: Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Elle_driver September 29, 2004, 06:38:36 AM I was reading on another message board that discusses movie props/wardrobe and they really do not like potter cards because alot of the people were in high anticipation of getting things from PoA such as one guy wanted a chocolate frog box and got all mad when he learned it was on a card out of 86worldwide, and another guy after seeing these outfits on display was actually told they were to be cut and placed onto trading cards, and he was MAD, but i guess it's better for us to have bits of the outfits rather than some person who owns the whole thing in some display in some home who knows where :)
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : kbmum September 29, 2004, 06:56:54 AM Maybe they're angry because they don't have any items to sell. Someone was selling HP chase cards on eBay, and wrote in the description that he couldn't understand why people would pay a fortune for a small piece of a prop or costume on a trading card rather than buy the whole prop.
IMHO, part of the answer is that there are many fake props on eBay and elsewhere, and certificates of authenticiity mean nothing (anyone with a computer, printer, and some good paper stock can produce a certificate). At least with cards produced by the big manufacturers who have contracts with the movie studios, you're basically guaranteed they're authentic. If they weren't, the card company's reputation would be ruined and collectors wouldn't take the chance on subsequent releases. Elle, can you please post a link to that board? : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Elle_driver September 29, 2004, 07:16:22 AM sure thing,

Also if they were anything worthwhile, the cost would be so high.....
The total amount of props within Azkaban is alot more than what has been "carded" by Artbox. : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Morningangel-Iola February 23, 2005, 04:59:03 AM Well its tough really if they don't like (as you say I'm sure there is other stuff). Actually I do remember seeing a set that had a crystal ball and frog box which I think where orginals the price certainly was.
There is no way on this planet that I could afford any of the costumes but having a tiny piece makes me happy, therefore there are 100s-1000s (dpending on what it is) of people happy rather than just a few ;D : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : EmmasOneandOnly February 23, 2005, 07:55:48 AM I dont hate that they tore them up to make the cards. With the cards everyone has a chance to get one sooner or later.
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : bulliesmate February 23, 2005, 08:46:04 PM i agree, i think its far better to make movie cards, lots of people can afford them and own a little piece of the magic rather than one wealthy peorson getting the whole lot!! only the greedy would want the whole thing and not allow to share with other fans!!
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : EmmasOneandOnly February 23, 2005, 08:49:51 PM I agree ,
Besides, these cards are just like having the real deal. And its less of a problem to protect the whole outfit or prop from dust and stuff that could ruin it or mess it up. With a card its compact and can be sat anywhere for display : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Roz February 23, 2005, 08:53:58 PM i agree, i think its far better to make movie cards, lots of people can afford them and own a little piece of the magic rather than one wealthy peorson getting the whole lot!! only the greedy would want the whole thing and not allow to share with other fans!! Exactly - and we are guaranteeed authenticity - unlike buying full props when they could easily be replicas passed off as originals : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : rns91294 February 24, 2005, 03:57:53 AM I agree. Knowing they are authentic is a wonderful feeling, and they are easier to display. If I had the actual costume or prop from all the cards I had, I would have them stored somewhere safe and no one would see them. With the cards, they are out for everyone to see and are a wonderful conversation piece.
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : SrisonS March 05, 2005, 10:17:38 PM I love the fact that they are in cards. I always like going to certain restaurants and stores that have movie memorabilia and autographed stuff; and just wish I could own something that was actually used in a popular movie. But now with these cards, I actually own a little bit of something. And yes, they are easier to display too.
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : hvnsntluv March 09, 2005, 08:02:36 AM Yeah but what if you have the actual Chocolate frog box from the movie.... wouldn't that be worth something? These cards are soooo in demand.... i can't believe it. I'm new at collecting prop cards so you all know. I'm still in shock.
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : ferdinand_the_yak March 09, 2005, 11:09:09 AM I agree... and unlike the LOTR costumes that PJ has tucked away, the HP ones that we have seen in the cards are simple pieces of clothing (jumpers, cloaks etc) so I don't feel bad that they have been cut up!
