Happy new movie! I had to pull the book out and get ready to speed-read so that I can keep track of what's changed when I see the movie. (Some of the new characters don't match the pictures I had in my mind!)

Here's the scans from my case.

Hi Sara, I like the biting teacup I was wondering what it would look like. Nice pulls Karen

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: rns91294 July 03, 2009, 12:03:23 PM
Thanks! The teacup swatch is actually a little sticky, like a sticker was on the piece before it got cut up to make the card. Interesting.

So, where are your pictures?

: Re: HBP comments and scans

Thanks for all the congrats on the Hermione. (Gosh, Emma's "all growed up", isn't she?) I can no longer claim to be in competition for the most HP cases ever without pulling one of the Big Three.

Indeed it's looking like there will be some nice options for variant hunters. Those are some nice ones there from yours too, jfer and rns!

On the Slughorn costumes, I'm not yet totally convinced that some of the different clothing items weren't made from the same bolts of cloth originally. My "assignments" to bow tie, long tie, and jacket are merely guesses based on the images on the card fronts.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: rns91294 July 03, 2009, 11:56:51 PM
That's right! This is your first big three pull! :D

I guess once we see the movie, we can check out Slughorn's costumes better. I do wish Artbox would be a little more specific about where the material is from.

My cases have been pretty brutal to me. 4 opened, and I have not hit one of the big three. Oh well.

Did pull this. It is going on evilbay very soon to recoup a little $ to put towards securing at least one of the big 3 autos.

Hey Jeff, you did great with MY case! ;D
I thought of you every moment. But any travel went out the window when I found out that the Compuserve host for the checklists shut down permanently this week without warning. Had to teach this old dog new tricks, because I had been happy with the same setup I'd been using for 15 years.

(For those who follow such things, the new home is:

Anyone else notice that the checklist card is not right? Ir lists Neville being card number 5, yet there is no card of Neville.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: allender July 04, 2009, 09:04:51 PM
Maybe they were extremely embarrassed to find out that they had left out the Hermione card?

Checklist cards. Never trust them. Leave it to the experts.  8)

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: rns91294 July 05, 2009, 07:20:18 AM
Another question. Anyone else pull a filmcard with the cells from before the trailer : "This film has been rated..."? What do you think of that? I pulled these cells, but can we really consider these a part of the trailer?

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: KFCKAREN July 05, 2009, 07:31:41 AM
Hi Sara, I got one that says [TO KNOW THE FUTURE] I will be scanning this weekendto post. At work now. Karen

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: Bryanjs14 July 05, 2009, 07:52:01 AM
I received two of the green screen before trailer cels, and I received one of the WB logo.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: kbmum July 05, 2009, 11:37:07 PM
Those cells should not have been used.  I honestly think anyone who received cards like that should complain to Artbox and ask for replacements.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: Bagshott July 06, 2009, 02:15:42 AM
I know what you mean, but I quite like them and think for me that they will add interest to my collection if I manage to get any - still waiting for my cases. One is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday but I'm hoping to be in London for the premiere!

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: rns91294 July 06, 2009, 02:34:33 AM
I am on the fence. A part of me wants to complain and get cells from the movie, but the other part of me kind of thinks it is different too. It wouldn't cost a lot to buy another film card with cells from the movie.

Bagshott, if you don't get one like that and really really want one, maybe I would be willing to trade you for ones with cells from the movie....

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: allender July 06, 2009, 03:01:09 AM
Have there ever been clips from the movie itself, for the first set that was released before the film's debut? I thought they all had been from the trailers.

This time my CFC1 was the WB logo and CFC8 was the "Return to the Past" trailer title over either smoke or dementors.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: terryweasley July 06, 2009, 05:26:46 AM
All I can tell you is I got a Warner Bros. logo in the OOPU sets.  Of course it's at the beginning of the movie too.  From the film cards I've seen on  :ebay: that tell you what the film cells are, I would most definitely say they are from one of the trailers.  Probably the one that begins with Dumbledore going to the orphanage.  I've also seem more WB logos listed as the film cell than ever before.  Makes me weary to buy a film card without it listing what the film cell is in the listing.

