According to the May issue of Previews, World of Harry Potter in 3D 2nd Edition will be released in July.

So what do we expect this set to include? Forgive me if i'm wrong but did the 1st edition of World of HP not cover up to and including the Goblet of Fire film?

Does that mean that potentially there will be a part 3 after HBP and a part 4 after DH?
Oh and Memorable Moments surely needs several editions does it not?

I realise that artbox has its profits to think about - but is this not a 2nd edition coming too early and therefore another set of cards that will be seen as overkill? Artbox will say it is the first set of the year I guess, so the HBP 1st set will follow later in the year, with the HBPU early in 2009??? In fact I think I (and others) will repeat similar comments to last year about too many sets......

Lets hope for some 'different' costumes, props and autos to keep the interest going..........
and lets hope that our wallets are able to cope!!!

Good to know.  I got the heads-up a few days ago but the dealer didn't know the name of the new set.  Like RichT, I'm hopeful that Artbox makes this set interesting.  I'm going to have to take out a mortgage on the house at this rate.

I have concerns, too.  The first 3D set covered up to Goblet of Fire, so this one will also have Order of the Phoenix.  How many new items could they possibly have from any of the first four movies?  Repeats, repeats, repeats. ::)  There were also some notable cards missing from the OOTP sets: Umbridge and Sirius autos; Tonks, Mad-Eye, and Sirius costumes; educational decrees; and more.  If these show up in the new 3D set, I'll be a bit ticked off that they weren't included in either OOTP set.  I'm still angry that the COS Daily Prophet was part of the first 3D set (and a 25-case incentive, to boot) and not the COS set.

As RichT said, the HBP set is many months away (the movie will be released in November), so this is Artbox's way of making money before then from its only truly profitable license.

How can you have a second edition already when there has only been Order of the Phoenix released since the 1st edition!! :o
I know it's a long time away but why couldn't Artbox have waited until all the HP movies had finished and released a second edition then so that where the 1st edition covered the first four movies (SS, COS POA, GOF) the second edition would cover the last four (OOTP, HBP, DH part 1, DH part 2).
I know that technically that's only three movies but it's four if you know what i mean ;D.
Not only that but it would of saved me having to try and and find more money to feed my HP card addiction!!. :'(
With OOTP just coming off of it's main set & the update set and the first four films having six sets between them and also all four being covered by Memorable Moments and the first 3d edition what on earth is left for Artbox to put in!!.

Instead, they could update the Literary Set. It only went through OOTP. And they could supplement the final two books with some of the other publications.

Maybe 3-D Update will have a Daily Prophet prop card.

The box and packs have a silver/gray graphic that looks like a badge.  I wonder if the die-cuts for the inserts will be in this shape?

I'm pleased to hear the autograph cards are going to be all new.  Don't know if I'm going to buy anymore redemption cards right now though.  I still haven't received my Mad-eye Moody card from OOPU yet.  I'm taking a wait and see on this set.  I don't even plan on buying a box right now let alone a case.  I've got cards from earlier sets I would like to sell on  :ebay: right now, but the market is at a stand still for cards.  I think Artbox is going to regret issuing another set so soon particularly if it's more repeats of cards.

Thanks for posting the pics Cindy and for the set info HP.  I'm in the same boat as TerryW.  I'd only be interested in purchasing this product if they bring in different inserts and autos.  Although it looks like they're including autos from Riddle & younger Pettigrew, I'd really like to see some other new signers as well (probably wishful thinking) and inserts that don't feel like they've been used before.

Nope new signers means some of the cards will be new signers.  It could end up just being the young Wormtail and Tom Riddle and the rest being repeats.  I doubted any of the ones who signed for OOP and OOPU would repeat this early.

Just got an email from Tom Breyer.  He says only 500 cases are going to be made of the 3D second edition.

Since there's only one movie in this set that wasn't in last year's 3D set, I think Artbox needs to make an effort to release the card list prior to the set selling out or the pre-order deadline (whichever comes first).

