I'm so jealous!

Do let us know what exclusives they're gonna have if you can!

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bogleg July 16, 2009, 04:46:36 PM
As soon as I purchase the bag, I'll post here. If anyone doesn't recognise me at the Con, I'll be the one that looks as though I'm carrying my worldly possessions around  ::)

Good grief, that's a piece of luggage, not a goody bag! ;)  I have the Artbox tote bag from two or three years ago and it's held up through many trips. :)  I'm looking forward to finding out what's in the bag, so then we'll know if people who are selling on eBay are including all of the items.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

Looks like UPS will be getting my custom again  :o

That's definitely no goody bag!!.
It looks bigger than anything i even use to on holiday with!..LOL!.

I am extremely jealous Boggy. So jealous in fact, that i may turn into your avatar! ;D

Looks like UPS will be getting my custom again  :o

If you were willing to pitch base cards and the like, you don't think you could pack all of the good stuff in a carry-on?  However many of the Artbox travel bags you get could probably be folded and fit into one of the bags, which could be checked with the rest of your luggage.  Even if your airline charges for checked bags, that would probably be cheaper than shipping via UPS.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: terryweasley July 16, 2009, 11:23:03 PM
I just hope that big bag isn't a come on.  You know you buy a bottle of medicine and the bottle looks so big.  Then you open it and you have to look carefully to find the medicine.  Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first time Artbox has advertised a goody bag on their website?  You know the old saying.  Good things come in small packages.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bogleg July 16, 2009, 11:54:05 PM
Last years goodie bag was a backpack and was advertised.

The package I sent home in '07 weighed 36lbs  :o Although pricey, it was well worth sending via UPS rather than struggle through. I put comfort above a hernia

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

If Bogleg does not beat me to it, I will post what is in the bag as well. I will definitely be going after one each day!

Three Card Quidditch Stand Material Prop Set (Only available in Goody Bag)
Oversized 4 Card Prop/Costume Set
Oversized Crystal Card Set of 2
Normal Sized Crystal Card set of 4

There is also a SUPER RARE prop card available in the goody bags, there are only 6 of these per day, so only 30 total, not sure what it is, but I will let you guys know tomorrow when I find out.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: jfer21 July 23, 2009, 11:54:08 AM
If I remember correctly, it is a prop card with one of the "Potter Stinks" badges.  A friend of someone behind me in line got one.  I saw one of the table that had part of Potter in it.  One nice loose card I got was a Sheets/Sleeping Bag from MM2 but my sleeping bag has stars on it.  I haven't seen one like that.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 July 23, 2009, 12:32:44 PM
So that is what it was, I saw it from the distance, but I never asked to see it up close.

Yeah, the master set of MM2 that they are going to Auction off has a stars version as well, I had never seen a stars version of the sleeping bag until tonight....crazy that two show up.

: tammguid July 23, 2009, 01:37:38 PM
That's the 2 case incentive, I've only seen 3 so far, one sold on ebay for 84 pound something and there's one on ebay now for 60 pounds and i have one in my collection, so i suppose it's quite rare

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: kbmum July 23, 2009, 04:59:31 PM
There have been quite a few of the variant sleeping bags on eBay.  I've seen some sell in the $20-range, depending on how much of the star is showing.

By the way, thanks to Bryan and jfer for the card info! :D

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: stoney July 23, 2009, 07:16:12 PM
Many thanks for the exclusives info guys!.
I particularly like the Three Card Quidditch Stand Material Prop Set. I like anything that has the Hogwart's Houses on.
I also liked the House Ties SDCC Exclusive from the other year. I keep meaning to eventually get a set of those. ;D

Will any of this year's Goody Bags containing all the exclusives shortly appear on Ebay do you think as i might keep a look out?.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 July 23, 2009, 08:06:13 PM
I might list one soon, if you are interested just PM me. For the record, the goody bag contains:

Two Binders - One SDCC Exclusive HPB, and another random one
One Hobby or Retail Box
The Three Card Prop Set
A Combination of Three Auto/Costume/Prop/Filmcards (with the autograph possibly being the Lynch oversize)
Also the bag contained a Star Wars Magnet

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: kbmum July 23, 2009, 08:14:02 PM
There's a big difference between hobby and retail boxes.  I wouldn't be happy to buy a good bag and pull a retail box when there isn't anything extra in the bag to make up for it.  Bryan, do you have an approximate size for the duffel bag?