I got 2 that look like previews or part of trailer.  not what I would really expect as a film cell but I guess technically it is.

: Re: HBP comments and scans

hey does anyone know which autos are (or will soon be) available for redemption?  I'm asking cause I'll withhold sending mine in if they aren't available.  Thanks.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: stoney July 06, 2009, 08:13:01 PM
Congrats to everyone on some great cards and varients ;D

I have been away for a week and everything seems to have started without me! ;D

I do like the look of this set a lot. The colours suit the cards very well, particularly on the film cards.

I'm looking forward to getting my case even more now!

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: kbmum July 07, 2009, 12:24:07 AM
As I recall, only SS filmcards had images from the movie instead of the trailer.  However, the cells appear to be limited to only a few scenes, such as Diagon Alley.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: rns91294 July 07, 2009, 12:57:31 AM
I didn't even know the ones from SS were from the movie!

Having the WB logo sucks too. It could be from any WB movie and my cells could be from the beginning of any preview. Again, in a way this is different and kind of neat, but I would like to have a filmcard with at least pictures from the actually movie (or preview) of HP.

So, now I need one of those, the last prop from the Weasley's shop I didn't pull, Tonks costume and a Luna auto to feel complete with this set. Of course, that won't stop me from buying more. lol.

No they couldn't be, the Harry Potter WB logo in the dark clouds is only from the Harry Potter trailer.

: Re: HBP comments and scans

I didn't realize that, so I guess that is okay then. But still on the fence about "the following preview..." ones.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: allender July 07, 2009, 06:44:40 AM
And to clear up potential confusion, "piece of film from the U.S. theatrical trailer" is printed right on the back of the HBP CFC cards!

Hi! I noticed earlier in this link that some of you guys/girls received cells with writing on them!(Before the trailor)
My CFC7 film cel card says "RETURN TO THE PAST" numbered 044/314! I have`nt seen the film and just wanted to know when that appears in the film? :)

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: terryweasley July 18, 2009, 04:13:04 AM
I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say they don't appear somewhere in the movie.  They do appear in the first teaser trailer for the movie.  In fact all the film cell cards I've seen on ebay that you could make out the film cells come from this first teaser trailer.  I don't think they use film from the actual movie.  The used the teaser and trailer film for the film cards.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: Bryanjs14 July 18, 2009, 04:41:51 AM
Yep, 100% from the trailer. No way would Warner Brothers give a card company a print of their movie especially before it hits theaters :)

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: stoney July 18, 2009, 04:44:34 AM
I don't think that film from the movies themselves are used but rather film from the trailers for the film cell cards. The words in your card definitely do not appear anywhere in the HBP as i saw that today.

I have a few trailers on my computer and on one of them around the 38 sec mark the words To Know The Future appear. Then we see Dumbledore walking up some stairs with the lady at the Orphanage and then both of them standing in the doorway of Tom Riddle's room and then at the 46 sec mark we get the words Return To The Past.
This must be where the words on your film cell card come from ;D

And I point out again that the _cards_ say "This Harry Potter™ Cinema FilmCard contains an authentic piece of film from the U.S. Theatrical trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."  8)

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: stoney July 18, 2009, 07:23:35 PM
LOL!!...Yeah there is that too!.
I don't know why i didn't think of that especially as it also says it on my PoA and GOF film cell cards!. ;D
I never see anything!. ;D

I don't think I'll be buying cases/boxes of this set online this time.  Postage's too expensive!
Anyone knows if they're sold in Japan?  I'll be heading to Tokyo some time in August and I fully intend to hunt for them, haha.

Got a low numbered P1 variant from ebay, but that's all I have from this set. :P

: Re: HBP comments and scans

You could contact Artbox and ask.  Artbox is a Japanese-owned company, so I'd say that chances are good that some cases were shipped there.

