I've just noticed I haven't sent in the 10 redemptions I have for OOTP. None are duplicates, they are the 10 that shipped with the cards way back when. The expiry date was July 2008. Don't know what made me think to check this morning but check I did, and heart attack I nearly had.
I hate redemptions. I almost always forget to send them in.
Do you think if I email Artbox (in a grovelling, snivelling, Draco Malfoy way), they will still be able to redeem the cards? Or have I missed the boat? And lost a load of value off my master set in the process...
I've just today sent off the Update set redemptions but they expire on the 15th of this month so hopefully they'll get there in time.
What do you guys reckon? And does anyone know the email address? I'm guessing it's artboxent.com but the site says it's currently under maintenance.

Generally, Artbox will honor redemptions past the expiration date. You should send an e-mail to Kay with a list of the redemptions, but there's no need to grovel or snivel.  Keep in mind that the Moody and Figg autos have still not been returned to Artbox. The company has been mum on what it's going to do if the autos never come in. OK, thanks for the info - email sent. Strange they haven't done all the autos yet but I noticed someone from here only got their Lucius auto last month.

It isn't Artbox's fault that the two actors have refused to return the autos. I'm sure the company has been in frequent contact with WB about it. But now that the release is a year old, it's time for Artbox to come up with a replacement plan. The same thing happened to Strictly Ink with its CSI New York release. Gary Sinise was paid for autos, then refused to sign the cards. SI is producing a replacement set that consists of two foil stamped autos for Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes. Personally, I think this is a poor replacement.

I have had redemptions honoured for POAU, COS, OOTP and the 1st 3D set honoured within the last couple of months. Just send them in asap. As long as they have autos left I'm sure you'll get them.

So what's the deal with redemptions anyway? Do they agree an amount of autos with each actor and then insert the requisite amount of redemption cards? Does the actor sign all the cards in one go or do they do them in dribs and drabs as the redemptions come back? There must be unsold boxes and packs of OOTP that still have redemptions in them. And I daresay boxes and packs could have been damaged or lost (for whatever reason) that contained redemptions.
If they agree 250 autos and only get 199 redemptions back (even 1 year after release), what happens to the rest of the autos? Do they destroy them? Send them back to the actors? Must be hard to get an accurate number of autos out there for any given release. I know we try and keep a tally here but there will be people out there who don't stop by Yakshak that may have autos.
Oh, and I've just got a reply from Artbox saying they will honour the redemptions I have. Didn't mention the two they haven't had back though.

The actor signs a contract with the card manufacturer to sign a specified number of autos for a certain amount of money. If the actor doesn't return the signed cards or returns less than the agreed-upon number, the actor is in violation of the contract. The number of redemptions that Artbox receives back has nothing to do with when or how the actor signs the cards. Generally, the actors return the entire lot of autos at one time. There are redemption cards in sealed boxes, and there are many people who will not mail in the redemption until they know that the autos are available.
Most companies will hold on to the unclaimed autos for a while. Artbox and Inkworks do this (Inkworks still has Ozzy Osbourne autos from a set that was released a few years ago.) Eventually, some will end up sold off to a distributor or big dealer, or released in other ways. Artbox has been putting extra, older autos in the grab bags they sell at SDCC. This could stink if someone pulls a redemption from an older release, but since the expiration has passed, the collector would have no recourse.
Unless a company releases the print run for autos, we can only guess at how many were produced. Jeff estimates the numbers of various autos based on reported box and case breaks.
