What did everyone do with the last day of summer?

OK it was hardly the last day of summer today, but if it's warm enough for me to go skating in a tee shirt and it's very sunny I'll call it summer It was rather busy in the parks though so dodging people without annoying them was fun! Not to mention all the lefaf mulch scattered all over the ground made it hard to take a long stride without slipping (I didn't slip over but I did have temporary patches of skating a tad uncontrolledly )

I did get lots of interested smiles looks though, I am not sure whether that was my charming personality ( ), my personalised tee shirt drawn by Mark ( ) or just because I looked like I was having fun on skates!

If that was the last day of summer, I enjoyed it to the full

I worked all day long in my garden. Bushes converted, trees cut and the pond cleaned.

If the sun shines makes the work equal many more for fun

I'm jealous!  It's been cold, windy, cloudy, and on-and-off drizzle or rain for so long, I can't remember the last time I saw the sun!  Well, it's been about a week, but it feels like much longer.  When we finally have a summer-like day, I plan to be outside playing with the kids.

Got my washing dried and then watched Troy on DVD. After seeing Sean Bean in that skirt   had to go and have lie down and now facing a mountain of ironing. Such a glamorous like I lead ...... not.

Great T&F you sound almost ready for Winter... putting your garden to bed always seem an odd thing to do but everything has to be perfect

Sorry to hear about the weather KB, and there was I thinking the British had a exclusive on dull rainy weather

Angels - do like Mark; adjust the height of the ironing board and place it in front of the sofa, put on a dvd you know well... hmm let me think ... what might you know well... ooh I know LOTR ,  press play and proceed with the ironing. You will be just as quick with the ironing and you will not find it so boring

Of course Mark only has 2 rooms in his house to choose from and the kitchen is too small to put the ironing board up in so the lounge/baedroom is his only option

I slept in! Sunday - my only day off, well until I check my emails etc!

Went grocery shopping and now I'm restless and bored!

I went to my uncle's mansion and was constantly reminded of how common i am by the way the act. Had diner round  their on this Huge old fashion and no doubt very expensive table, all the crystal was out (show offs) the diner was embarressing for me. I'd rather have chips, Beans and sausages or Spag Bol, but we had a roast with about 15 plates each plate having different items on them, all being passed around the table. I felt like i was in the wrong place, it's not me and to have my cousin rant about how they want there cleaner and chef back was pretty annoying and reminded me of Draco Malfoy, although my Uncle is nothing like Lucious   All in All it was quite arkward and I'm not sure i like upper class diners

And eat. Eating is essential. If you don't eat people will look at you funny...

Gee Ben that sounded like you had a very uncomfortable time!  Do you know if your relatives have any interest in LOTR's or HP?  If so that would have been a cool topic of interest to talk about around that big dinning room table!  

Here in New Hampshire we have had our first snow on the mountains and it definately feels like late Fall and early Winter with frosts each morning.

No i never bring LOTR up now, they don't like it and actually call me a freak when i mention my trading card hobby in a jokey way but i don't really find it funny   I'l know what to expect if i go again though, thats *IF* I go again

It really sucks that you can't be yourself around these people especially because they are related to you! You know it's really there loss that they're not getting to know the real Ben. It's nice to hear that you came out of it the better person despite what they think of you. Good Luck if you decide to go back.

I have been watching all the colorfull leaves falling, waiting for snow, talking with the family, and oh yeah, doing assignments.

I'm with FTY--what last day of summer?
After over a week of lousy, rainy weather, today was gorgeous. Sunny and warm all day long  
I went for my first run in over a week (running in the rain is not good) and then spent the rest of the day working on an essay and doing misc. other stuff.
I could definitely live with the weather here in Sydney vs. Minnesota.

I lived in Minnesota for the past six years--four years to get my undergraduate degree and then two years working there.
Heard from one of my friends there that the MN winter has begun *shivers*
Despite it being very odd to not have snow during winter, I have to say that the winter here in Sydney is much more to my liking

How long are you going to be in Sydney?  Do you like the snow or are you glad to be no where near the stuff?

I've been in Sydney since mid-July and am here in Australia (though traveling after the end of November) until the end of January. Then I'm off to Wellington until the end of June.
So far I don't miss the cold weather at all--I'm much more of a warm weather person. I think I could do without snow, I really am not missing it (and the weather that goes with it).

I can appreciate that.  Both Minnesota and New Hampshire have long cold Winter's and many people start to become depressed around the January/February time frame because of the very cold weather and snow with no end in sight until late April, early May.  

I love the Winter as I enjoy mountaineering, snowboarding, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.  If you are active the Winter is very enjoyable.  

That being said I also love the warm weather in the Pacific.  I was stationed for 3 years in Hawaii and 2 on Okinawa.  I visited many of the World War II battlesites in the Pacific where my Dad fought as a U.S. Marine.  He and many others were sent to New Zealand to recover from the terrible battle at Guadalcanal in The Solomon Islands.  He contracted Malaria there and the climate in New Zealand helped in his recovery.  He was in Christchurch and Wellington and always spoke how well the New Zealander's treated the Marines and looked after them taking them into their homes.  He arrived there in late 1942 and stayed until his outfit - The Second Marine Division sailed out for the Tarawa Invasion in November 1943.  He returned to New Zealand after that trama and healed and trained for the next assult on Saipan in June of 1944.  He speaks very loveingly in his letters home to his parents of his time spent there.
