: Paypal dispute refunds? : grecopa June 19, 2008, 12:51:39 AM I opened a dispute through Paypal for a Nintendo DS game that I never got. I was under the impression that if I filed a claim and the seller didn't respond in the time alloted, the money would be put back in my Paypal account. Instead I got a notice in my email that the dispute had been closed...that's it..no other info. Until I logged onto ebay a few days later and found a coupon for $15 issued to me by ebay. The DS game was around $15, and I'm glad I got my money back, but I'm a little ticked that they gave me money I could only spend on Ebay instead of just putting the funds back in my account. It seems like a no refund policy for Paypal now. Only exchanges. Has anyone else heard of this?
: Re: Paypal dispute refunds? : kbmum June 19, 2008, 12:59:05 AM There's a difference between a dispute and a claim. It sounds like you filed a dispute, but didn't escalate it to a claim.
This is what PayPal says about a dispute: Disputes can stay open for up to 20 days. If you are unable to fully resolve your concerns you can escalate the dispute at any time to a PayPal claim. If the dispute has not been escalated to a claim 20 days after it was opened it will automatically be closed. Keep in mind that if your concerns are not fully resolved and the deadline for automatic closure is approaching, you should probably escalate the dispute to a claim. By doing so, you are ensuring that your remain eligible for protection from PayPal. So, I think your dispute was closed, the seller was not penalized, and your $15 coupon from eBay has nothing to do with the transaction. :-\ : Re: Paypal dispute refunds? : grecopa June 19, 2008, 07:25:19 AM I had no idea I had to "upgrade" my dispute. >:() I thought my first complaint was dispute enough. Anyway, the coupon was for the transaction because they mentioned it in the message I got with my coupon and they also apoligized for my money loss. Ok, so I feel better about the whole thing now. I feel pretty lucky actually. I'm glad I wasn't charged with a real *dispute*. I think you only get 2 or 3 a year.
: Re: Paypal dispute refunds? : kbmum June 19, 2008, 07:30:24 AM Wow, I've never heard of eBay offering a coupon for that reason. You were lucky! :) PayPal allows three claims with PayPal-issued refunds per 12 months.
: Re: Paypal dispute refunds? : kbmum June 24, 2008, 07:05:46 AM I just received one of the $15 coupons, too! :o I filed a claim against a seller for non-receipt of a DVD. The total was $5.15 with shipping, and because the seller was suspended for getting something like 140 negatives over a three-day period, PayPal ruled in my favor and put the money back in my account.
Now, I have a coupon from eBay because it thinks the dispute was automatically closed due to the dispute period ending. ??? I'm not going to complain. That $15 will come in handy for the new HP3D set! :D : Re: Paypal dispute refunds? : grecopa June 24, 2008, 07:16:05 AM Ha ha!! Good for you! ;D
