A bit silly, I know BUT - a question ;)

My faculty is hosting a speakers conference night next week and the student club is doing refreshments, which includes a cheese selection. A nice selection, mind you, not just cheddar and crackers and unfortunately, I do not know much about about cheeses. can anyone suggest a few nice ones that would go well with crackers, fruit and chardonnay - or some nice ones full stop? They don't have to complement the wine/fruit - if they don't, I will get rid of the wine myself ;D

hi! for soft creamy cheeses, you will not go wrong with brie and camembert. you would have the swiss and cheddar but you should also have colby jack and if you are a little adventurous, jalapeno jack cheese.

that should round up your basic cheeses which will go with either white or red wine.

not a connosieur yet but love gourmet.

A subject where a Brit can excel (any Frogs around here to question that?
None? Good! Well let a RosBeef get on with it then!).

My personal favourites, Wensleydale with Cranberries! Hmmm crumbly cheese
with red bits in - should be nice - plain and mild - perfect with a cracker
or so our spiritual cheesy leaders Wallace and Gromit would tell you! A
good brie, left out in the warm air for an hour or two - so that it's soft
in the middle is dellllicious... camembert is a tad stronger and tastes like socks 80% of the time :P just kidding but it is stronger!

Port Salut is a great cheese a creamy shiney/rubbery looking cheese encased in a thin orange wax layer... sadly it's french - as is delice de deux - sort of a brie and definitely one of my personal favourites.

... and steer clear of Oz chardonnay it's awful

Actually I believe that if you lie about something it does come true... if it's bad at least! Well in my experience it has happened. So everyone I got a Hermione auto in a box I am buying soon off ebay (let's see if it works the other way around).

Thanks for the help with the cheese guys, the conference was tonight and it went perfectly and the cheeses you suggested were great - though I did not manage to get the second French cheese you mentioned Roz. Everyone complimented the selection :) Have new favourite cheese - King Island double brie. Absolutely delicious :D

On way to becoming a cheese connossieur - go me!