Wow!. Everyone has has some amazing pulls from their cases/boxes. This set looks like it was definitely worh waiting for.
I should be getting my case from fellow shacker RichWithCards today. If i am half as lucky as some of you have been i will be a very happy man ;D

Hi does anyone know if Artbox has the Harry & Draco autos in yet ? Because I don't want to send redemption unless they do.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: allender July 24, 2009, 08:29:08 PM
I use to take that approach, too. But from what I've seen with Artbox, I can count on them to fill a redemption in order (of course, if the card ever comes in).

I started sending them in "early" to make sure I was in the queue -- just in case something happens, like if Gleeson signs only half of the cards they were counting on.

I've been sending in my redemptions right away, too.  If there's any concern about Artbox receiving the item, it can be sent with signature confirmation and insurance.

I received my HBP tin today. So far as I can tell from the auctions, there's only one version, with an image of Harry, Ron, and Hermione on the top with the Hogwarts castle in the background.

Inside are six Retail packs of 8 cards. Retail base cards are the same as the Hobby base cards but without any foil highlighting. There are no autographs, costumes, props, or filmcards in these Retail packs; I found 47 base cards and 1 "rare foil chase card", R5, identical to the puzzle card from the Hobby packs.

Also inside is exclusive tin-card TC1, with a front image that's a smaller version of the image on the tin top, with the Hogwarts seal, set title, and card number on the card back.

Nice Cards! I hope to put up some pics soon! :)
Just received my Ci4 Chicken Foot Goblets prop today from the states. :ebay:I can`t believe i paid £99.28 for bits of broken plastic :o
I should have made my own using pieces from an old Airfix kit and photo copied the front and back! ;D

I look forward to seeing pics of your cards including the Chicken Foot Goblets Prop.
Maybe you could post a pic of your homemade one as well so that we can compare the two!. ;D

Wow!. Another Hermione Redemption card Bagshott...you lucky so and so ;D ;D

You obviously won't want it as you already have one so ill be quite happy to take it off your hands for you. ;D

One thing i have noticed from everyone's case breakdowns so far is that anyone who has had one of the 3 ultra rare Auto Redemption cards..Harry & Draco, Hermione or Ron has always end up with two of the same Auto cards from their case.
It seems to be either Amycus, Alecto or Luna.

There have been a couple of cases where doubles of Autos have occured where no ultra rares have been found (again mostly Amycus and Alecto) but it seems to have happened 100% of the time where an ultra rare Auto HAS been found.

Perhaps somebody else could take a look through as well and let me know if i am right or just seeing things! :)

Yes, I have been lucky with Emma autos, 2 POAU, 1 3D2 and 2 HBP. But I have broken down a heck of a lot of cases and boxes of POAU!
One of the HBP is up on  :ebay:; I've sold both POAU; I'm going to redeem the other HBP and I intend keeping the 3D2 as I like this card the best.
I have only pulled one Rupert - POAU and 2 Daniel - 3D1 and MM2 Dual with Sirius. I've yet to pull one of the big three from GOF GOFU or OOTP and it's unlikely now that I will.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: stoney July 31, 2009, 05:10:38 PM
It certainly is just down to pure luck with the cards.
You could buy numerous boxes or cases and never get one of the big three and then you could buy 2 or 3 boxes of another set and you will get lucky!.

I am not a massive spender on cases and i don't buy cases of every set. I have only ever bought 3 cases (CoS, PoAU and HBP) as i tend to stick to boxes.
I do tend to buy 4 or 5 boxes from a set but not always at the time of release. I may buy a couple of boxes and then buy a few more months down the line if i get itchy card opening fingers. The only exception to this has been PoAU where i have bought more boxes than i care to remember as well as the case.  That set has been the bane of my life! ;D

All those  boxes and cases i have bought over the last few years and all that money i have spent and i had never had the luck to pull one of the big three and then i bought my first box of MM2 last month for £40 and i had the massive surprise of pulling the Harry and Sirius Dual Auto redemption!.

I had become so used to not finding anything rare or unusual (especialy autograph wise) that at first i only gave it a quick glance and went to set it aside before doing a double take..LOL!.