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: stoney July 23, 2009, 10:30:28 PM
Thanks for the offer Bryan. ;D
I will have to decline though i'm afraid as i have just realised looking at ebay that i have also got to buy the Exclusive Dumbledore bust and what with just buying the HBP case i am rather poor at the moment :'( and will have to limit myself to the amount of HP items i am buying.
As i collect all the HP busts, Dumbledore will have to come first. ;D

I just want to make clear that I'm peeved at Artbox for inserting the cheaper retail boxes into the goody bags. :)  I have nothing against Bryan selling a goody bag.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

Some people didn't even get a retail box. Instead, there was a sealed GOF tin  >:(

How much are the goody bags?

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

$80  ::)
The entrance for all days including preview night is going up to $100.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: audr3yk July 24, 2009, 09:43:55 AM
How much is the normal size crystal card set?
I'm hoping someone's willing to split the set up on eBay.  I need to stop dreaming .:P

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 July 24, 2009, 10:00:43 AM
I have a Dumbledore Bust for sale as well :P

Yeah, but for $80 getting two binders (one exclusive) an autograph (possibly the Luna exclusive) a prop/filmcard, a costume card, AND the three card prop set it isn't that bad whether you get a retail or hobby box.

I still feel like I got more than my moneys worth with everything minus the box. For the record, my two bags containted 1 hobby and 1 retail.

Wait till you guys hear this.

Sunday there will be a 6 Card set being auctioned off. Each card contains the ENTIRE Letter patch from Goblet of Fire....what letter patches from GOF?

How about
P O T T E R from the back of his costume from the second task.

I will try to take a photo of it later. Apparantly last night, they auctioned off a 4 card set of Cedrics entire Hogwarts Patch from his GOF outfit.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Tower July 25, 2009, 02:36:27 AM
Wow!  :o

But i'm not sure, if i really like this.  :-\

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 July 25, 2009, 02:45:24 AM
Well the way I see it, Artbox could have cut up the letters and put them in the cards, that would seem pretty dull to me. They also could have included 6 1/1's in the packs, but then only one person would ever be able to make a master set. I like what they do, the cards do not look like GOF, they have their own design, so you cannot call them part of any set, therefore NOT having them does not affect the term "master set"

I am going to try my hardest to win the Potter Hogwarts patch tonight, I hope it does not go extremely high. If I win it, I promise to get some iPhone photos up of it right away.

Also, if anyone is interested in either of the Crystal card sets, or the 4 card Metal set, PM me and let me know and I will get you a price...I have not seen any pop up on Ebay yet. I also have two of the four card costume/prop sets left as well.

I love the potter stinks cards.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 July 25, 2009, 05:18:31 AM
Not sure of the exact amount, but I head it was well over $1000.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: allender July 25, 2009, 05:32:41 AM
I agree with Bryan about whether some of these items should be mentioned in the same context as a "master set."

There's a history of a card company issuing cards on one license that are associated with a card release, and separately issuing cards for a different distribution. Several companies made cards that were inserted in action figures, and those cards kept the same design as the regular card sets, but are judged to be separate. I would argue that the Felton auto from SDCC08 and this year's Lynch auto aren't part of the HBP set.

That doesn't mean they aren't part of a "Harry Potter Master Set." But I have a separate category for SDCC exclusives unless they are specifically promos for the release of a large set. The "Potter Stinks" prop is marked for GOF, but that's the movie. It's not part of the GOF set, GOF Update, Memorable Moments 1 or 2, or World in 3-D 1 or 2. The full patches are special items that Artbox created for Warner Bros.

Oh, and I saw all of the special cards on eBay before I posted above, except for the printing plate set. That's where I got the numbers and titles. Images weren't sharp enough for me to speculate on what's shown on the crystal and metal cards.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

I have just spoken to Boggy and he thought the four card set was a bit larger than normal - the same size as the Death Eater exclusives.  He said the 6 card POTTER set is normal trading card size and absolutely gorgeous.  But to be fair he is having such a good time he may have got it muddled.  He said he would try and post a sneaky picture if he is allowed.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 July 26, 2009, 08:44:30 AM
Nope...the Hogwarts patch cards are normal card sized, and the patch is just into 4 equal pieces.

