Just received my copy of the Live Aid DVD, which no doubt over the next few days will bring back many memories.

Shame that Led Zeppelin refused permission to include their set in Philadelphia though. They thought it was such an appalling performance, they never want it to see the light of day again. I can remember the set vividly, I still have it on VHS, and I thought it was pretty good all things considered ! Oh well.

I'm dreading the 2004 version in a few weeks  ::)

Some observations from Disc 1:

The producers have done one heck of a job cleaning up the sound. Excellent work.

There really couldn't have been any other way to open, than with Rockin' All Over The World.
Bob Geldof's 10-second pause after singing "And the lesson today is, How To Die" - powerful.
My memory served me well....Adam Ant was total %^&*  :D
I had forgotten how good Vienna by Ultravox was.
Did I really wear these clothes ?....Lots of BIG trousers, BIG shirts & BIG hair from Spandau Ballet, Nik Kershaw & Howard Jones !

Bryan Ferry singing 'Slave To Love' with Dave Gilmour on lead guitar !
U2 - Wow !!!! Only 2 songs but with a sensational version of 'Bad'. Don't forget, at this stage of their career The Unforgettable Fire album had only been released 9 months earlier and The Joshua Tree was still 2 years away. You can see they were destined for great things.

Overall, I have to say that so far, this has turned out a lot better than I expected. Or remembered !

Now you've found that frightening Smeagol head we should all pop round and sample your home cinema on the way back from Cards Inc :P

The head has been nicely affixed, thanks to the help of a model-making friend of mine.

As much as I would welcome hordes of card-collecting, Harry Potter loonies  :P, my small abode just wouldn't be able to cope.

A local pub is always good though.  ;D

Yes, I got quite a shock one day when I found it staring up at me. It had been hiding under a throw on an armchair and given the fact I'm a bloke, my hoovering technique had managed to miss it previously  ::)

I haven't reached Queen yet, they are on Disc 2. I do agree though, for a 20 minute set they proved what a great live act they were. Freddie had the ability to hold a 70,000 crowd in the palm of his hand, an incredible showman.

I saw Queen in the US back in 1977.  It was truly the best concert I've ever seen, and I've been to a lot of shows.