Absolutely right. On another forum a buyer posted a four-case break of only the autograph totals, including one each of the 'big three.' I used the skills I learned from Professor Trelawney to divine exactly which came where and the composition of case four. It's a curse.

Watson cases (4) are Cluster A: Watson-Cave-Ineson-Ineson-Toase + C2,5,6,8,10,10,12,12 + P2,3,7,9 + CFC 1,5,8
Grint cases (4) are Cluster D: Grint-Lynch-Lynch-Ineson-Toase + C2,5,7,8,2,13,13 + P1,3,5,9 + CFC 1,5,8 + either C5 or C6
Dual cases (4) are Cluster H: Dual-Cave-Ineson-Toase-Toase + C5,6,8,10,10,11,12 + P3,5,12 + CFC1,8 + two from C5 or C10 or P6 or CFC4
(One of those cases had an exta CFC and missing prop, and might have been seeded from 'leftovers'.)

A couple of the Smith+Thewlis cases have had double death eaters, one each of Ineson and Toase, while others have two different Carrows. The cases with UltraRares never have a Rare in them, so the other four autos had to be selected from the two 'commons' and two 'very commons'.

Very interesting reading allender.
At least i know my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.

I'm glad that you had the patience to work all that out. It took me long enough just to make the connection with the big three Autographs, never mind everything else.
Although being taught by an old fraud like Professor Trelawney is not something that i would own up to ;D.

Putting in two of same of an Auto card is a bit of a rip off but if it meant i got an ultra rare then i would be very happy indeed to overlook it. ;D

Has anyone sent any redemptions back to Artbox yet?I have about 10 to send including The Dual Auto and Emma Waton cards(which is in transit from the states) at the moment
Wanted to know how much i should declare the total value at, as Artbox would really love me if they get a customs fee of say $100 or so!

I have sent cards back before to Artbox via Royal mail Airsure and declared the amount at £50 or so but this new set is worth around £600!

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: LikORish-Spider August 01, 2009, 12:21:06 AM
The US does not charge a customs fee on imported cards. Especially if they orginated in the US. (I cry for the UK collectors because of the customes fees on cards, and it makes sales to UK hard too.) What you need to worry about is the insurance in case it is lost in transit, etc..

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: allender August 01, 2009, 01:34:26 AM
(None of the U.S. states nor the central government 'polices' the mails for normal customs declarations. There are Customs rules that put limits on how much can be imported for certain items, so if you want to send me ten cases of single-malt Scotch whiskey I'd be grateful, but there's a point where there's a different form that needs to be filled out and a fee paid by somebody. Travelers see some of those impacts when they arrive Stateside from an overseas trip and are asked "anything to declare?")

The trouble I have with THIS whole discussion is that (IMHO) the whole process of redeeming shouldn't be subject to VAT (or G&ST for our Canadian friends) in either direction. Those charges applied to the original product -- the cases and boxes. You paid a higher price for the chance to obtain a valuable insert and you received the redemption card. There's no Value Added because the value of the right to receive the card is equal to the value of the card. You bought the card before, it's just arriving in a second package.

Do people succeed with that argument?

USPS requires a customs form on a package if it weighs more than a pound (220 g) and/or if it contains "dutiable items." If I were Artbox in sending back redeemed cards, and if inspectors at the other end are reasonable, I would mark the Customs forms "VAT Already Paid" in the value box.
.

Some great points, Jeff.
I was referring to the customes fees not being charged to me. I have received items from the UK with customes declarations of up to 500 GBP. No fees to me. I was not implying that a declaration not be made, just wanted to let people know that for cards it doesn't hurt US receivers. At least not yet.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: allender August 01, 2009, 06:09:24 AM
Roger. Generally nothing is charged for retail purchases for personal use, by mail order or otherwise, but there was a limit on how much Budvar beer I could carry home in baggage* from the Czech Republic. There is no generalized sales or transaction tax like VAT or G&ST.

