: Do Payment Reminders Annoy You?
: olly August 23, 2004, 03:10:05 AM
Hi everyone,

Need to pick your brains for second!

Just wondering if people get annoyed when they received non payment reminders on eBay even if they haven't paid for the item???

This afternoon I chased up all late payers by using the Reminder to Pay Seller function.

Since then I have had numerous buyers sending rude and abusive emails because I sent them a reminder, even though it has no effect on their eBay account and is only a reminder.

Now the common complaint seems to be "why didn't you email me directly".
The only problem I have with that is this...today I sent 73 automated reminders via eBay and I don't have the time to email 73 buyers individually. And why should I when I have sent them invoices and the totals etc are available on their "My eBay" page!!

I can't stand sending reminders as this happens almost every time, and sometimes I leave it and leave it. Occasionally too late to get my fees back!!  ::)

And what's even more annyoying...a buyer doesn't get a reminder so they think they've paid and they then threaten negative feedback because I have not sent the item. Even though they didn't pay yet!! ::)

Anyway, sorry for the rant and back to original question.

Do payment reminders annoy you? And if they do why?

Thanks in advance for your input guys!!    ;D

*Complete silence breaks out as we are all alloyed at Olly for sending us payment reminders this afternoon*

LOL no, I have never received a payment reminder, (excuse me a moment I have to get some brasso to polish my halo) but I think I remember my Mum getting one once, I think ebay use rather aggressive language, which isn't your fault at all!

Keep doing them a few at a time, it's an easier job for you and you won't get lots of nasty emails all at once!

Someone on here must have received one (you can say a "friend got it" if you are embarassed ;) )  can you post the contents/ ebay's wording?

Dear ****:

Congratulations on your winning bid for eBay item ********, BUFFY SKY TV 7 CARD PROMO SET RARE. Your seller, *******, has informed eBay that your payment hasn't been received yet.

If you have already sent payment or intend to pay soon, please contact ****** at ****@*******.com immediately. Simple misunderstandings are often resolved through direct communication.

** Do not reply to this email.  All you need to do is contact your seller.**

If you have been unsuccessful contacting the seller via email, you are welcome to contact them by phone if needed. eBay allows all members involved in a transaction to request each others' contact information, including phone numbers. This feature can be accessed through the following URL:

 http://cgi3.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MemberSearchShow

You and your seller are encouraged to work things out in the next 10 days.  If this situation is resolved during this time, the matter is dropped and you do not need to take any further action.

If, however, your seller is still unsatisfied after this period, you may receive a Non-Paying Bidder (NPB) warning from eBay.  Once you obtain three warnings on your record your account will be suspended indefinitely.

For additional details about eBay's Non-Paying Bidder Policy go to:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/bidders_overview.html

Please note that eBay does not take the side of the buyer or seller -- understand that we are only trying to help you and your seller trade successfully.  Remember: Your seller is under no obligation to "hold" your item since much time has already passed.

Regards,

eBay Safeharbor Team

That's not so bad!

It wouldn't annoy me, I would just shout "curses" and get my chequebook/paypal out!

Exactly what I thought.

I find them handy because I can't keep track of my odd purchases when I am selling dozens of items daily  ::)

Well I always pay for my purchases as soon as I get confirmation from the seller about postage, insurance and the final amount details (esp as most of my purchases are from overseas). So I have never received one of these either *insert angel halo here*, but I do not think they are rude at all... they would be alot ruder if it was up to me ;D

I admit i have received a reminder but at the time of this my daughter had grabbed the iron and had burnt herself was more worried about her than any auction win.
Once I explained it to the seller after i had sent payment all was okay .

I think i would prefer a friendly reminder that to hear from ebay

Hmm yes that's true, but from a sellers point of view you click about 3 buttons and a reminder is sent, and it also says on their selling pages that they have sent you a  reminder... the idea is really to keep themselves up to date as to where they are up to - if they sent indivdual emails it would make it harder to remember where they are up to I think

(don't ask me, I sell about 3 items a week depending on how much cleairing out I am doing at the time ;))

For a seller I think they are a really handy tool, especially if used appropriately. As a buyer I have received 2, both after only 5 days of the auction ending, both from French sellers who wanted payment in cash. I had already been and bought the currency and sent it off but as we all know mailing overseas is a bit hit and miss with the time it takes for letters to get anywhere. I was very  annoyed  >:( as it then took one seller almost a month to send the goods out.

I find some of ebays statements a little aggressive, but I don't get too many reminders. I'd be ticked off to get reminders from people I do a lot of business with though.

I like to think I'm pretty good at paying. Some sellers are extremely slow (present company excepted!!). It really niggles me when I have to remind tthem Esp when they mail back saying it was shipped days/weeks back. The package usually arrives with a postmark showing the following day  :-X :-X
