is good casting IMO  |

By 'unknown Australian' would you mean either Eric Bana or Hugh Jackman? They were both shortlisted for the role and while Bana has ruled it out, Hugh is still interested as far as I know...
Not that you could say either of these two were 'unknowns'!

Eric has been in The Hulk and Troy (and some other ones I don't know the names for). He'd be OK as Bond but not Hugh. the latest on the Clive Own rumors: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=8980it's amazing how much trouble they are having casting the next Bond |

Eric Bana was also excellent in the movie Black Hawk Down which was the true store about the American Rangers and Delta Force Commando's in Somalia. I also liked him in Troy as well. As for Orlando becoming the young James Bond - that sounds interesting. If they are starting him in the 1930's they certainly could develop his character as a Naval officer in World War II as his rank is a Lt. Commander in the Royal Navy when the original Bond series started in the early 1960's. Please keep us posted as to what you hear about the Young James Bond. Thanks.  |

Never heard of the guy, should have went with Bana or Jackman.
Couldn't have seen Law or McGregor as Bond

I could have sort of seen Ewan McGregor, but definitely not Jude Law. I agree - Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana would have been great!  |

this guy? He's rather scary looking to me...and doesn't seem that good looking either. doesn't look like Bond. I would have liked to see Eric get the role, possibly Ewan. And I still think Clive Owen would be fantastic--pity he wasn't interested. hmm. I'm not a huge Bond fan anyway but this casting won't have me rushing out to see the next one. |

The should have made Jennifer Garner the new bond after all this is the 21st century and she is hot, that guy seems to be a little under par in the looks dept, and that is coming from a guy. You have to be able to believe he can pull a bond girl  |

I would have liked it if Pierce Brosnan would have been able to continue to play James Bond Next to Sean Connery I thought he was the best Bond. This new guy just looks a little to unBondish to me I wouldn'tcare to see a female Bond either. I just don't like it when they take a role that is known to be played by a male and transform it into a role to be played by a female instead or vice a versa. A good example of this is the new version of "Battlestar Galactica" on Sci-Fi. |