That would be nice, but I doubt they would do that.  They might not sell out if we knew what was in it before we commited to buy.  >:D

How about Artbox getting auto cards included from the director of each film.
Probably just a silly idea and it probably won't ever happen as they aren't characters from the films but it would of been something new and interesting. :D

Oh goody another set I dont have to buy LOL the Mrs has a problem looking at these cards they upset her eye's  :P (seriously they do)  So I can buy myself some bits LOL

The 3D effect does bother some people.  Others, who have amblyopia (lazy eye), can't usually see things in 3D.  My son has this condition and even with his glasses (which corrects the problem), he fails the part of the eye exam that uses 3D images.

They did director cards for the Lord of the Rings sets, I don't see why they couldn't do them with HP :)

I believe Topps has done that with a number of their products where they've included the film director or creator of story. 

Auto of the directors would at least be different than what we've seen from Artbox and a nice addition to boot.  But I still keep praying for autos from the cast members who haven't signed (Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman & Emma Thompson).  Guess I better keep  :o=

Yep! Topps and Inkworks have BOTH done director autographs (Guiermo Del Toro from Hellboy, Mark Steven Johnson from Daredevil just to give an example) and Rittenhouse has Jon Favreau signing for Iron Man in the upcoming set...I would love to see an autograph for each director, because there have been some amazing ones so far :)

The rumor is that Robbie Coltrane will never sign for any trading card set.  He was approached for a James Bond set and declined, supposedly because he doesn't believe in people having to spend money to obtain his autograph.

That's a nice sentiment.  He obviously lives in his own little world because people do sell the autographs they get from him for free.  >:D

Yes, Tom is indeed taking pre-orders.  If he doesn't get back to you right away, I'll forward his email to you.

I've always been delighted with Potomac too, but as their biggest customer, Tom has been able to have Artbox "drop ship" direct from California to USA customers, so the shipping component of the price is lower.

(Yaksters have been good in reminding people that this benefit will go away if people start selling things before the official street date.)

Thanks for sending the e-mail. :) I went ahead and ordered a case from him this morning. I just hope they have some other neat autograph inserts (though the two mentioned are pretty neat).

Another reason they may be releasing the second 3D set is that the autograph redemptions for the first set are due in at the end of May. This may give them time to decide what to do with any remainders.  :S

I don't think the redemptions for the first 3D set have any bearing on the release date for the second set.  Artbox won't take the leftover autos and add them to the second set.  If anything, those extra cards may find their way into the SDCC goodie bags in July (if Artbox does those again this year).

The timing of the 2nd edition is purely financial.  Like any business, Artbox needs money and it can't wait until November's HBP set for an influx of cash from its most successful license.

Which brings me to another question... how soon after a movie do the sets come out? I got into the game a little too late with the OOTP set, and would like to pre-order a case this time around...

The first set for a movie can be released anywhere from a couple of weeks before the movie premiere to a week or so afterward.  Pre-orders start roughly two months before then.  If you use a particular dealer/distributor, you could contact that person in September or so to ask about pre-orders for HBP.

The usual "goal" for the cardmakers has been to release the set a week or two before the movie comes out, so that all of the cards can be in stores at the time of the premiere and they can draw on the free advertising the movie provides. In today's world they can cut it closer for a hobby release because so much of the buying is by internet and there's only one or two trucks moving.

Sometimes a movie company will not want any of its key images released before the movie, and if the card company can't find enough material, it might have to release the set on the day of (or just after) the movie. Sometimes the goal date is delayed a bit if the cardmakers didn't receive material for props or costumes early enough. (They have to depend on the amount of attention the movie production is paying them during the rush to edit and print the film.) Artbox will use autograph redemptions, but they won't be happy if they get prop and costume material late. That free advertising can be critical for "counter sales" of boxes and packs. At movie time you'll also see a new flurry of Potter discussions at The Yak Shack.

For the Potter films, where we know there is going to be a first release and then an update set, some of the yowsa images or story spoilers can be held for the update set. Almost always the update sets are scheduled to come out at the same time as the DVD release. More free advertising and renewed fan interest.

