Howl's Moving Castle

I'm not sure of how many people heard of this, but it's the latest from Ghibli Studios, and this one is even made by Hayao Miyazaki! It premiered in Japan on November 20th. My host-mother saw it and this is what she had to say (bare in mind she is learning English):

I watched new GIBURI movie,Its movie story is the witch cast a spell on the boy and girl then ethnic's theme in the European Continent ,It scene look like a beautiful  Swiss

I want to see it and I want to see it NOW!

Although to be fair I didn't sleep for 2 nights after watching the "Grave of the Fireflies", so maybe I am not ready yet! If it has the name "grave" in it I am not watching in future

I know it was a realistic depiction of war but it ripped my heart right out and threw it in the nearest volcano. ARGH!

However, this one seems to have a much gentler theme!

When Mark and I were watching "at home on the range" this week, we've noticed how lazy Disney got with their drawn cartoons, there is ABSOLOUTELY NO SIGN of that in Ghibli/Miyazaki films and that is why they are surviving (apparently Home on the Range is the last drawn film disney will do). Ghibli films are just such visual feasts that you can (*almost*) forgive getting your heart ripped right out by them

Yep "Howl's Moving Castle" looks great. It's about a young girl who is put under a curse which makes her into an old woman. It looks like it has all the magic that previous Ghibli movies have had, like Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service. Unfortunately, although it seems like most other places in the world will be seeing it very soon (or have already seen it) with subtitles, us in English speaking teritories will have to wait for Disney to dub it into English. Not that that's a bad thing because the quality of the Disney dubs is very high, but I want to watch it already!

I'm in the same boat as you guys! I wanna see it as soon as possible. I remember seeing the adverts in the Ghibli museum, and it was just like dangling cheese in front of a mouse and not giving it to him. GAH! I do, however, have the CD that I bought before leaving Japan. It's been keeping me at bay.

I haven't even braved watching "Grave of the Fireflies", yet. I know this film will be extremely heavy. Numerous times I thought of renting it and another time almost bought it, but I'm just not ready ... visiting Hiroshima and the Peace Museum was hard.

You've been to the Ghibli Museum? Man I really want to go to that! I've heard you have to book months in advance!

It's true Grave of the Fireflies really is a very heavy movie but just make sure you have something like My Neighbour Totoro on hand to cheer you up afterwards

'Tis true that you have to get your tickets a month in advace at your local Lawson convience store. It truely awesome, but the downside is that it's also really small. You also can't take pictures inside the museum, but the conviently sell postcards with various museum pictures among many, many other things!

Who couldn't smile after watching "My Neighbor Totoro"?