However, I have some cool news (sort of) they auctioned off NINE Rivet costume pieces from Harrys Goblet of Fire costume and I was lucky enough to win one. These are numbered to 9 on the back, and they were auctioned off in three sets of three. Going to go take a picture and post it for you all to see. :)

Sorry for the quality, the only thing I can use is my iPhone right now

FANTASTIC STUFF

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: allender August 02, 2009, 05:41:42 AM
I just received the package with the 4-crystal card set I won on the 'bay. Impressive presentation!  It's in a 12" x 8-3/4" album with the crystals inserted tightly into 1/2-inch "hard" foam. The outer album is black with gold lettering, in a heavy plastic ribbed slipcase.

I also won auctions for the padded binder, Lynch autograph, Quidditch Stand prop set of 3, Costume Prop set of 4, and Metal card set of 4. Almost like being there!

(Not only that, this week I picked off Hermione's Trousers C8 from GOF and Shopping List from TSS [variant with letters] this week, together with HBP's Ci4 and Maggie Smith auto.)

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

I have been keeping an eye on what prices the SDCC specials are going for.

P.O.T.T.E.R (auctioned as 1 lot of 6 cards)

'P' - $2499.99

EYELETS (auctioned as 3 lots of 3 cards)

1 - $1595.05
4 - $1500
6 - $1600
8 - $1999.99

POTTER STINKS (6 per day random in goodie bag as a redemption card - no extra cost)

2   - $760.01
3   - $610
6   - $650
9   - $625
14  - $600
17  - $590
19  - $1000
24  - $600
26  - $575
28  - $538.33
31  - $638.35
33  - $515

Apart from the eyelet cards of which I would have only kept 1 of the 3 (why would you want more?) the rest seem to be there for people to fund their trip. Why else would they get rid of such great cards?

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bryanjs14 August 03, 2009, 07:05:54 PM
Other than the letter T currently still on Ebay all of the Potter letters have found wonderful homes.

Also almost all of the eyelet cards have been sold to collectors as well.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bogleg August 04, 2009, 05:01:48 AM
All the cards would have gone to wonderful homes if collectors had got them instead of speculators and it would have been a lot easier on the pocket.

All the cards would have gone to wonderful homes if collectors had got them instead of speculators and it would have been a lot easier on the pocket.

Well that is not really a possibility. Even if they had been put in the bags there is still a great chance that "speculators" would have gotten them, since "speculators" bought the bags just like everyone else. or if they were part of a release, then COLLECTORS would complain that a master set is a near impossibility, and "speculators" still open a ton of cases, so chances are they would have ended up with some as well.

As it stands, all the cards but one left have gone to wonderful homes, and the good thing about the set is collectors can choose if they want them in their collection since they have no affiliation with any set, and NOT having them does not change what a master set it. If these were pack inserted into a release, the prices paid for them on Ebay so far would look like chump change because there are more than 6 Potter master set collectors out there, myself included, and things would have gotten really really ugly.

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives
: Bogleg August 04, 2009, 07:32:17 PM
15 of the auction cards ended up as speculator cards. The P.O.T.T.E.R cards, I was told by the eventual winner of the auction the day before, would stay as a set. I thought he was bidding on behalf of someone as he was on the phone all the time. As you, Tom and others ended up with them, this was clearly a bare faced lie. I stood no chance but I guess, as you all watched the auction but didn't bid, you all knew that.

I dont think Graham was implying that cards be randomly assorted in goody bags or in boxes/cases. I think he was just noting that if speculators/flippers/what-have-you werent bidding on the auctions for profit, a lot of collectors would have left the con happy with a quite more affordable prop card set. Of course I know there is no way to monitor or regulate who gets the cards, as that would be unfair and discriminatory, and anyone should have the fair right to dish out money as they so desire, but its still easy on the mind to even dream that there would be a day where a collector has a chance at getting one of these auctioned cards directly from the supplier and not from the aftermarket at profit-hungy prices.

And even if these cards were randomly assorted, it still gives a better chance at getting the card at much more affordable price, because with the way things are in the aftermarket, 99% of collectors, financially, have no chance whatsoever to own these cards anyway.

Another suggestion for future sets (if they decide to do them again), would be to set a flat price and have a raffle to purchase. Its fair and gives a chance to the collector. Either way, I still love seeing the cards, I think its great that Artbox gives us the chance, and it no way discourages hope of one day owning something so great.

I was lucky enough to win #11 at comic con.  ;D  It will forever stay in my care.

Has anyone seen the Cedric patch that they had at comic con? It was the patch of all 4 houses from Gof. It was cut into 4 pieces and sold apparently to one buyer.  ::) I saw one on ebay for a crazy ammount.