But one cool thing about pre-ordering, is you might get your cards and know what's in the movie before everybody else in town has had a chance to see it. You can go to the movie and tell your friends to "Pay attention here, you're gonna love this." You might even be able to share some spoilers after the film, like telling people the barman was Aberforth, revealed by the titling of the OOTP McManus autograph. Book 7 hadn't come out yet, so Jo hadn't confirmed it. ;)

So you have a reasonable prediction that shipping dates won't slip very much for sets that are tied directly to the movie or DVD release. Projected release dates can be tentative for other sets like 3-D, Memorable Moments, etc. The timing depends more on what other sets the company is working on, and a principle (sometimes violated) that they shouldn't be bringing out too many series for the same universe too close together. Like other people have pointed out, as long as Potter sells, Artbox will try to bring out a new specialty set whenever there's a gap before the next movie set or update.

I like the idea of getting director/producer autos, in addition to the actors...imagine a JKR auto card! Not that it would ever happen, but what an amazing card that would be.  :)

That's a brand new date as of today, and is less than a month away.  It'll probably go out on or around that date.

I just checked the Potomac website and they have a listed release/ship date of June 30th.  :-\

Potomac's dates, at least for HP items, are based on when the company expects to receive the cases and on Artbox's official release date.  Potomac may have added some extra days to the date so that its customers aren't upset if the cases go out later than stated, since Artbox often changes its ship dates.

When Potomac only knows for-sure the month of the release, they always (well, I think always) tag it with the last day of the month. They do ship so that it will arrive by the street date (or as soon as they can, if they don't get it early).  ;)

Also, how do you think distribution will be with this set? Will they stick with the OOTPU batching distribution of costumes/props/autos, or do you think they'll try something different?

Well...the word going around is that this case break will be different than anything we've seen before from Artbox.  Each case will have 5 autos, 3 costumes, and 6 props, for a total of 14 inserts in a 10-box case.  There will also be foils (approx. 5 per box), 3 box toppers, and 3 case loaders.

If this holds true, each case will have four boxes with two inserts and six boxes with one insert.  The boxes are more expensive than a regular HP release, and if there's only one insert in 60 percent of the boxes, those inserts had better be pretty special to justify the cost. :-\

Wow... that amount of props is unheard of. Oo; I was wondering about the costume cards though... they didn't look too spectacular, and if you're right about the inserts, that would be why. I'm really excited about all the props though!

The ship date is still June 10, three weeks away.  I haven't yet heard about the official release date, nor is there more info about inserts.  Although, we've all ready received a lot of insert info from Artbox, more than they usually give out at this point.

The last 3-D set also had rare and ultra-rare inserts (like the foil sets). Looks like they aren't having them this time around too. I am really upset by the insert breakdown though. Hey, anyone know how many cases/boxes are being produced for this set?

Wow! that is bad!  I will say that I like some of the cards that I've heard about here and the autos sound nice, but I'm personally not very certain now about opening lots of boxes, etc.  May be cheaper and more worthwhile to just buy singles.  Thanks for the info because I was just about to place my order.  Now I may hold off or not pre-order any at all.

Well, it sounds like a possible delay, if there is no new information and we are less than a week from the originally stated June 10th ship date.

Unfortunately not. Tom's email from yesterday the 6th said Artbox slipped the shipping date to the 19th.

I can't recall one HP release when Artbox released info about all of the inserts before the cases were shipped.  Generally, there are some surprises when people start cracking cases.  It really used to irritate me that Artbox wouldn't give out all of the info, but now I like to see a few surprises. :)

I like the props that I see now. The more the better. I don't like that they cut inserts per case from 20 to 14 but with more props I can adjust. I wonder if future sets will be the same ratio?

The ratios were different for the MM set, too.  I'm hopeful that the insert ratios will return to normal for the regular movie releases.

I'm hopeful to see the return of the regular insert ratio as well. However, I do agree that with this set having more props, it indeed makes it more intriguing for me. I like the props more than anything else in the sets...except for maybe a small number of autos :P

The cases have been definately shipped, my contact person received my case from Artbox today and will ship it now to me. It shall receive it about the 29th.

One seller has base sets, box toppers, puzzle sets, and one of the case toppers on eBay.

Sellers who get their product directly from Artbox can take their own chances and risk the wrath of the manufacturer. But if you ordered it through a dealer who kindly arranged for it to be "drop-shipped" to you, or if your dealer is lucky enough to get the cards in your hands before Thursday, please try to respect the Artbox release date of June 26th before posting auctions that show images of specific cards.

