What is a full set of 16 autographs worth?

It is nice to have Darren's view on the set

I do have a question for him though I know that in sports cards any additional cards held back for replacement etc. are serial #'d to match the card that they replace.  Like if you sent in a Harry Robe from the first set that was damaged and it was #120/750 wouldn't they stamp the replacement with the same serial # and destroy the damaged card.  I know they do this in sports cards to protect from fake cards in the market.

I think someone on the board said they sent in a damaged card for replacement from Artbox, did they stamp the same #?

Also I am wondering if there is anyone on the board who would spend say:

$1000 for Harry auto
$1000 for Ron auto
$750 for Hermione auto

And lets say $2500 for the triple

Just wondering if anyone would spend that kind of money (I know there are a few who want to complete the master set and will have to, but what if you aren't trying for the master would you?)

Personally I wouldn't...to much money - I would buy some of the auto's from FOTR first.

That is crazy, (if it is someone on the board sorry for calling you clueless).   That is like picking up FOTR complete auto set for $1000.  If anyone knows anyone willing to sell me the complete set of auto's FOTR for $1000 PM me.

I'm pretty sure that Artbox doesn't stamp a serial number on a replacement -- they give you the best card they have available from the run.  I had a slight problem with a swatch on a card, but decided to keep it instead of replace it (mainly because I really liked the image on the swatch).

LOL I think that the 4 main autos could be FOTR merry at it's height sort of proportions to be honest!

Imagine... PoA just produce more and more massive sets. I remember Mike justified the higher print run to me telling me that he wanted everyone to have the chance to get what they wanted from this set... which at the time sounded like a good excuse to make a whole lot of product but it actually looks pretty invalid now. 4 cases later and nothing like a master set of any of the mini sets!!!

I dont need another Hermione auto and i have not enough money for the other 3 cards.

So i try my luck with a few cases and if i did not pull any Top Auto, i do not try to complete my auto master.  

So at my sight i build my auto master with all those cards who are not limited to <75 (with luck eventualy 1 top but hopefully not Hermione again)

 

I could not sleep if i pull a triple auto

One thing I've noticed is that when someone lists the breakdown of a case, it usually looks pretty good.  But on another forum, some people listed what they got from one or two boxes.  Then it finally hit home with me just how hard it's going to be to pull even a few cards that I really want.  The odds are against it, and then I'll have to ante up for those cards, on top of what I've already spent for boxes.  Yep, I can understand Gimli's and Olly's dismay!  And yours, too, Roz!

Ztaylork, I can understand you selling your cases, but the Van Halen tickets, too?  Say it isn't so!  

I had six and two of my friends bailed out on me.  I would never dream of sellin my personal ticket to see Van Halen.

That is exactly what I think Gimli, I don't think most people will be willing to pay what they are probably worth,  which of course will determine there value.

Gimli is one of the few with a master set and he may not even be willing to pay what someone will be asking for them.  SO why would people who don't have a master set shell out the big bucks for a Harry or Ron?

Also on the possibility of Harry auto's only for this set and never again, at one time that is what was being rumored that artbox was not going to use repeat signers in future sets (obviously not the case with another hermione in the update).

And why didn't Artbox include something Peter Pettigrew in this set (auto or costume)?  I haven't read the books, but I am assuming this is his only appearance in the series.?.?

This is no where near the last we will see of him! I won't tell you more than that but he certainly hangs around in the next book - integral to the plot I'd say, but not quite so much in OOTP .... you'll see!!

Much more apt to watch the movies than read the books.  I am still only half way through reading the FOTR and it has been 6 months since I started on that book.  So obviously I am not a big reader.

In fairness although Tolkien is a great writer he doesn't write very readable books. The world he creates is marvellous but tough to get through for the first time. After that you fall in love with it

The Potter books are better written, not better books but better written

Sorry I just couldn't let this sit there without disagreeing.  Tolkien is a master story teller, perhaps not a great writer -  great writers win the Booker Prizes and they are definately not very readable.  

Harry Potter is written for children and teens,  from that point of view they are extremely easy to read for adults.

Tolkien wrote an amazing tale, with depth, background, believability.  I never found it hard to read.  Hard to put down - YES!  Too Short  -  YES YES YES!    But not very readable -  not in my universe  :-)

Well they arrived today, all 16 of them (the dealer overnighted them to me)  The ron autgraph is a great one, the one that I pulled out of the packs wasn't near as nice as this one.  It feels great to hold a triple autograph in one hand and the Harry in the other (not to mention the whomping willow card that I held on my head )  I am glad that I bought the set, I was a little (very very very little) apprehensive about forking over $2500 for the set.  I knew it was a good deal, but still it was hard (the real fight came with my wife )  I am excited to see a triple autograph land on ebay to see what it goes for, hoping that whoever lists it starts it low and lets the market determine the price.  Thanks for all your support in this purchase.  I will try and get some scans done so they can be posted.   As soon as my costume set arrives I will be getting closer to a master set, although in the end I never end up keeping a master set, as I had 2 (minus a peartree for one) of the first set, and all I have left to show is a run of the autographs and costumes.  Catch and release, just like my grandpa always tought me.
