1  Harry Potter / The Leaky Cauldron / Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2; Christmas Release on: December 14, 2011, 11:25:30 AM
Depends...

IF their license really runs out December 31st, they could still push something out.

More likely is that they still have the license and there is no rush to get it out at this point.  Late December and January are about the same, nobody has spare money since they just spent on Christmas.

And since they print overseas, this time of year the ports are busy as well as shipping is slow.  Might not have made it in time.

Some sort of official word would be nice though.  But we all know how well Artbox communicates.

2  Harry Potter / The Leaky Cauldron / Re: Deathly Hallows Part 2 scans/comments on: August 30, 2011, 10:22:44 AM
Just noticed something looking at the scan...

The Winner cards expire January 1, 2012.  Don't the redemptions usually have a 'live' period longer than 4.5 months???

Four things have me thinking HP is done and over for Arbox:
  • Redemptions expire 1/1/2012
  • Nothing new at SDCC, just cleaning house from earlier shows
    • Prop and Costume set coming out at Christmas, just before the end of the year.
    • No redemptions other than the winner cards in DH2

I was skeptical, but the circumstantial evidence is pretty convincing.

Here's a link to a WINNER card (Not mine.):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARRY-POTTER-DEATHLY-HALLOWS-2-WINNER-Card-/150655957787?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2313cb7b1b

It's for a Hobby Box of HP7. Is that a DH1 box?  If so, why would anyone pay this amount when they are on ebay now for much less and then have to redeem it to boot?

Crazy, most definitely.  Barrington is probably trying to find those collectors trying to find different redemption cards to collect and not redeem.  The card itself may indeed be worth more than the prize to some collectors.

4  Harry Potter / The Leaky Cauldron / Re: HP Deathly Hallows Part 2 Set on: August 18, 2011, 10:15:11 AM
I went onto my ebay and saw that my 2 boxes of this were sent out by the seller on the 15th does this mean the release date is the 15th or that there just aloud be sent out before then?

As a dealer, I'm allowed to ship orders as long as they don't arrive before the 19th.

That's why dealers get theirs earlier, some earlier than others.  Part of mine didn't arrive until late afternoon and one straggler won't be here until the 19th.

5  Harry Potter / Goblet of Fire Trading Cards from Artbox / Re: Robert Pattinson auto auction **WOW** on: August 12, 2011, 11:42:37 AM
Ending price is all well and good.  Getting paid is better.

I find it hard to believe the sale will be completed, but stranger things have happened.

6  Harry Potter / The Leaky Cauldron / Re: HP Deathly Hallows Part 2 Set on: July 13, 2011, 10:49:43 AM
New Release Date:  August 3rd

Orders now Due July 22nd.

They noted "conflicts with production" but I also have to wonder if this is to give more time for pre-sales.  I'm betting orders were light and they needed time to boost them.  But that's purely an educated guess.

Nice card! Glad to see Artbox helped you out. That was VERY nice of them. Since they do not guarantee any inserts per box, they didn't have to send you anything. Even if they did, one card would have been enough. They went above and beyond. Good for you and them!

If they had emailed me first to tell me they were sending 3 i would have told them one was enough as i dont feel it was their fault that the box was dud and another i was thinking was how did they have extra cards? do they keep some themselves or did they like a open a box or something?  Huh

If I remember correctly, Jeff Allender ran the numbers and it was roughly 1/3 of the cards produced never go into the boxes.  That's a LOT of extras.

But, look how many autos Inkworks had built up, so it's not just Artbox.  Those extras will find the public eventually whether out the back door or in SDCC Goodie Bags.

9  Harry Potter / Prisoner of Azkaban Artbox Update set / Re: Possible Emma Watson Fakes. . . Thoughts? on: January 27, 2011, 12:44:26 PM
I was just taking a good look at the photo of the card.  The grading from Beckett is only for the condition of the card.  It does not authenticate the signature.  However, I think the grading is what is misleading people into thinking that the auto is real.

Not exactly.  They gave the autograph a grade of 10.  If they thought it was a forgery they would have refused to grade it.

And, the grading on the card means they didn't catch that it was a fake too.  A friend pointed out that the surface is graded a 6, and according to them that is the hardest part of a card to forge unless you know the exact paper stock used in the original.

Again, if they suspect a card is not legit it does not get slabbed.  They send it back with a note on why they cannot grade it.  This happens all the time with vintage cards where someone trims off a minute part of an edge to make perfect corners.

Basically, Beckett was fooled on this one.

According to Jeff Allender's site, there are 3 cuts:
  • Alec Guiness
  • Peter Cushing
  • George Lucas

I don't troll eBay looking for them, but I don't recall ever hearing that any were found.

Likely if found by a collector they just went into the Personal Collection, never to be heard from again.

I hope it's not a terrible disappoinment, Allentown is nothing like San Diego.   I'll be very interested to see how you think it compares to shows in the UK.

I'm missing this one.  The dates are the same as the Motor City Comic Con in Detroit which historically has been a much better show for me.   They get 30,000+ in the door over 3 days compared to less than a thousand for the Philly show.

12  Trading cards / Trading card sets / Re: Redemption cards for Indiana Jones series on: December 19, 2010, 06:47:34 AM
Honestly, I don't recall any redemptions in either one of these.  Topps does not do redemptions very often in non-sports.

