Well all I have to say is I hope that all sketches are of this kind of quality as then this set will be truly Masterpieces  Grin

i hope so too... i worry about the artists doing more than 250 or the the ones in for 1000 or the xxxs. did they have more time than the 3 weeks given? will they use the same style as in evolution? will we get helmets and canoes again?

I have seen them...you have NOTHING to worry about!

thanks for the reassurance!! cant wait to see the regular sketches i might pull, not the awesome ones as i have the worst luck however, i can always hope!

oops forgot to provide the info:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 13, 2006 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today the development of The Lord of the Rings™, The White Council™, an all-new role playing game (RPG) for the XBrick 360™ video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and PC. The game, inspired by the New Line Cinema feature film trilogy that grossed more than $3 billion, will feature an original storyline derived from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels under an agreement with EA. The game is scheduled to ship in late 2007.

“Our extremely talented and dedicated team is committed to creating an incredible new experience for fans of The Lord of the Rings and role playing gamers,” said Steve Gray, executive producer, The Lord of the Rings, The White Council. “With its next generation gameplay and epic new storyline, we think The Lord of the Rings, The White Council will be a huge success.”

Players have the freedom to explore the open world of Tolkien’s Middle-earth™ in The Lord of the Rings, The White Council. Players can choose their role as a man, an elf, a dwarf, or a hobbit. Each role’s destiny is to become a hero allied with the White Council, whose members include the famed characters Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond.

A combination of stunning graphics and expansive environments, along with the freedom of movement demonstrates the innovation and quality of the next-generation RPG, where players can create their own adventures.

The Lord of the Rings, The White Council has not yet been rated by PEGI or USK. For more information about the game, please visit: www.whitecouncil.ea.com. For information about all of EA’s games, please visit EA’s press site at www.info.ea.com.

8  Lord of the Rings / The Prancing Pony / Re: Lord of the Rings Masterpieces info! on: June 28, 2006, 12:25:12 AM

hmmm, i didnt think about it that way.  with a 36 pack box, the odds are less than evolution and at a higher box price.

the sketches will have to be worth it then, otherwise, it might be cheaper to get the evolution artists finish their sketches and purchase new artist's masterpieces off ebay...

then again, its about the chase isnt it...

12  Lord of the Rings / The Prancing Pony / Re: Going, going, gone..... on: April 29, 2006, 06:14:38 AM
Do you think laminating them is a way to protect the colors?  Grin
ermmmmmm NO!! Unless you want to risk ruining the cards .... Undecided

but it does protect the colors, right? ROFL! ROFL!

honestly, i dont even think laminating them will protect colors. only the dark will...with specialized (museum quality) lighting for selective viewing!!

13  Lord of the Rings / The Prancing Pony / Re: Going, going, gone..... on: April 29, 2006, 05:22:42 AM

how will you display them?

ed

I have no idea yet.

i wonder how light affects these sketches as we had questioned with the autos with their UV coating. these dont have that.  would the colors fade too?

looks to me like LOTR but from the Second Age-
its got mountains and orcs and trolls and a Rohan kingdom and  Dwarrowdelf under construction lookalike, is that the Necromancer's tower?

and  its a next generation role playing game...opinions?

its from EA games...

here's the website:

looks like this working title has now been changed to the above title.

16  Lord of the Rings / Mount Doom / Re: LOTR Evolution Bilbo by Staggs on: April 16, 2006, 05:00:36 AM
I have to verify this by looking at my stuff at home, but the ones I'm pretty sure I'm missing are:
F:
*Chung (prefer Eowyn or Eomer)
*Duursenna
*Hernandez
Busch
Eliopoulos
*Lilly
*Moore

E:
Erwert
*Ramos
*De Liz
*Rabbitte

D:
Norton (not an orc)

I prefer good guys over bad guys and am too particular about if I like a sketch or LOVE a sketch.  The names starrred are the ones I seem to be having the hardest time finding.  I may even decide to keep the Bilbo, but I'd really like to fill some of these holes...

I also really like Sohn, Walks, and Mitchell & wouldn't mind some duplicates there...
i might be able to help you getting rid of that bilbo.
you'll have pm soon.

disappoointing costume cards apart from gimli. i expected a gandalf the grey card not 2 more white ones. perhaps we get arwen's ed night gown. what other costume of eowyn is there? and more travel cloaks of the hobbits? how about vests or shirts? sigh...good thing is as a completists, these will come really cheap.

i will agree with Ed (savage) on this one... some sketch cards are too cartoony- dont care too much about them. the others are beautifully done. stained glass cards are ok but if the main characters photo is sl out of focus (see legolas), then it ruins it. would love better photos. i like the uncommon and rare cards.

Ed SciFi- when do you need to know about prepaid preorders? plan to get some...when will we get news on the costume cards?

ed
19  Lord of the Rings / The Prancing Pony / Re: LOTR Evolution on: December 07, 2005, 09:19:14 AM
With 47 sketch card artists it sounds like they are going to try to make a crap load of this product, which should be easy if only sketches are in the hobby version.  So 47 artists lets say they did 250 sketches each=11,750 sketches (8 box cases ((assuming)) that would be almost 1,500 cases of LOTR Ev hobby.  That is a lot of product.  maybe I am way off, just a fun guess.  250 sketches per artist probably isn't a ton Undecided

Actually, many of the low tier (Randy Martinez, etc) artists do 500 sketches.  However, many of the upper tier artists do 100 or less typically with previous sets having sketches with only a couple of dozen by an artist.  The sell sheet for this one has some sample sketches.  Half of them will appeal to all LotR fans, the other half are more charactures and might not be very popular with most fans.

They also say they are shooting for 1 sketch per box, however if pre-orders don't hold up to expectations Topps has been known to reduced the odds.  This happened for both LotR Trilogy Chrome and Batman Animated.

The stained glass cards are printed on clear acetate stock, so the background colors are transparent.  Rittenhouse has done several chase sets of these as have other manufacturers.  They make white backed pages that make them look much nicer in a binder.  If anybody needs some of those when the time comes, just let me know.  I stock them.

Ed

great info! thanks for sharing them! was wondering though about how many diferent costume cards there would be... also any news on pricing per box or per case?

thanks.
20  Lord of the Rings / The Prancing Pony / Re: Miranda Otto... on: November 11, 2005, 11:01:22 PM
wow!! how many items can you get signed per actor/actress? i'm assuming that will be controlled because of the line but if you purchase the gold tickets are you limited with one or two pics/lithos for signing?

thanks for the info.
