I asked this question in another thread but why do they have redemption cards at all? Why are the cards not in the box? It seems very hoaky to do this - having to send in a redemption card with the possibility of it being lost in the mail or the same thing happenning to the card they send you! Someone please enlighten me why this is done! Thanks.

You need redemptions because the signers didn't get their cards back in time. It was either that or delay the release of the set.
I would say that you should send them in, just get them insured with delivery confirmation (if you are in the US). That way, youc an track when it gets delivered.
I mean, think about it, you can keep the redemption, but what good is it to you? I would risk it and send it in.

I recently sent in a redemption (though it was for the first set) insured with delivery confirmation and it took a couple weeks for it to come back...I knew that they received it but I was sure biting my fingers till I got the auto in!

Is lost mail that big of a problem that people are giving themselves ulcers worrying about sending off redemption cards? Or is it just the 'gotta have it now' mentality and the waiting factor that makes collectors not like redemptions?
I think they are the solution to a few of the hobbies problems. The only huge detriment and dissappoint for me is buying an older product with redemptions that have expired and pulling one of them.

lol thanks guys - imagine trebling that worry with overseas mail Anyway I've sent off a redemption or two today, I'll let you know if / when I get something back Dewlad (probably the Scottish version of your name ) I think it's just annoying for the collectors with the hassle and worry of mailing, and that the autos will no longer be available after a certain date :'(

Dewlad (probably the Scottish version of your name ) I think it's just annoying for the collectors with the hassle and worry of mailing, and that the autos will no longer be available after a certain date :'( Yeah, and then to hear stories of how the card companies DESTROY the remaining stock after the expiration date or if they lose that particular license. CRINGE! How do I get that job? Card Company Executive: "Here, DewDude, this huge box full of autograph cards signed by major celebrities and costume cards with swatches of screen worn costumes from our favorite movies and TV shows had their redemption cards expire. Run them through the shredder for me, would ya!" Me: "Suuuuuurrrrreeee boss. Um, I just need to take it outside with me while I check out something in my trunk first." Mark

Thanks for the explanation about redemption cards RNS. That is a good one DewDude!! I understand sending the redemption card insured and delivery confirmation on your part but does Artbox do the same when they return the card to you. I bet they do not. So there is the possibility even if you do the right thing on your part to insure its arrival there is no guarantee you will get the card back is there?

When they send it back to you there is no delivery confirmation or insurance. It is just mailed in a plain white envelope. I just got another madam rosmerta back and half the card was sticking out of the sleave when I opened the envelope. How it didn't get damaged I'll never know!

Now there is an example of a horror story happily averted but through no effort by Artbox. I don't collect Harry Potter cards but I do collect LOTR's and am so happy Topps did not have any redemption cards.

Why couldn't artbox or there reps in the USA/UK send reps for collectermania or memerbilla and people be able to redeem the redemptions there? ?

Now that would have been cool - imagine the publicity Artbox would get!! Too bad it takes collectors to come up with some great ideas and not the company itself!