Jeff Allender's checklist site: http://www.nslists.com/jachlist.htm  does not list any of the autos from either set as redemptions either.

Best of luck, they are both a tough auto set to near-complete (can't really count the autos there are only 8 of...).

13  Harry Potter / Diagon Alley / World of HP 3D 25 Case Incentive Ends Sunday on: November 13, 2010, 02:49:05 PM
Up for grabs is a Daily Prophet prop card from the World of Harry Potter in 3D Series 1.  It is number Ci4 and serial numbered 32/56.

I know the swatch is aggravatingly plain, but it's STILL a 25 case incentive card and the starting price is a steal. Shocked

14  Harry Potter / Heroes & Villains / Re: Deathy Hallows Trading Card Set on: October 20, 2010, 10:40:37 AM
There will be a set.  I called Artbox a little while ago and spoke to someone (not Kay) who said he's working on the set right now.  They expect it to be released around the end of November.

This is getting just plain silly...

Saw a trailer on TV today and realized it is exactly a month until the movie arrives in US theaters.

Artbox has not given dealers even a smidgen of information about the set.  We can all assume what the price will be from previous sets, but give us some idea of when and what we can expect.

The fact that these are the lifeblood of Artbox's product line and that they almost always sell out has seemed to make Artbox complacent.

From a dealer's standpoint, I haven't budgeted for a set that I've not been told about.  And might skip this one entirely.

15  Trading cards / Card Trading section / Re: Anyone seen this x-files card HELP pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee on: August 02, 2010, 12:46:32 PM
Nope, not the same card as the Connections case loader.  Just checked my stock, the card title is the same but the image is not.

Without knowing which set this card is from, it's all guesswork at this point.

16  Harry Potter / Heroes & Villains / Re: HP Heroes & Villains comments and scans thread on: July 13, 2010, 12:09:41 PM
It's becoming clear that there is really a 54 card base set with 18 clear cards that might as well be chase cards.

Sellers are going to have to get more for the 'complete' base set, or start selling 54 card sets.

I wouldn't mind so much if Artbox had just said it was a 54 card base set, an 18 card clear card set, and a 9 card rare set.  With the prices of boxes these days, it's pretty much an expectation that you'll get a base set in a box.

But, the cards look nice.  Artbox has never had much of a problem there.

for any one who is interested, 8 of the autographs are redemptions. the only autographs in the cases are lupin, quirrell and tom (the barkeep from PoA).

But don't you dare complain about it.  Evil

27% are in the boxes, and that's good enough.  Roll Eyes

Sorry, couldn't resist.  Lips Sealed

18  Harry Potter / Heroes & Villains / Re: Harry Potter Heroes and Villains Set on: July 09, 2010, 03:50:25 AM
There IS a "movie deadline" as you put it. The next Potter film comes out in November, and they want to give collectors enough time between sets. I'm sorry but I am so sick and tired of people complaining about the same crap every single release. With Potter, it is redemptions, with Upper Deck, Topps it is sticker autos. Complaining on a forum and clutting up these threads with the same whining every single release isn't going to fix things. If you don't like redemptions, DON'T BUY THE PRODUCT. Artbox has a pretty flawless customer service record, and with the exception of ONE bad apple (the gleeson auto) they have had no problem redeeming every single redemption that goes into their products. So what if you have to wait to get an autograph? Do you know something about your date of expiration that makes you so eager to get a piece of cardboard signed by the actor in your hands upon release? Jeeze, give it a rest. At least the designs are always top notch giving the signers plenty of room, and the signatures are all ON CARD.

Do you know WHY there are redemptions? Because Artbox prints almost all of the cards in a set at ONE TIME. They print the base, the inserts, the autos, the costumes the props all at once more than likely to save a lot of fees with their printers. If that is what it takes to keep a good company afloat and keep producing quality, appealing sets then Artbox, keep issuing redemptions, because I know you are good for it.

Geez, lighten up a bit.

Artbox has never worried about sets too close together before, so that arguement is just silly.

As for the "Don't like it, don't buy it" line, unfortuantely Artbox does not tell you if or how many redemptions there will be at the time you order your product, so how can I make an informed decision?

And while I have no insight into how Artbox does it, I'm betting the auto cards are printed in advance of all the others.  It's quite possible they might have been printed with the last set even.  But I imagine they printed them first and then print the redemptions if needed when they print the main set.

19  Harry Potter / Heroes & Villains / Re: Harry Potter Heroes and Villains Set on: July 05, 2010, 12:28:44 PM
Will Artbox never learn?  Huh

There are AT LEAST 2 redemption autographs in this set; Dobby and Ginny.   Hopping Mad

There was no deadline, like a movie release.  So why not wait and release it when you have them in hand?

Oh well, I guess I was expecting too much from them.

20  Harry Potter / Heroes & Villains / Re: Harry Potter Heroes and Villains Set on: July 05, 2010, 12:20:01 PM
a few on ebay really early sucks !!!! Since release date is july 12th
not mine of course

In the seller's defense, Artbox does not communicate the release dates very well, if at all.  I've not officially been told not to sell until July 12th, I've just seen it posted online that it is the release date.

If Artbox does not tell you, it's not really your fault for selling them early.

Topps has actually printed the release date on boxes before, and occasionally has a sticker on the box with "do not sell until...".  Then there is no excuse.
