You still need a nice break over Christmas if you ask me... isn't there still a Dan Brown book you haven't read?

Hey FTY,

Congrats!!! Good marks and a good effort!! What uni do you go to? In Sydney?? I am at Victoria University in Melbourne.

I got my exam results this week too.... one credit and one distinction.....I am studying part-time (work full-time) and have only 4 subjects to go (1 year) to complete my degree YAY!!!! It makes all the hard work worth it in the end...woo hoo....

There is a small village of only 4,000 people in the UK called Melbourne. I think it means "Mill on the Brook" or something. I know this one was around before the Aus Melbourne, but I somehow find it surprising that such a big place could be named after such a small place, so perhaps it isn't.

Does anyone know Melbourne's (Aus) history - could it possibly be named after this TINY English village?

Melbourne Australia was named after Lord Melbourne.  Perhaps the small villiage you mention also has some connection to his family.

Patrons and those who had favours to bestow where the one's who got things and places named after them.  No doubt in the hope of future favours.   Smiley

Perhaps... I shall find out - he could have been Lord of the Manor back there.... my home village of 3,000 still has a Lord of the Manor Wink I don't think he has a big town in Australia named after his family though  Wink

FTY ... some info for you regarding 'Melbourne' ... the one down the road from me actually and also the one which Roz is referring to! Wink
