New at collecting

Hi Everyone,
Been lurking on this board for a whole 4 hours now and couldnt resist joining...especially with the impending release of Harry Potter and SS trading cards! 
i'll give you guys a bit if an introduction to who I am. My name is Nicole, I am 17, live in Australia, am a fan of HP and LOTR and these HPSS cards will be my first ever trading cards. I am starting off with 4 hobby boxes worth and the binder. I have a question for all you fellow collectors and I am looking for some plastic sleeves to store my (hopefully) newly acquired autos or costume/prop cards. Can anyone point me in the right direction for what kind of sleeves and screwdowns I would need? Is Ultra Pro or Pro Mold a good brand?

I personally use Ultra Pro Mold Platinum 9 pocket pages for anything I am going to keep in a binder.  Whatever brand I think making sure they are "No PVC or Acid Free" (the ones I use say it on the cover) is the most important thing.  I personally for costume, prop, or autos will often put the card in a penny sleeve as well just to make sure the corners don't get damaged when sliding them in the pockets.

If you are also looking for screwdowns I use Ultra Pro for those also, just be aware of the thickness.  I use 100 or 120 pt thick for my thick memorablia cards (ex. Hermione Sweater).  I think they are as thin as 32 pt and that works great for autos. 

That will be super exciting when you pull a super cool prop variant from SS   I am keeping my fingers crossed for you...of course then you will be hooked and spend an unreasonable amount of money on cards....beware of the addiction.

lol Beckham. Well I wasnt sure if just 4 sealed boxes would be enough but thats all I can afford for now.  the stockists dont sell out before I can buy more.
Ive been doing a few searches for what I need and I found some Ultra Pro and Pro mold screwdowns. But its so hard to tell what the thicknessess of these new cards are going to be. I was trying to get organised and invest in a whole bunch of storage things to keep them safe in but its proving more difficult than I originall thought. or maybe I am just stupid.   
Ive got the pro pockets sorted ready for my regular cards to go into the binder which I suppose counts for something. Beckham if you dont mind me asking what exactly is a penny sleeve? Will I need extra thick sleeves for costume cards and just regulars for autos?
Im sorry guys for all the questions but I want to be prepared.

Penny sleeves are just single plastic sleeves the have an open side at the top.  Usually they come in packages of 100 I think. They are called penny sleeves because they are about $1 for 100 of them

I didn't know before I looked this up on there website, but apparently they do have very thick sleeves for thick cards 

I can't find a pic of the screwdowns I use???  I have never tried the one touch magnetic ones, but  I think a few forum members have.  I would recommend going to a hobby shop if you have one around and check out the selection, then find the different ones you like and find the best price you can.  When I first started collecting I was getting all my supplies at my local shop and they charged like $3 for a ultra pro screwdown 100 pt thick.  I was buying them 5 at a time for $15 total.  Then I found some sites online and I get mine now for $12.50 for a 25 pack of ultra pro 100 pt. (saved about oh...$62.50 on 25.  If you want a cheaper storage device you can get a 10 count snap box.  I have had a few people send me LOTR costume cards in them.  They are about 10 cents a piece.

Which state do you live in? There is a card dealer in Melbourne, prices are a bit higher than buying from overseas, but cheaper than a lot of other local dealers...

If you get some 9 pocket pages and some "penny sleeves" then at least you can protect your cards whilst you wait for the arrival of the right "screwdown" cards

I am from melbourne and there is a hobby shop here as blackcat said, but I find ordering on  to be pretty good too. Sometimes there are even aussie ebay members that sell the 9-pocket pages, pennysleves etc

I got a box of 9-pocket pages for $45 in the city, which I thought was pretty decent. Hopefully you can find someone with a similar price. Its a bit hard to buy these off ebay as the shipping costs are enormous

Thanks for the info guys. I live in Adelaide so getting to the main city shouldnt take longer than 15 minutes. I'll check a couple of local shopping centre's over the weekend as that is where I purchase my Topps 9 sleeve card holders.
I really hope I pull some nice cards but knowing my luck probably wont.

Between the 5 Aussie members that I know of buying SS boxes, at least one of us has got to pull something nice! Trey, blackcat20, mcgonagall and I are splitting a case of SS - it worked out alot cheaper for us than buying seperately - if you want to join us for the GoF set, you are more than welcome to

Soon we'll be splitting a couple of cases between us all!
