I was quite disappointed that I got sniped (curse them Tongue) just before an auction ended for a set of LOTR Science Museum portfolios, but soon afterwards I received a second chance offer at my highest bid price which was $20 less than what I was willing to pay. A bargain at $51 AUD ($42 US/20 GBP)  given that I've seen them reach $120 US before!

Anyone else had the benefits of receiving 2nd chance offers? Grin

I've received second chance offers two or three times.  It's a nice and very unexpected surprise!  You got a good deal on your portfolios. Smiley

I've also received second chance offers - 5 of them.  I'm real greatful for them because I would have missed out otherwise. Smiley

Two things always bothered me a bit about them though: 1) You get get to pay less than the winning bidder (that seems unfair to the winning bidder) and 2) You can't leave feedback for the seller because the item number is assigned to the winning bidder.

Yes I got my Grim Fur as a second offer from Chris.

The only thing that bothered me was the same as Anna.  I felt really bad about not leaving feedback as the card was lovely and came super fast.

Is that right? I thought that it sent you a separate auction and therefore you could leave feedback?

That's a real shame!

That's strange, because all of the Second Chance offers I've ever bought items with, I've always been able to leave feedback for the item.
Might it depend on whether the seller has assigned a new auction number (or not) to these Second Chances as to whether you can leave the fb or not?

Perhaps the sellers on the Forum who have used this facility could help us with this one please?

I know what you mean about paying less for items than the winning bidder, but like you Anna .. I would've missed out on some outstanding things too if it weren't for this. Wink

Oh absolutely!
I've only ever bought on Second Chance if it's items I've bid on and lost, never ever on anything sent to me on the off-chance I might like it/want it. Wink

Yep, I've had that happen a couple of times too ... where people have checked to see what I've been outbid on and then write to offer me similar goods.
In the past I have looked at the links they've sent (but not bought the items), but with all these spoof eBay and PayPal emails doing the rounds, then I wouldn't take the risk with them these days.

If in doubt, forward the email STRAIGHTAWAY to ...

spoof@ebay.com (for eBay items)

OR

spoof@paypal.com (for PayPal)

... WITHOUT opening any of the links or entering ANY of your information on the pages if you do decide to look them over.

Stay safe and be wary of what you're sent. Wink

I got offered a 2nd chance on a TT Eomer auto, for a great price, and was able to leave feedback...I only missed out by $5 the first time around, so I didnt pay much less than the winning bidder....

When you receive a legitimate second chance offer from the seller, it appears below the item as a Note with a link in your Items I Didn't Win section of your My eBay page.

Yes it does.
After all, the seller doesn't have to send you this offer unless they want to part with their dupilcate items for a bit less than the highest bid.
I suppose it's cheaper to get rid of multiple items like this because you don't have to pay for the listing fees do you?
Please correct me if I'm wrong in this assumption! Wink
