Couldn't see a thread about this anywhere else but if there is one, I'm sure someone can merge the two.

Just got back from seeing this in Manchester.  Went to the IMAX 3D presentation.  Disappointingly, the whole movie is not in 3D.  In fact, only the first 15 minutes is in 3D, the rest is just regular format.  It didn't even go full IMAX either, it was letterboxed all the way through.  Strange.

Loved the movie though.  About 2 and a half hours long although it felt much longer but not to the extent that it was a drag to sit through.  Funny in places, touching in others, very sad (of course) and very dark as well.  Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I hear the ending was changed a small bit. Can you just let me know if you still enjoyed how it was done?

I thought the ending was fine.  It was handled sensitively.  There was a girl a couple of seats along from me who loudly announced it was the worst ending she'd ever seen for a movie but that was just her opinion.  The film does just kind of... end, though.  Might confuse people who don't know what happens in the final book.

I will be going to see HBP in the next couple of days and the closer it gets the more i'm looking forward to it! ;D

Why is there always someone who has to loudly state their opinion for everyone in the theatre to hear.
I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but when this is done it seems like it is only done for effect and to get everyone to notice them.

Do I need to bring tissues?

Let's put it this way, the girl who made her opinion known was in floods of tears during 'you-know-what' and her boyfriend had to put a comforting arm around her.

The pair of them managed to munch their way through a bag of Dorito's and a bag of Opal Fruits which was kind of annoying.  Don't know why people can't just sit and watch a movie in peace and quiet...

Now I have read the books, so I know what happens. I was just hoping that them cutting the last chapter out would allow me to make it through without tissues. I'll bring them just in case now.

If she was in tears, she obviously liked the movie, so why complain about anything. My husband hears everyone eating and talking in the theatre's. Me, well, I manage to block everyone else out. I guess I am lucky I can do that.

The "you-now-what" in this movie didn't make me cry.  I had a much harder time with several "you-know-whats" in Deathly Hallows.  I'm going to cry my eyes out during those movies!  That scene with Harry walking into Voldemort's camp, with certain people by his side, just destroyed me.

I like to keep my books pristine. I don't even open them up all the way in fear of ruining the spine. My DH book is filled with tear marks. My husband made fun of me when he saw them because he knows how I am with my books. I should have bought two copies. lol.

The "you-know-what" in this one did not make me cry that badly either, but I did tear up a little towards the very end. I'll have to see if the movie has a different effect on me though.

So wait, Cindy, did you see this movie yet? Or did you mean in the book you did not cry?

Oops, sorry, it was the book that didn't make me cry.  We're going to wait a week or two before seeing the HBP movie.  I prefer to be in a less-crowded theater.

Saw it yesterday.  Sat next to this annoying boy who kept giggling in a loud pitchd voice.

I didn't really enjoy the movie.  I think it dragged on for too long and all the good parts were cut.  I expected more Draco scenes too.  I'm a bit disappointed since I had great expectations for it.  Oh well, I'll be rewatching it on Staurday night.  I already have the tickets.   :P

I got a bit teary at the "you know what" at the end. To be more accurate, it was because of the reaction to the "you know what".

Anyone get the feeling we're channelling the Voldemort theme a bit with the whole "you know what" spoilers? :rofl:

I'm not ashamed to admit that i cried at the end of The Return of The King :'(.
I wonder if this will be the first film since then to make me cry.
I shall soon find out. ;D

Sadly for me this film didn't compare, maybe I was expecting too much  :(

I was massively into LOTR at the time. I lived and breathed it totally for 3 years so when the end came i felt like i had been on this massive journey and i cried. I didn't bawl but i had tears streaming down my cheeks.
I am still a big LOTR fan but not as obsessively so as i was at the time.

Being a massive HP fan also, i don't yet know if i will shed a few tears at the "you know what" at the end. I will find out when the moment arrives ;D
Perhaps my tearful moment or moments will be saved for Deathly Hallows.

Well I am a little embarrassesd to say that I am still as obsessive about LOTR :-[
It will always be my all time fave....books and films.
Harry comes a very close second(books) but I never come out of the cinema feeling like I did when I saw any of the LOTR films.
Jackson got it just right where the HP directors fail to deliver especially the last 3 films. The first two were good especially Richard Harris :(
Azkaban was my favourite of the lot but I feel it has all gone downhill since that one ::)

Saw the movie with my daughters on opening day.

As a movie it was fine, but I always have trouble with both the screenpay adaptation and direction of the last 2 films in particular.

The bits of humor were great, and I really liked Rupert Grint's performance. My biggest problem is the addition of scenes that never happen in the book, and the ommision of important things that only book readers would know and depend on for the story to make sense.

If burning down the burrow was important to illustrate the dangerous times, why do we need to see Harry in the Undergrground(flirting), versus an intoduction to Bill Weasley at the final battle, as it is important to the beginning of DH.

Way too much was missing for me here, and wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much content was changed unnessisarily. Shame on Steve Kloves >:(

Sorry, but I get terribly emotional that what could have been a GREAT movie, has to settle for just OK :-[

I felt that if you have not read the books, this was probably a satisfying movie. But even my husband, who has not read
the books, said he was disappointed in this movie.
I felt that the movie jumped around a lot compared to the book. And the fact to inserting things that didn't even happen in the
book confused me. ???
I suppose it was good, but I think I had better expectations.  :(

Just got back from seeing the film and i thought it was FANTASTIC! ;D. Especially after the disappointment of OOTP.
The two and a half hours just flew by!.