It's an interesting dilemma. Obviously there can't be a real problem for presales of things that are certain to be in the hands of the seller like boxes, sets, and insert sets like the puzzle and boxtoppers. They like everybody to have the same chances at the rest of the market though, regardless of how quick some people might get the shipments because they live nearby. Artbox used to try adjusting the shipping dates by address so that everything would show up at the same time, but that didn't work very well.

I'm not sure that it makes much difference, except that the company would like every card release to be an EVENT, where all consumers can open their boxes at the same time and enjoy the thrill of surprises. Most resellers have respected the Street Date over the years, but now we have internet electrons that travel much faster than the big rigs on the interstate highways ...

Possibly the people who post single-card auctions as early as possible are hurting themselves because the possible buyers don't know yet whether they need that card. I've seen some early auctions that go for less than those a few weeks later after the "market" has figured itself out.

The Shack's policy has been that we will not allow box breaks or scans until the official release date.  I suppose we could allow it, since there would be no repercussions for the Shack.  Artbox does not advertise here, nor does it provide any other support.   We merely honor the release date because we choose to do so as sort of a "good neighbor" policy.

However, if cards are in the public domain prior to the release date, such as on eBay or a dealer website, we do allow links -- for discussion purposes.  This is a discussion forum, and should a seller be stupid enough to risk his or her future Artbox purchases for early sales, then we're going to talk about that and the cards. 

If someone here were to use the Shack to sell those cards directly or post a link to his or her own auctions prior to the release date, that post would be deleted.  Is this a fine line?  Sure, but this is what we've been doing for years and it works for us. :)

Thanks for putting the link in.  I've already ordered the complete prop and dealer incentive sets from Tom Breyer, and it was nice to see what the cards look like.  Damn Artbox and the person who posted the Harry Potter autograph card.  I only need the Hermione Card to finish the OOP autograph set and I had decided not to purchase the autos in this set.  Now I may have to rethink my decision. >:D

Welcome to the Shack Sue & appreciate the info & link.  I have to admit I'm liking the 3D Series 2 set as I see more and more cards.  I originally was a bit apprehensive about this set as I didn't really much care for the first series.  However, it's looking good and interesting.  There are a few props up on eBay that look pretty good.  I can't wait to get my shipment  :D

I'm sorry if my earlier post was unclear and kbmum had to clarify it.  We like to encourage people not to _submit_ auctions to eBay early, but once somebody posts an auction, "it's out there" for discussion.

There's a reason that won't be obvious. Some of us aren't big dealers but we can't resist getting a case or two of every HP series to get a head start on our master sets. Normally, the distributors who buy directly from the card company receive the cases and send them out so that they will arrive in the hands of us "consumers" no earlier than the official release date. But at least one great distributor has persuaded Artbox to ship cases directly to his customers. They only have to be shipped once, which lowers the cost of collecting. The other consequence is that we receive our cards earlier.

If "amateurs" like us start posting too many pictures and auctions before the street date, those benefits might go away, and Artbox may ship only to the wholesale-level distributors. If one of those "professionals" releases cards before the official date, they can deal with them as they wish. But if I did it, I could hurt everybody else like me plus the distributor who has graciously helped to make things cheaper and quicker.

I live far enough from Artbox' shipping docks so that I'm not a big risk, but I still expect my case to show up today. I feel less pressure to open all the packs tonight just so that I can be first to share my results with the Shack, if the discussion won't be opened until tomorrow.  ;)

Update: The eBay seller with the specific cards was asked to remove his early listings, and he did. The auction for the Daniel autograph was live for only about 20 hours before it became "no longer available for sale."

There is usually at least one person who decides to sell items before the release date.  Oddly enough, those listings are almost always ended early by the seller. ;)

We are like one big family here. I remember stumbling across this site after the POA set was released (the first set). I found the cards on eBay, and then was starting my collection when I found this place. Been here ever since. I would even go as far to say that one of my closest friends was met on this forum. Ditto.  same here except I started when OOTP came out (late bloomer).  This site has been a life saver on many occasions and a wealth of information (and extremely helpful & friendly folks too).  Anyway, checking my mail everyday with great anticipation for series 2 boxes  ;D ;D  hopefully any day now.

I got mine from dealers on  :ebay: I think there are still some up for sale at just under $600 plus shipping