Cards are safe from other duties, either under the rules for printed matter or for "Collections and collectors' pieces of zoological, botanical, mineralogical, anatomical, historical, archeological, paleontological, ethnographic or numismatic interest" which are free. Separate sketch cards are free under the rule for "paintings, drawings and pastels, executed entirely by hand ..." Playing cards are free by the pack but might be charged 20% in bulk.

At the wholesale level, the U.S. puts import fees on specific products. Call them "tariffs" or "protection of homeland industries" if you like, though they prefer to use the words "trade remedy laws".  ("If you don't like it, stop taxing our stuff.") There's a tariff of 6.5% for wholesale imports of garden umbrellas. Other types of umbrellas get an 8.2% duty, unless they have a telescoping shaft, in which case they're free. If you want to bring a nuclear reactor or its parts into the country, they want a 3.3% fee.

I was going to stop looking for fascinating tidbits, but I had to check: Imports of Yaks aren't charged more than $0.01/kg, and only $0.007/kg if they are from Australia. Horses and cows and pigs are free, but asses are 6.8% from some countries.

* (To Brits, that's akin to "Left Luggage", which ends up on that side of the terminal if you fail to "Mind The Gap". I have a photo of my sister under a Heathrow "Way Out" sign but have never met up with "Max Headroom".)

I still want to know why Yaks from Oz are favored over other types of Yaks. Maybe you are cleaner and less likely to carry disease. But frankly, I don't think the U.K. or Australasia are the primary sources of supply for bovine-yak wranglers in the U.S.

They are made by ARTBOX. I'm a nut for completion of ARTBOX HP cards.
Both of the  "Scene It" Harry Potter games each have a card set made by ARTBOX.

thanks for a warm welcome  :)
well im only 17 and dont have alot of money and i was wondering is it worth buying a case to get one of the big autographs or not?
all advice is appreciated :)

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: LikORish-Spider October 14, 2010, 08:28:25 AM
Here is my 2 cents worth of advice.
I bought 25 cases of Goblet of Fire when they were issued.
I did not get a single Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley autograph.
Of course, I got a bunch of of other great cards.
So if you want a TRIPLE from  Prisoner of Azkaban UPDATE it's a gamble on a case, probably not worth it.
If you want a Hermione from Prisoner of Azkaban it'd better to buy one out right.
A case of Prisoner of Azkaban is rarer than hen's teeth and very expensive.
If, on the other hand, you have zero cards from a set it might be rewarding to buy a case in order to get
a good start from zero.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: kbmum October 14, 2010, 06:02:46 PM
That's good advice. :)

You need to think of buying a box or case as similar to buying a lottery ticket (although a lot more expensive).  Everyone hopes to win, but few do.  If you don't have a lot of money for cards, you have to weigh what it will cost to buy the individual cards you want versus the thrill of opening boxes and not knowing if you will pull a big auto/variant prop or get one or two inserts that are worth less than half what you paid for the box.

Personally, I have absolutely horrible luck with HP boxes.  I reached the point over a year ago where I realized that, for me, it wasn't worth buying boxes.

: Re: HBP comments and scans
: rns91294 October 14, 2010, 08:00:09 PM
I usually buy about 4 boxes of each release, and then get what else I want on eBay or card shows. I did get a case once....but got EXTREMELY lucky with it pulling a hot box (which contains all the insert cards in the set except case incentives). Artbox doesn't do that often, and when they do, they are very hard to get. I only bought a case to be able to open up 10 boxes and see what I get. I didn't once think I would get a rare auto, let alone the box that I did. I would love to get a case again, but to be honest, it isn't worth the money for me right now. Although, for the last movie, I may consider doing it.

Now, with just a couple boxes, you could end up very lucky too. I bought a box at a card show and got a Daniel Radcliffe auto out of it. Again, this is rare. Unlike kbmum, I have had unbelievable luck with my boxes. The truth is, I am happy with whatever I get usually, but if you are looking for very specific cards, it may be worth it to just buy the specific cards you want rather than getting cases or boxes.