Like ferdinand_the_yak, i got teary eyed at the reaction to "you know what" as opposed to the "you know what" itself.

I must admit i got a bit teary eyed for Aragog too!.

I don't think that it's because the films have gone downhill Mugglemum.
I think it's just that when you have your favourite film set in your mind then no matter how good the ones are that follow they will never quite compare.

Azkaban was and is my favourite film too. I t will always hold a special place for me as i was late dicovering HP and it was the first HP film i went to see.

To be honest I went in comparing it to the OOTP which I felt was pretty poor. Sadly I came out feeling the same way as i did about that one...maybe not as disappointed as there were difinite high points but for me, more low ones  :(

 I LOVED Dumbledore in this one  ;D The first time I have enjoyed Gambons performance, the eccentric hippy on speed is no more ;)
Also thought the humour was great...Ron was hilarious and I thought Harrys acting was the best it has been and Rickman as Snape is always amazing :)

The special effects were truly stunning!

Maybe I will enjoy it more 2nd time round but will not be rushing back to the cinema will wait for dvd now :(

We do agree on some things though.
Michael Gambon's Dumbledore is so much better in this than in GOF or OOTP (which i don't think was his fault). He was so much more humourous and kinder as well as being serious when needed. I don't think we have seen Gambon's Dumbledore like this since PoA. Not only does this suit Dumbledore better but it also suits Michael Gambon better.

I thought Dan's acting in this was the best yet as well and really funny too. I loved all his scenes after taking Felix!. Especially the way he walks down to Hagrid's with Slughorn behind and the bit about Aragog's pincers ;D
As a matter of fact i loved the whole of the Aragog burial scene. Especially the bit when the camera is behind Harry, Slughorn, Hagrid and Fang all standing on top of the hill with the wonderful piece of music playing. Absolutely beautifully done.

Jim Broadbent really stood out for me though as Slughorn. His performance was absoultely superb!.

That being said, i thought that everyone as usual did an amazing job :)

I just rewatched it last night and I think it's actually quite good this time.  Maybe it's because I know what would happen (since I didn't really read the book) and concentrated more on the scenary and acting.

I discovered something funny.  Remember that part where Draco was crying in the toilet?  He was supposed to be crying in the girls' toilet (?), but the movie changed it to the guys' toilet.  :rofl:

I didn't even notice which toilet Draco was in. I hadn't even thought about it until i read your post!..LOL!.

I suppose that it was becuase that in the book Moaning Myrtle is the one who Draco confides in and goes to for a shoulder to cry on but as there is no Moaning Myrtle in the film there isn't really a reason as to why Draco would use the girl's toilet so i would imagine that's why it was changed to the boy's toilet.

But au contraire, in the book it *was* a boys' bathroom. (See p. 521, U.S. hardcover edition.)

Myrtle isn't as naive as you think.  ::)

I have just checked p. 487 of my UK Paperback edition and it says "For a moment he could not find Malfoy anywhere, and he assumed he must indeed be inside the Room of Requiurement again, but then he saw Malfoy's tiny, labelled dot standing in a boys' bathroom on the floor below, accompanied, not by Crabbe or Goyle, but by Moaning Myrtle."

Yeah...the poor guy has been hated enough throughout his time at Hogwarts and has been called enough things as it is.

Well, it might not have been any more of a makeover than the one Lavender Brown had between the POA Movie and HBP.  8)

Haha, the Lavender Brown in POA and HBP is just... a different person.  I'm thinking that there are 2 people called Lavender Brown in Hogwarts.  That makes more sense.  :rofl:

Anyway, did the books mention how Voldy lost his nose?  Tom Riddle had a nose, I mean.  I just don't get why he doesn't have a nose when he grew up.

The book doesn't specifically say, but I think it's that all of his magical transformations made him more snake-like.

I myself enjoyed  the movie more than any movie except Azkaban.  It seems a natural progression in the series. The characters are now grown up and the movie is more grown up. Harry out cruising for babes in the first scene, as stated by Dumbledore, I think set the tone for the rest of the movie. Although there were additions and omissions, it held true to the core of the book. I reread the book prior to going to see the movie just for reference and do not feel slighted by how the movies was presented. It does make me wonder though how characters crucial to the next movies will be tied in. Looking at some stills of the next movie you can definitely see Harry, Hermione and Ron in formal attire like they have just attended a wedding. It will be interesting to see how the screenwriter will handle this. As for tearful parts in the movie, I welled up in 2 sections, not only during the reaction to the obvious at the end, but also when Hermione was so obviously heartbroken in the empty corridor after Ron's celebratory snog. The Characters have grown on me through the years and being the softy I am, I hated to see her hurt.

I've been reading on some other forums and a lot of people are complaining about what was left out of this movie.  But JKR was present at the read through's so I guess she gave her approval to the changes.  Maybe they will deal with some of the plot omissions as flashbacks in the DH movie.  It's a two parter so they should have more time to go over things from HBP.  I hope they don't devote the entire DH movie to Harry's search for the Horcruxes - can't imagine that would be much fun, it was a bit tedious in the book.

I finally saw the movie last night, and I really enjoyed it. It didnt drag. But it got to the end and just felt like something was missing, but Im not sure what. Its been a while since Ive read the book...but there is definitely that sense at the end that there was something that wasnt there....

I got a bit teary near the end too, and like Jo, from the reaction rather than the event.