Watch the completed listings on ebay, i didn't notice since today that already 3 of 4 are sold. Hufflepuff (03/04) for about $2100  8) and after that there were BINs for Ravenclaw (02/04) and Slytherin (04/04) for about $2400.  ::)

: Re: San Diego Artbox Exclusives

It will be interesting to see if anyone bids.  Sure, the four Harry cards together sold for $2200, but someone might be willing to pay the seller $2600 or more for the Hufflepuff part of the patch.  Based on the prices of all the SDCC cards, I wouldn't be surprised if people bid even higher on the auctions next year.

Why are people so up in arms about this?

If you want to spend the money to fly to san diego, get a hotel for 5 nights, pay for admission, and then bid on the stuff artbox sells there feel free to.

It isn't a secret they do this, they have done auctions for the last couple years. Spend the money. It is a dice roll. He could have paid for those cards and then there be NO market for it. he got lucky, got them cheap, and is reselling them for a profit. There is nothing wrong with what he is doing. Am I ticked because I didn't bid more on them myself and maybe I could be the one standing to make a lot of money? Yep, I sure am, but there is nothing I can do about it now, I'll just bring more money to next years comic con.

Yes, and that would have been really a shame.  :'(

Artbox's auctions had very rare, very limited cards, which were sold as sets (Harry Hogwarts patch, Cedric Hogwarts patch, Potter letters).  When you get right down to it, what's better -- having one truly dedicated collector own all four or six cards from a set, keeping them a set as produced, or having a separate owner for each card, thereby allowing more people to own something special?  There are pros and cons for both.  It's a difficult question for an HP collector, because this is the first time we've ever encountered such truly rare cards.  Not even the lowest numbered pack-pulled card or case incentive from any of the sets is as limited as the cards Artbox auctioned at SDCC.

I think there would be less controversy if Artbox had separately auctioned each card or had inserted the cards in packs.  Maybe Artbox should have put info about the cards and auctions on its website (insert your own Artbox website comment here) to give people a head's up as to what was coming and give them time to make plans to try to win the sets.

As for the prices sellers have been asking and receiving for these cards, Bryan does have a point.  Anyone who went to SDCC paid a lot of money to be there, on top of whatever he or she may have paid to win an auction.  Plus, there are the laws of supply and demand.  If there are enough people interested in a particular card to warrant a $2500 price tag for the resale of that card, the auction winner made a good investment, can pay off trip expenses, and make money in the process.  As someone who usually has running an eBay auction or two, I would be absolutely thrilled if one of my cards sold for four to fix times more than what I paid to buy it.  On the other hand, it sucks that I'll never be able to afford a card like that.  But, that's the way it goes.

I am not trying to be a jerk or anything, I am just saying. I spent my money to fly there, I spent a TON on a hotel (which I obviously could have spent much less, but I like the connivence of being close to the convention center), I bought my admission, and I even missed some panels I really did not want to miss to bid on and get the artbox exclusives.

I was very lucky to get a couple for myself, and the resale of them helped pay off more than half of my total expenses for the trip, which was a great surprise.

Anyone can bid on them. I passed on the patch cards up for sale now because I personally thought they were not worth as much as they are now selling for, am i pissed that I obviously could have made a good amount of money off them if I had pressed my bid higher? Sure, but it isn't the end of the world. At least they are being made available for sale. No one is FORCING anyone to buy them, and no one FORCED the seller to sell them, both are doing it under free will.

I dont blame anyone for selling those cards, I don't care if the buyer told me they were for a collection or not, it was obviously a lie, but who knows, the person they were bought for may come onto hard times. you never know, even if they sold purely for profit at that kind of money honestly who wouldn't? I love collecting, and I have a couple potter master sets, but at SOME point it just becomes a piece of cardboard with a piece of fabric in it.

I truly hope something is done about these auctions in the future.  They have always caused problems and the way they have played out this year has proved things need to change.

I don't have any thoughts one way or another about splitting sets but I do have many thoughts about one dealer buying all of the cards.  If push comes to shove I would rather Artbox auctioned the cards directly on Ebay, giving anyone a chance to bid, even if they are the top bidder only briefly.

