I won a sealed box of Cat in the Hat Movie cards tonight.  I tried to pay through PayPal, but the transaction was cancelled with a note that, "The recipient is currently unable to accept money."

I sent the seller an email, and he responded that his account was temporarily suspended for being "$3.98 short."  He said that it should be fine in about four days, or I could mail payment to him.

Should I wait until I can pay with PayPal, or just send him the money?  It's only $9.99 (including shipping), but I wonder if it would be better to wait until his account is reactivated so that I'm covered under PayPal's protection policy.

I reckon that you should wait - I am sure they would understand. It saves you the hassle of sending and waiting for them to receive your mailed payment. Plus, as you said, you are covered under Paypal.

I'd say if I really wanted it I would send the money by mail because it would be intransaction three days before the account is up but if you want to get covered more them wait. Grin

Personally I would wait and use paypal. Unless you pay out extra to send the money insured, the seller 'could' always use the old 'I never recived anything' tatic  Undecided

I had a similar problem with a seller.  He was having major problems with PayPal.  I e-mailed him daily letting him know I attempted to pay him, but was denied.  He finally got the problem resolved - it had taken 5 days.  He was sore at PayPal (understandably), but he was okay with waiting for payment.  I had dealt with him before, so there wasn't a real problem, only inconvevience.

Thanks everyone!  I've decided to wait until his PayPal account is reactivated.  It seems the safest thing to do.

I still haven't been able to pay for the item, because the seller's PayPal account is still suspended.  I've sent him two emails, asking when his account will be reactivated, but he hasn't responded.

I then went to eBay live help and was told that the situation requires "special handling."  I was sent to Safe Harbor to file a complaint.  Now I wait, again...

Although I hate losing a good bargain, I'm definitely glad that I didn't mail payment!

So the seller has not responded to you yet?

I sent him three emails: March 28, April 1 and April 4 (today).  He responded to the first one, saying that his account would be fixed in four days, but he hasn't responded to any email since.
