Hope no one minds, I just thought I'd share a few pics from my holiday.  Spent a week in Beechworth, in Northern Victoria (Australia; part of "Ned Kelly Country"), and came home today...


Sunset on the first night, Boxing Day, looking out from our balcony.


From the lookout at Mt Buffalo.


Part of Buffalo, which was badly damaged by bushfires in Janurary 2003.  Many of the walking tracks have warning signs regarding fire damage.  I like this pic, with the charred trunks at the bottom, gradually lightening up towards the top...


Looking down the side of Buffalo from the very top (altitude ~1700m).  These trees are also dead from the fire...


The Woolshed Falls, near where I stayed.  A lot of gold was collected here, when Beechworth was a huge gold-mining town.  Apparently ~$au2 billion of gold was collected from the area over 14 years, based on todays prices!


Sunset on New Years day.  We only had two nice sunsets, and the colours of this one were fantastic.

Anyways, just thought Id share a few of approx 50 photos I took over 7 days. Hope everyone else is enjoying their hols!

Great photos - you should be a professional photographer It looks like a great place - I love going for bushwalks - I'd recommend going to the Blue Mountains west of Sydney of you can - spectacular views and great bushwalking opportunities

I'm sure Kate would not mind taking you to Victoria when you come over!

So when are you booking those tickets Roz?

If you could get every member to visit Vic, Im sure I could take you all!  

I visited the blue mountains last christmas, and they were fantastic also.  It was too hot for bushwalking though, above 40deg.  There are some photos floating around somewhere, but I didnt have a digital camera then, only got it this xmas.

Ive got plenty more photos if anyone wants to see them...

Outstanding photos Blackcat!  Thanks for posting them.  Your photo of the blackened trees reminded me of my first visit to Yellowstone National Park a year after the terrible forest fires there in 1988.  The Lodgepole Pines were totally blackened from bottom to top as oppossed to just half way up in your photos though and it was very dangerous walking through the burned out areas as the trees were falling all the time and several tourists were killed.  

Aren't digital cameras great!!

Not sure if anyone noticed, in the second photo you can see a steep ramp running off the cliff-thats the hang-gliding launching pad.  You would not get me jumping off the side of a mountain

What make/model camera do you have?
And how do you get the backgound blurred and the foreground so crystal clear? (I know nothing about photography!)

The camera is an Olympus C-310 ZOOM.  It has both optical and digital zoom, so I can get really clost to stuff.  

I know nothing about photography either  , I just aim and click the button....though there are some really good modes on the camera, including one for taking self portraits, which make things a little easier...

Woo hoo!

All Olympus models are splash proof... now this may not sound wonderful or waterproof but let's just say my camera survived an astonishing monsoon-like downpour out on an exposed metal tower in the middle of a salt marsh in Essex... I don't think you can ask more from it than that!

Ill keep that in mind- For the middle of summer we seem to be having an awful lot of rain and thunderstorms! Not that we can complain really, we've been in drought for so long...
