Hi Jason:

Yea I saw this one on Sideshow's site and for some reason I just cannot get excited about it.  Now their new Weathertop environment is a whole different story and I do like that one!   Smiley

The Weathertop one does look very nice indeed, but I am hanging out for Legolas and Gimli on Arod Wink I didn't really like either of the Legolas/Gimli single statues Undecided

Hi FTY:

I liked the Gimli one but I thought the Legolas statue was not done very well at all.  You still see them for the issue price so I do not think it sold too well.  I also think Sideshow's pricing and number of pieces made is way out of line in many cases.  The last Environment of Minas Morgul was a rip off for $75 plus shipping.  The darn thing is so small and they made a major error in not making enough.  I think the $300 pricetag on the Gandalf, Aragorn, and Legolas/Gimli pieces are way too much.    And they have the nerve to take pre-orders on the Legolas/Gimli and Aragon pieces without showing you what the finished product looks like.  Sure you can cancel but I personally do not like this tactic.

I agree 100% there! Why would you start taking orders on something that you can't show your customers? I personally think it's a stupid policy and I am not going to pre-order even with the cancellation option. I also think the  $350 price tag (for Legolas and Gimli) is too high and I figure that I can pick one up on Ebay. But then again, its hard to tell without actually seeing what it looks like! With the Sauron figure, it looked awesome and people could tell that it would sell fast. But with something like this... who knows? Undecided

Do Weta pieces (in general) go for more or less on Ebay than ordering via Sideshow upon initial release?

Thats all they made in TT, thats just how it is done, it is an exclusive for the DVD holders thats the way it is, 75 bucks for it? when you pay 75-80 for minas tirith and the dvd isnt bad. and it sells for $300!!

Which gandalf is $300? I dont recall a gandalf starting out at 300. Or do you mean gandalf on shadowfax? also 300 isnt not a bad price tag on these. Look at stone trolls, the big Balrog, Ringwraith on steed, they are all HUGE items and they have all started out at or near $300. ALl the riders are expensive, think of detail on a character AND a steed. These pieces are also HUGE 2-3 times bigger then a statue by far, and worth the price put on it. Heck Look at the treebeard bust $300 from sideshow right? this is BIGGER then any single statue that sells for 100, 150. it is a little smaller then Gandafax but the detail on it is amazing.

Sauron sold out before he was released, look at it. You can cancel sure it doesnt hurt you or them in anyway to order and cancel. They release it becaue of the impatient people that collect these things, to let you know whats coming, to give you an idea. And because when these were released for pre order they were done with one pre production piece and needed to make changes.

they are all going to be great pieces and $300-350 for them is worth it when you see size of these things.

Smeagol bust = 1 pop can, RWOS leg is the size of the can. the things are huge and heavy, it isnt like they are releasing a small statue for a super hige price.

Trust me I felt the same way about things right? I went to ORC I saw EVERY piece sideshow had made on display and simply amazing, when you see them you think wow thats only 125? or wow thats 300? you can tell the difference Tongue

I wouldnt bet the farm on it, some pieces you can get on ebay for less. like gandafax legolas, but this one dealers were limited to only a couple ( 12?) instead of the 50-100 that they got before so they sold out fast and with a limit of 2 on these you prob wont see them on ebay for less. but thats just the thoughts on that SS wants the money and to keep these at retail.

Depends on the piece, Gandafax yes, some others no. You can get them from a SS dealer for a little less then SS but on ebay? doubt it they would normally go for more, figure they have to break even and make money on it.

If you want some pieces I would look into a dealer to save some money or chance ebay.. but most pieces unless you are talking like legolas which was overmade, cavetroll bust which is on the rise but overmade (10000) you will see that the good pieces go for alot more.

Depends what you want and what you want to pay ^!^

Thought I'd chip in here.....

Gandalfax is certainly cheaper than retail on ebay right now. The only thing stopping me buying one is a lack of funds  Huh Huh It's a fabulous piece and if I had the money, I'd have bought from SS.

There's no problem at all with pre- ordering through SS and then cancelling before the item ships. There's no penalty, and they deffo have no problem selling the stock to another collector.

On the subject of price fluctuation, I cancelled my pre-orders for Golden Hall and Haradrim statue. Both are worth considerably less than the retail price right now. Why? because they got bad press & peeps don't want 'em. I saw the Hardrim the other day, and was not sorry I cancelled. No way is that worth $125. I'd buy a Golden Hall really cheap, but there's no rush.

Take a look at the Morgul Lord, goes for less than retail now. I bought fom SS, and it's fabulous!! A beautiful piece, and I have no regrets on spending $300 on it. I have Aragorn at the Black Gates on pre-order, and there's no way I'm gonna cancel.... I'll never own the Aragorn statue, so I'm quite happy to settle for Elessar (which is fabulous) and the mounted Aragorn when it arrives.

It's all swings and roundabouts, prices on the secondary market are bound to vary. I'm very lucky to have Arms of The Fellowship 1 & the Gandalf the White bust, which cost me a pittance on ebay before the prices went bonkers. In 12 months time, they may be worth a lot less.

If you like it........... BUY, If you don't like it, DON'T!!!

It's that easy lololols

Just out of interest, please could you tell me how much the shipping is going to be on that? (assuming you live in the UK that is).  Smiley

*Really want it, if it's going to be anywhere near as good as Gandalf on Shadowfax but I'll probably not be able to afford it.* Sad

Hi Fragile Soul,

If I remember correctly, my Morgul Lord was shipped for US$21.45, which is the standard SS UK shipping rate via Parcelforce. Aragorn @ Black Gates should be the same!!

You should remember that you'll be charged VAT @ 17.5% on the total order, if you go direct to Sideshow. If you buy on ebay, shipping will probably be a great deal more, but you won't get charged VAT & duty until UK Customs get their mitts on the package (assuming you buy from outside EU).

Total from SS is therefore ($300 + $ 21.45) + 17.5% at whatever rate they use on day of shipping.

Hope this helps.
