Okay, my understanding is if you have a cash balance, and make a payment Paypal will use the cash in your account before charging a credit card.

I have some money in my account and won an eBay auction.  I want to pay using my credit card, not cash; is there a way to make Paypal use the credit card?

Last time I tried that, there wasnt a way that I could find. But that was a while ago. I know you can click a link for using alternative funding source to choose between bank account and credit card...would that work?

You could also transfer the cash in your account to your bank account, then use your credit card.

If you have a paypal balance (cash) there is no way I've found to use bank or credit card in lieu of balance.  You have to have a zero balance (or less cash in your account than the payment is) to use a credit card.

I don't have a bank account attached to Paypal (I don't trust it) and I want to wait for Paypal to send me a check (1.50 fee for each check, I only want one check when I am finished selling).

I sent a question to Paypal to ask if there is a way to pay with credit card with cash in the account and they are suppose to answer in 2 or 3 days.  We will see what they say.

If you can't pay with a credit card while you have cash, I think that is a terrible system.

If I recall correctly, way back in the day they used to let you do what your're asking.  Not anymore.

I haven't tried to see if there are "hidden" options if you have a cash balance, but one thing you can do is to open a separate Personal account and use that just to pay by CC.

I remember once transferring my cash to a second account, paying by CC, then transferring the cash back...that was back when Aussies couldnt put cash into their paypal accounts, so I didnt want to use what was in there if I didnt have to!

Paypal answered and said there is no way to pay with a credit while there is cash in the account.

I won a couple of items today and went through eBay checkout.  On the "confirm your payment" page, I'm given the option of using my PayPal balance or clicking on "more funding options."  This allows me to pay with my PayPal balance or an eCheck from the bank account linked to my PayPal account.  Unfortunately, it doesn't allow for use of a credit card through PayPal.

I wonder if it would allow it if your registered credit card was one that was issued by PayPal.

I guess the only real answer is to have a second PayPal account that doesn't have a cash balance. Probably a Personal account that is used only for paying. But you'd have to avoid using it to accept occasional non-credit, no-fee payments or sweep the cash balance out to a checking account quickly.

I found this info on a PayPal help page:

Question: How can I make a payment without using my PayPal balance?
Answer: You can use an eCheck, the PayPal Plus Credit Card, eBay MasterCard, PayPal Buyer Credit or PayPal Pay Later to make a payment and not use your PayPal balance.

    To send an eCheck:

       1. Click the Send Money tab. If the payment is for an eBay item, click the Pay for eBay Items link.
       2. Enter the required information.
       3. Click Continue.
       4. Click More funding options.
       5. Select the eCheck radio button.
       6. Click Continue.
       7. Review the information and click Send Money.

    To use your PayPal Plus Credit Card, yeBay MasterCard, PayPal Buyer Credit account, or PayPal Pay Later account:

       1. Log in to your PayPal account and click Send Money or select Pay Now from an eBay listing or begin checkout on a merchant's website.
       2. Enter the required information and continue with your payment.
       3. Click Switch Now or select the appropriate PayPal Credit radio button (PayPal Buyer Credit, PayPal Plus Credit Card, eBay MasterCard or PayPal Pay Later).
       4. Make sure all the information is correct and complete the payment.

    Note: You may be able to save PayPal Credit as your preferred funding source for future transactions.
