1  General Stuff / Ebay and Paypal quibbles/problems / Re: Concern over seller (s) on: April 22, 2008, 06:53:08 AM
Dear Rich T and anyone else who is ripped off online:

I just recently experienced my first online ripoff, a US bookseller.  It was a very expensive reference book.  I was gobsmacked when the item didn't arrive and then they didn't answer my emails.  One of my roommates, an ex IT girl, ran a check on them and it was BAD.  Then she pointed out that in the states you could get a call back by the credit card company.  I found out that in Australia, you can also do that.  I should imagine that it is worldwide with all major credit card companies.  You have to wait thirty days, then you report the non-arrival and all the details of what you paid for and Visa (in this case) just went straight back into their account, withdrew the payment and I got it back in full.

My point being that if credit card companies have the lawful right to do this with defaulting online transactions then so would eBay.  I think you should try and take this further with eBay.  They have full access to our bank accounts, I would think they have the legal right to do the same as the credit card companies.    And to the best of my knowledge the Australian Federal Police take internet fraud very seriously.

My bad experience with the bookseller has made me more cautious not xenophobic.

If other shackers would be prepared to do the same I think if we all wrote to  Ebay!  asking why they do not offer the same protection coverage as credit card companies it might have more impact.  What do you think?

Nice card rns!   Smiley

I have a question about the memos.  Does anyone know what the pale blue capital letters printed on the memos says?  I have one of the prop cards but I can't make out what it says and I have not seen a swatch with any blue printing on it.

Also is there a site where I could get a good look at a memo prop and the daily prophet that includes rns' swatch?

Thanks

Wow what a lovely card!!  It is on a par with the Dark Arts one with the face in the middle of the swatch.
I am sure lots of us will watch this closely on  Ebay! Kindli.

Good luck!!   Smiley
4  General Stuff / Ebay and Paypal quibbles/problems / Re: major changes to eBay fees and feedback on: February 02, 2008, 06:50:14 PM
Well phooey!!

I am reading this right aren't I when I come to the conclusion that the price hikes could increase the price of single card sales!!!   :'(

As a collector who cannot afford to buy one case let alone more, I have to be lucky in my bidding to fill in what blanks I can and now it looks like my occasional *Wow what a great buy* experience could be a thing of the past.  I can count on two fingers the times I have paid over $100 for a card   Embarrassed

And cutting out negative comments.   SHEESH!!  I have never yet given a negative report but I sure as heck take notice of them when I am searching eBay for purchases   Hopping Mad

I cannot believe there has been a strong public request for the current feedback system to be changed....  and if there has  I reckon it would have to be from those who consistantly get poor feedback because who else would care!!

It is a pleasure doing business with you  Cool

6  Harry Potter / Order of the Phoenix Update Set / Re: OOTPU card list and box/case breakdowns on: January 19, 2008, 12:35:52 PM
Just for the records..  winks at allender   Wink  I hereby present the contents of my 3 boxes (a move up from 2):

Box 2139
BT1, R2, R5x2, R7, R9
C11 (118/625) Lucius Malfoy's Robe
P3 (343/505) Daily Prophet
CFC3 (005/260) Neville in school uniform (film: distorted voldemort)

Box 4559
BT3, R3, R6x2, R7, R9
C13 (398/475)
Mad-eye Moody Redemption Auto

Box 5116
BT1, R1, R2, R3, R4, R8
C3 (016/475)
Arabella Figg Redemption Auto

Nothing spectacular, but not too shabby so I was pleased  Cool  Sad to say but this is the best result I have had since my first POA boxes.

I was a bit concerned about the doubling up of the chase cards and as I opened them in numerical order over a couple of days I was getting concerned that I wasn't going to get all nine,  but I did  Smiley  yay!

Am not surprised to read either about the poor allocation of the cards, my last box short changed me two 132's and only gave me two 18's extra.

Hi,  Thought this an interesting card that sold last night:

It was 002/280  which in itself is enought to make it desirable to some,  but the seller claimed the 'Daily' was part of the paper's title.  Surely the printing is to small for it to be part of the masthead??

Nice card nonetheless.  Btw it sold for $59.00   Cool

9  Harry Potter / Order of the Phoenix Update Set / Re: Redemption FAQ on: January 17, 2008, 02:15:40 PM
I sent off two a couple of months ago and assumed they would be sent back protected.

Naive?  Yeppers..  but they sent them back by first class airmail,  the cards were in the lil soft plastic sleeves stuck to a sheet and wrapped in several sheets of paper, folded flat into a long envelope.  They arrived in perfect condition for 90c postage!!   Cool

But in retrospect I like the idea of hard protective sleeves and a self-addressed envelope.

Good luck.

Ooooh  I just saw the scan of Tom Felton's auto..   Praying  Please cosmic muffin I have almost always been pretty good!

It will prolly be the middle of January afore I get my boxes  Undecided    But my Mom has been really generous this xmas and as well as getting me some excellent SS cards which I won't get until January she has bought me an OOP box so in a couple of days we get to open that!!   Grin

Actually she is really tinny (lucky) so I might let her open most of the packets.

I hope everyone has a beaut xmas and your boxes give you great joy as well as some brilliant cards.   Smiley
11  Harry Potter / Order of the Phoenix Set / Re: Show me your Quibbler cards! on: December 14, 2007, 01:05:52 PM
At last!  One with the title in the swatch.  Brilliant.

Thanks sfmuggle, its a good one for my picture collection.   Seen nice props go for way more.  I can understand it.  Didn't know you had a limit sfmuggle  Wink

When I log in to eBay I hit international but there seem to be a lot of sales that never show.  And when I try and get into the US eBay it fights me like anything.  The system keeps reverting me to eBayAus   Hopping Mad

Keep watching and logging em  Smiley

Another thing to add to my want list..  it is soooo long

I have finished the Dark is Rising.  I enjoyed it mostly.  It started to flag a little in the middle but then she introduced Bran and it picked up again.  I really liked him.  But something about the last book left me not quite satisfied.  I can't put my finger on it ..  I think perhaps because as an adult the ending seemed pretty transparent although I am not sure.  On the whole tho' I think it was beaut and thank you for bringing it to my attention.   Smiley
15  Harry Potter / The Leaky Cauldron / Re: Prop Replicas on: December 01, 2007, 05:04:21 PM
Thanks Kevin,

I think you must get HUGE satisfaction out of your props and you can see we certainly do   Cool

The red bits huh?  It looks like you nearly have it nailed.

16  Harry Potter / The Leaky Cauldron / Re: Prop Replicas on: November 30, 2007, 01:51:37 PM
I just love your DP Kevin.  It is amazing that you could put it all together.  I was telling my husband about your prop replicas and he asked me if it was all okay with Warner Bros.  I told him there were quite a few people round the world doing replicas but do you know what the situation is?  I am just curious.

Also I was wondering if it is possible to get a copy of that front page so it is readable?  I would like to read it.   Smiley

You and me both sfmuggle  Smiley  I believe that every set had a separate retail foil lot of 9 but I have only recently seen the deatheater foils..  they are nice looking cards.

Would anyone in the YakShack be able to show us pics of what retail sets are out there?

And I am wondering why they aren't illustrated in the price guide.  Is it because they aren't from hobby boxes?

19  Trading cards / Events Section / Re: Manchester November Collectormania 2007 on: November 23, 2007, 04:34:04 PM

Was it good? huh? huh?  Did you get lots of goodies?
20  Harry Potter / Order of the Phoenix Set / Re: OOTP scans and comments on: November 22, 2007, 01:28:09 PM
