Selling on ebay

Hi I was just wondering if any of the sellers on here can tell me how it works, I have often wondered and thought about selling my old Red Dwarf mags on there once (I wonder where they are now ). Ebay gets a % of the sale is that right?

Please explain it all to me thanks

Oh yeah, you pay the insertion fee!  There's a final value fee, based on the sale price, and if you take payments through PayPal, they get a cut, too!  You have to keep the fees in mind when you set the opening bid.

Unfortuneatly, yes. Also there are other fees involved, for example, if you want to add more than one picture to your listing (allthough you can get past that by linking from a different host), if you want the listing to have a gallery picture with it and so on. At least Im pretty sure I'm right in what I'm saying, it's been awhile since I sold anything on ebay!

All sounds very confusing, I think maybe this is why I have never done it. Nice to know about though.

Best bet is to start off by selling something you know will bring in quite abit. No use selling something at a starting price of £0.99p and having it won at that price when you've probably spent the same just listing it. Either that or up the postage costs slightly to cover any fees.

You're right, Luluhime.  There's a charge for anything extra you add to your auction to make it stand out.  And, it definitely is not worth listing an item for a pound or a couple of dollars.  All you'll do is cover your fees and not make any profit from the sale.

Splurge on your selling tools if you have something high priced to sell - ypu'll make the most profit then... but don't bother with things like base sets if you only have 1 or 2 to sell - you'd be better off giving them away

So for example in my Legolas auction I have up at the moment - I have used bold for the title, gallery picture, subtitles and extra pictures. Including insertion fees etc, it cost about $6.00 Ebay will take a 5.25% cut of the initial $75 ($3.95) plus 2.75% of the remaining price ($10.00 at the moment).  So far, ebay will take a $20 dollar fee from me. This is in Australian dollars. For me this is worth it as I knew that my item would sell for quite a bit.
