Has anyone in the UK noticed how it takes about 3-5 days to get things via post from Canada, and yet hope over the border to New Hampshire and you can wait another week on top of that?

Why would the post be so much quicker form Canada to the UK? Is it because they are part of the commonwealth and parcels are less carefully checked? I wouldn't have thought they would be any less carefully examined but I really can't think of any other reason?!!?

Good question Roz, I do not have an answer for you!  The only thing I can think of is processing time.  When I send out a package to you from New Hampshire it has to go through several hubs to get to the main shipping point for overseas packages.  Then I bet Customs looks at the paperwork and who knows how long they take before releasing the package to be sent overseas.

Then your Customs people look at it before releasing it for delivery.  Maybe there are less hubs and people touching packages sent from Canada?

Everyone loves Canada so no one would send a bomb through the mail however, America not so much!

That's my guess.

And anthrax and terrorist threats don't help the speed of the process.   It's like getting on a plane - you have to be there about 3-5 days before your flight leaves.

Can you believe they actually pat down old ladies getting on flight - like they would have a bomb strapped to them.

I've only had one thing sent from Canada - TT legolas (thats the card, not Orlando Bloom ) but quite alot of cards from the US. In my experience, it takes about the same time (one week). And its further to Australia than to the UK. Maybe it has to do with your postal system???

Yea I am sure it is our Postal System.  I just sent off a package this Monday to Mark & Roz and I asked for insurance and tracking.  I got the insurance but no tracking!    The Post Office told me the number that was on my insurance receipt was also the tracking number - yea for the insurance but to not to track the package as I found out when I came home and went onto the Postal web site later that night to start to track the package!  I do not think I could have been more explicit saying that I wanted insurance and the ability to track the package so I can see that it arrived!

Frustrating sometimes!

I think the post office read this, Roz sentm e something on wednesday? got it saturday! I sent something to her on thursday she got it today

Normally from what I see it takes 3-5 days in the US normally 3, to ship anywhere, but over seas once it starts to go it is like a week + I surely blame your customs depts

That was fast turn around on both ends.  Well it is now into the 8th day since I sent my package out to Mark & Roz - maybe you will get it today!  Let's hope soon anyway!

Well the small things postman has just been - I just arrived at the same time as him but I think he has a second delivery with the things the postie doesn't bring on his bike. Mark ran out of mike   so that's why I am here teagirl  

So he may be here later on. Ed it sounds to me like you had to post the parcel by a similar means to the one we posted your birthday parcel, we nearly had kittens that it wouldn't be there in time and it was much slower than the "airsure" that we sent your last christmas parcel and Jas's lithos it's trackable and fast but only takes parcels under 10 ounces  

Thanks for the theoden litho Jas, I shall see what we can get Bernie to do with it - but for the moment Mark is drawing glasses and a french style moustache on it - I hope you like it

We do alot of mailing to the US, Australia, and the UK and it takes 3-5 days....now my point, when we mail within our Country it takes over 2 weeks and costs twice as much, go figure

Lol, Probably!!!!!Thats fine by us though, canadians are a small percentage of our mailing compared to the rest  ;DSo lets hope they don't figure it out that they have it all backwards!

Yes were a full time Trading Cards and Collectibles Business. But also a Hobby, doesn't get much better than that!!!!

Coming from a man who got to fly for a living!

I spend all my spare time these days on skates - it feels like flying sometimes, it's a pretty free feeling, better than a bike etc and can feel effortless, but it's not QUITE like the real thing

That's true Roz!     It is especially exciting when flying at 2.5 times the speed of sound and another favorite is when we are flying fast and low doing contour flying!  The rush has to be experienced to be believed!!

Countour flying? Where you fly low within the folds of the landscape so you can't be seen from afar?

Yea it is but you have to watch out for large birds and obstructions because they can ruin your day!

That sounds amazing actually Ed! Especially in a place like NH where there is some serious topography to tuck yourself in between!

*I would like to point out that flying is JUST the same as skating and yes I have broken the sound barrier several times on skates - and have had to buy new windows for the whole street*



No joking apart - with the loss of concord having flown beyond the speed of sound will soon be EVEN MORE of a rare and precious experience.

Ed do you have any idea why commercial jets have not gone supersonic? Because it used to take 3-4 hours to cross the Atlantic if you had the money and now it's 8-9 again - is that progress?

Roz - it all boils down to money.  It is so much more expensive to fly supersonic than subsonic as all airliners do today.  The cost of fuel is one factor, the design is another, and the environmental concerns are a third.  

We have gone back with the loss of Concorde unfortunately.  It was a beautiful design but very expensive to operate and could not carry very many passengers compared to the wide body airliners hence the huge cost for a ticket which kept 99% of the population off the Concorde.