If you did that to Arwen's requiem dress or Galadriel's Lothlorien dress for example... :'( - they are so intricate and such works of art - anyone who has been to see them up close in the LOTR Exhibitions will know EXACTLY what I mean! : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : hvnsntluv March 09, 2005, 12:04:34 PM How much would a real chocolate frog card and box prop be worth though? If someone actually had one..... is there a market for that?
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : ferdinand_the_yak March 09, 2005, 12:09:47 PM If you really had a real prop, I am sure that it would be worth quite a bit!
BUT only if you could prove beyond a doubt that it was definitely authentic... there have been too many con artists who have set out to fleece fans with thier fake memorabilia, that people have become alot more wary of what they are buying. Unless you have a really naive/stupid buyer with more money than brains, which also helps ;D : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : hvnsntluv March 09, 2005, 12:40:43 PM It's the real deal.... :o It's from the 1st film.
I believe there are cons out there but they're not that good..... especially for someone as avid as a fan as I am. I could be fooled though but its pretty hard to do that. (http://hvnsntluv.com/cholatebox1.jpg) : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Anna March 09, 2005, 12:45:28 PM Ooooooh! That's really a cool prop! ;D
It sure looks real to me! (Not that I'm an expert ::) ) : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : mcgonagall March 09, 2005, 01:06:47 PM wow that is so so so so so so so so cool :o :o :o
make note to self must use time turner to go back in time and sneak some props of the set of harry potter : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : hvnsntluv March 09, 2005, 01:16:29 PM LOL wouldn't that be awesome if it was possible! I got lucky with some props. I didn't get it on ebay btw...... these were personally given to me. I had to do some begging too. And at the time, prop collecting wasn't that popular (i think) If I could use the time turner..... i'd take buckbeak and put him in my living room ;D
Anyways, I had a friend who had to return a HUGE prop cause it was reported stolen..... he didn't have a choice. He got caught with it cause the seller didn't send him a Proof of authenticity, so he asked the studio to confirm it.... LOL The person that stole it worked (past tense) in the set/studio! Needless to say...... they asked him to give it back waaaaahh :'( : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Anna March 09, 2005, 01:19:39 PM Needless to say...... they asked him to give it back waaaaahh :'( Was your friend able to get his money back? : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : hvnsntluv March 09, 2005, 01:21:37 PM Oh he did..... most definitely. I think he alerted authorities. I think the guy was punished too. When you pay with a credit card, usually if you file for fraud, they take care of it.
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : mcgonagall March 09, 2005, 01:30:35 PM if i could have any prop at al i would want hagrids umbrella
or mcgonagalls wand : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : hvnsntluv March 09, 2005, 01:35:14 PM thats different..... Hagrid's umbrella. I think besides big ol Binkie.... I would want one of the Gryffindor beds with the whole velvet curtain and covers. :D I'd make my own Harry Potter room!
: Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Anna March 09, 2005, 01:52:59 PM if i could have any prop at al i would want hagrids umbrella or mcgonagalls wand I knew these would be the two props mcgonagall would covet! ;) : Re:Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : mcgonagall March 09, 2005, 02:17:21 PM lol i wonder how you would have known that anna lol
Mind you everyone had better watch out for there cards if there is even any hagrid or mcgonagall costume prop or auto cards. mine mine mine lmao ;D ;D ;D ;D : Re: Movie Prop collectors really do hate potter prop/costume cards : Taichi January 26, 2006, 11:08:10 AM First post (I don't have any good cards yet, forgive me)
at first I was jacked that they did this, but now, not so much..... you realize that 'wardrobe' had SEVERAL of each costume, for each actor, even if they produced 1000 of each costume card, the swatches are so small, that they'd likely only 'destroy' one of the props.... there are still several 'intact' examples, that the big-money people can fight over..... granted, in the stories, there's only ONE Sorceror's stone, but chances are, the studios created six or more.............just in case it got lost, or stolen, or broken....... I'm sure, that if they didn't have another pink sweatshirt, that they wouldn't divide the only one up, considering that there are museums devoted to displaying wardrobe pieces...... think of how many 'authentic' pairs of ruby slippers there are.....seems like a new one surfaces every ten years or so..... tho, a neat thing would be uber-rare redemption cards, for full-props........nothing too rare, maybe some papers or a poster or something..... |
