Hey Olly:

Were you holding a T-Bone Steak in front of poor ole Max to make him drool like that?   Smiley

I took a photo of my cat Arwen with a huge Santa's hat on her, she does look cute!   Smiley

I guess we all like to dress our pets up for the Holidays!   Smiley

Send it to me Ed and I'll upload it - I will at some point get you a photobucket account so you can share more photos if you'd like but they only take applications at certain times of the day... and they are some American times and it confuses me  Undecided

Thanks Roz for uploading pictures of my sweetheart!   Smiley  Arwen's eyes turn that color when a flash is used.  It is like red eye in people but my Kodak picture software does not have any effect.  It works great with red eye but not Green Hexvision!!  Smiley
Actually she is an alien and that is the real color of her eyes!  Wink

Hey Jules:

Thea is beautiful!!  Smiley  How old is she and how long have you had her?

We adopted Arwen 14 months ago from a local pet shelter.  The Vet thinks she is 5 - 6 years old and she had been declawed by the previous owner so she is an indoor cat especially around here where I live in the mountains of New Hampshire.  Many people in our area have lost their cats to preditors such as coyotes, bobcats, fisher cats, and great horned owls.  It seems every other week there is another story about people losing their pets and warnings to keep pets inside but unfortunately once cats have been outside they want to continue to do so and will try any number of ways to get out.

Arwen must have always been an indoors cat as she is terrified of cars and trucks passing on our road.  We have taken her out onto the porch and it took a long time before she was comfortable but as soon as a vehicle approaches she rockets back into the house.  We have her on a long leash so she is not roaming about freely.  In the summer Arwen would like to be with us while we worked in the garden and it was amazing to watch her explore and see many things I believe for the first time.  We have now 2 cat trees - one by the windows on the South side of the house where she loves to sleep and watch out the windows and another up on our loft.  She loves to be up high and I think she feels safe.  I never had a cat before and I am amazed at how friendly and loving she is always wanting to be with me whether watching TV, being on the computer, or being anywhere in the house for that matter.

I remember when we started looking for a cat - we looked at well over 300 cats at about 5 shelters before Arwen found us.  That's right she found us.  We were walking down the rows of cages when this cat put her paw out to us as we walked by.  The attendant said that this cat had been at the shelter since June and was left unattended in a cat carrier for several days on the shelters steps.  They were closed for several days and the staff found her when they returned to work.  She was scarred as it had rained heavily for the several days she was out there and was afraid of people and did not want to be held.  The staff named her "Rainy" after what she went through.  It was October when we were there.  We asked to see her and the staff were quite apprehensive as she did not take to people but they opened her cage and guess what - she sat in my arms for 45 minutes and did not want to go back in her cage.  All 5 staff members came to see this as they could not believe it.  I knew this cat and I were destined for each other and the rest as they say is history.  She is the most loving pet I have ever had and I consider her part of the family.   I have a better picture of her on her cat tree that I will send to Roz and ask her to post here for you to see.

Thanks for posting Thea's picture!   Smiley

Awwwwww poor Arwen :'(
I consider you both very fortunate to have found each other Ed!  Grin

Thea has a sad history too ...
We were on our way up to to see my parents across town and happened to call at one of the shops which we wouldn't normally bother with. In front of these shops is a grassy area with swings and seats for the local kids and whilst walking back to the car from going into one of the shops, I noticed a group of children huddled around something ... something small ... and black ... and furry. I hadn't been looking for another cat as I had two at home already (both gone now ... sadly :'() ... and I saw this scraggy little bundle of fluff.
I went over to see what the fuss was all about, stroked this tiny kitten and then walked away. A scruffy Irish kid (don't know where she lived or anything) came over and begged me .... yes, begged me to "please take this little kitten as I swear to God the other kids will kill it!" Shocked
She went on to tell me the other kids had been throwing stones and hard mud at her and she knew this little kitten wouldn't survive for very long.
I was horrified and appalled and very angry!
I went over, scooped her up and walked back to the car with her. The three of us continued our journey to my parents and I went inside with her. Phil (my partner) was sent off with Adam (my son, then aged two) to go and buy some kitten food for her! LOL  Wink
My Mum was aghast as she thought I'd brought this kitten for her to keep .. hehehe .... I'd grown up with cats and they hadn't got one then ..... so I sat with her cuddled on my knee where she sat purring her little head off!
Poor little thing was covered in fleas and had worms and at some stage she'd had her tail broken as there's a small 'bump' where it's healed which you can feel. I took her to the vets were she was examined thoroughly and I got everything I needed to get rid of the pests she'd picked up. I also arranged for her to be spayed at a later date, and as all of my cats stayed indoors there wasn't the chance of her getting caught by the local tomcats doing the rounds! LOL

She wasn't old enough really to be away from her mother you could see and to this day she still 'nurses' my t-shirts and jumpers as though she were a kitten.
She was also one very frightened, very timid cat and she's still wary of strangers (she still spits at my sister-in-law who is absolutely potty about ALL animals and can't understand why she can't get near her! Undecided)
She must've survived on fast food which she scavanged from shops near to where I found her and she likes nothing better than to eat chips and fish and spaghetti bolognese sauce (home-made) if I'd let her! LOL Junk food addict! Roll Eyes

So as far as I can tell, she's around nine years old and I've had her since she was tiny ~ she's grown into a lovely little cat. Whilst the other two were alive she was more subdued and I think there was an element of cat-bullying going on ... not much I could do about except leave them to get on with it. Once the oldest cat (Beepie) died last year then she relaxed as she slowly realised that she now has no competition to get attention from the three of us. As a result, she lies across my neck at night like a warm furry scarf, and flops over my arms when I'm trying to type at the computer (that's my excuse for the typos!  Tongue) and is basically ...'Top Cat'!

I'll post pix of my much loved and sadly missed cats for you see Ed ... Phil thinks I'm sad in that I'm always talking to strange cats walking up to school, when I'm up at his parent's house .... anywhere really.
I just don't care ~ I adore cats and always will!  Grin