Everyone who goes to the show spends out a lot of money - this is their choice.  Bogleg had to pay for an airfare from the UK, a hotel and entrance to the show.  Just for information he collected many, many things (some free, some that were cheap) for other collectors in the UK.  He did not sell any of these items, he didn't even ask for postage on some of the smaller items.  He did this because he knows other people are not as fortunate in being able get to the show.  Bogleg goes to San Diego to see the show, not in the expectation of making a profit (or paying his expenses).

Maybe that is the difference between a collector and a dealer.

I go to the show to enjoy all the panels and pick up stuff for my own collection. I go to brag to my friends about all the cool stuff I saw.

If I can purchase some stuff to resell and recoup SOME of my costs, then why wouldn't I? That doesn't make me a dealer. I don't have a booth there, I am a spectator, a collection, then a "dealer" in that order. If I see a deal, I am going to try to get it, simple as that.

One dealer didn't get everything, about 5 or 6 did. This one dealer just got the patch sets because they were sold as ONE set, so it was just me vs him, and I underestimated the value of the patch sets. Again, I have Potter master sets from a couple sets. I don't have the pear tree leaf, I don't have any of the wand cards, I don't have any of the hard to find SDCC exclusives. At some point, those high dollar cards become just cardboard and fabric to me. I have to look at them that way. $2500 for a piece of fabric in my collection, or two months mortgage payment. I don't blame anyone for trying to resell these. Times are tough, and a good deal was had by some people at SDCC

It really bugs me when people go to this show and then try to justify the selling of good they've got there with the pretext that they need to make the cost of going because they couldn't afford to be there in the first place. If so much of a great show has to be sacrificed to get exclusives, is it worth going?

Bryan - you told me you called in a favour to get in the Hard Rock Hotel. Hardly the choice of someone whose first thought was to make money to pay for the trip. You used another favour to get a dealers pass so you was up front for the goodie bags. Wouldn't we all like to be in that position.

It didn't cost the winner of all but two of the auctions (the eyelet cards) squat to go as he was on the phone to the person who was bidding for him - someone who was going to be there anyway. The P.O.T.T.E.R set wasn't you vs him as there was only two bidders - me and the winner. You and I know why you didn't bid on that set.

Sharon was only partly right. There are collectors, dealers and mercenaries.

I think the real problem is someone is just angry they didn't bid more and win it for themselves after seeing what it went for.

You would have to be an absolute BAFOON if you passed on the oppertunity to make a little bit of your expenses back. I called in a favor for a dealer pass, didn't mean I didn't PAY for it. I called in a favor for my hotel, doesn't mean I didn't PAY for it. The favor is just getting the reservation and the pass set up, nothing is free.

There are some exclusives that I buy while I am there because I know they can be turned around and sold for double, and if I spend an hour of my day making $100 here and there, why not. I make $15 at home, so $100 an hour to stand in line and pick up some exclusives is as good as it gets to me.

I am not going to apologize for paying my money to win some great cards. They were amazing, I loved owning them for a short period, and If I could afford to keep them in my collection, I would. I don't NEED to make back a single $ that it cost me to be at Comic Con, I budget my entire year for that single trip, but the opportunity arose to make back some money on what I believed, and turned out to be, a good purchase. I'm not going to apologize for doing what just about any person would do. Sorry you didn't bid enough to win whatever cards you wanted. If you had shown up the second to last night, you more than likely would have won 3 rivet cards, just like If I showed up the first night, the Potter patch would have gone MUCH higher than it did. I missed out, you missed out, a lot of people missed out. I don't understand why this thread is even still going on. If someone wanted to bid higher, they could have. This is NO different than me winning an Ebay auction, other than I paid a lot of money to fly out and stay where the auction was happening.

I truly hope something is done about these auctions in the future.  They have always caused problems and the way they have played out this year has proved things need to change.

When Kay realized there was a problem this year, she split up the 9-card rivet set (actually, they're grommets) into three auctions and allowed people to bid on only one of the three.  I would hope she'll keep this in mind when setting up next year's auctions.

I don't have any thoughts one way or another about splitting sets but I do have many thoughts about one dealer buying all of the cards.  If push comes to shove I would rather Artbox auctioned the cards directly on Ebay, giving anyone a chance to bid, even if they are the top bidder only briefly.

Artbox probably would make more money that way, because they'd be drawing from a larger pool of bidders.  However, they would argue that the auctions attract people and attention to the booth and help promote their products.  It would have been nice if they'd held a few items (rivet cards, Potter buttons, etc.) and had a drawing for them on their website.  They did that one year.
