Yes, it's trackable and insured, but is tracked by barcode and no signature is obtained on delivery... well I don't think so anyway - the last 2 parcels I sent you - did you have to sign for them?

It's great when Paypal gets it right and the fraudulent buyer/seller gets zilch  I'm nervous as I have a pricey card somewhere between here and the US - its insured but after this fiasco, who knows wether that means anything? I'll definitely be relieved when it arrives! I'm definitely going to keep an eye out on who bids on my auctions in future! |

Nope
The signed for version is like 40p (60-70 cents) cheaper, there's not much in it but I get the impression that the Airsure is a speedier service so I usually use it  |

I'd be interested in the answer as well. US Registered AirMail does diddly as far as tracking & the insurance value is laughable - $44.86 - (though you can purchase a Return Receipt which I've never done)... Global Priority has tracking numbers on it, but they can't be tracked overseas...  The two international shipping options *that I know of* that can be tracked are: Global Express Guaranteed (smallest dimensions to use this service are 12" long x9" wide x1" high ) for a one pound package (less than one pound is rounded up to one pound) is $33.75 for a document & $46.50 for non-document. Global Express Mail for a 5 ounce package is $21.00 AirMail Parcel Post can be insured - the base cost is $16.75 then you pay extra for the insurance amount (starts at $1.95). |

Thus the reason I only ship AirMail & Global Priority Mail, but I'm stuck if it doesn't make it  |

Yah this is the one that cracks me up : Global Priority has tracking numbers on it, but they can't be tracked overseas... Why do they make GLOBAL priority trackable, but then tell you it can't be tracked once it leaves the country? I used to use Global Priority until my packages all started disappearing and all I ever got was "Your package has left JFK Airport at ....." like, ok, so where is it NOW? I have a new postmaster who seems intelligent, so I guess I'll go bug him on Monday to get these out. It's very stressful - and unfortunately, I can never say "Sorry, you're overseas, I'm not shipping to you" *lol* I think I'd have people flying over to take a swing at me  |

I eventually thought to use the USPS website and put the tracking number in there and lo and behold ... my package showed up as having been delivered several days before!!  It was very frustrating and really annoying, but I gather from what my postie has told me in the past, (he's a helpful chap and cheerful with it, bless him!) there is no reciprocal agreement between the UK and the US to get the signatures - there used to be once upon a time but hasn't been for a while now ... so my next question is - what the hell are we paying the extra fees for when there's no compulsion to get these signatures?! I know it's no consolation, but it IS nice to know it's not just the postal service in the UK which is being awkward over this ... |

Yes, it seems to be a problem worldwide - I *never* thought to use the other countries websites to check delivery status though ... I wonder if it works both ways ...

The only problem is that, as Joanna mentioned, the max insurance coverage is $44.86. If it were possible to add more insurance, it would be a good option for those higher value packages. |

I looked at the USPS site about Registered Airmail. This isn't good: Effective January 2006 the addressee is the payee on claims for registered letter-post items delivered in damaged condition or with contents missing, if addressee accepts delivery of the item. If addressee waives their right to payment, in writing, or the item is returned to sender, the sender then is eligible to file a claim.USPS will pay the $44.86 to the recipient and not the sender. Talk about the potential for abuse -- a buyer can file a claim with USPS, then go to PayPal and file a claim against the seller, too. |
