: OOTPU base card collation problems and oddities
: kbmum January 03, 2008, 08:39:49 AM
Several people have reported problems with base card collation, i.e. not being able to complete base sets, extra cards, etc.  I had a strange base card break between two boxes.

From box #2456, I collated one base set and was missing these cards for a second base set:
101
111
114
133
145
157
161
177

The same box had these spare cards:
108
112
124
126
132
137
152
163
171

Then I opened box #4136.  I made another base set.  The second base set was missing the exact same cards that were spares in the first box!  If that isn't weird enough, the spares in the second box filled every single hole for the second base set in box #2456! :o  I've never had that happen before.  So, I managed to make four base sets from two boxes with only one spare card, 112.

That is odd.  I'm just about to open my first boxes of Update and will let you know if I find the same problem.

Unlike Cindy's luck, I only managed to get 3 full base sets from 4 boxes. All the spares in the 4 boxes were the same numbers and many packs had identical cards in it.  Here are my left over cards. I have:

22 of card 94
15 of 96
28 of 102
10 of 105
17 of 106
37 of 111
15 of 119
35 of 126
3 of 134
24 of 142
10 of 144
35 of 146
11 of 153
3 of 163
35 of 165
14 of 170
6 of 175

I was very upset. I normally get 2 base sets per box and to only get three sets from the 4 boxes didn't make me happy. Luckily, the boxes each had two inserts, and I was happy with them.

I'm not sure about the number of base sets besides, but I was completely missing card #141 from all of my boxes - I couldn't find a single instance of the card at all in my case. :S

well I opened 4 boxes tonight and managed to complete 7 sets.  Here are the results:

Box #5540: completed 1 base set but missing card #101 from a second set (no extra spare cards).

Box #3720: completed 1 base set but missing card #101 from a second set (no extra spare cards).

Box #2581: completed 1 base set but missing card #93, 110, 114, 120, 134, 146, 151, 166 & 173 from 2nd set.  Extras: #101, 111, 118, 127, 138, 157, 161 & 177.

Box #4916: completed 2 base sets w/ one extra, #101.

I think I did pretty well all things considered and will post other observations as I continue to open more.

So it is starting to look like my boxes were just really messed up. I am very dissapointed to only of had three base sets from my 4 boxes.

You didn't get to complete any base sets which is bad too. I wish number 141 was one of the ones I have tons of, as I would have passed them along to you.

I bought three cases, but I only checked the base cards in the first case.  I know I had atleast one box that I didn't get one full base set.  I had the worse luck with #124.  Several boxes were missing that card that why I just gave up after the first case.

What does everyone do with their spare cards? Is anyone going to sell them on Ebay?  If so i would buy card 142.

I got 1 full set in my box and was one short of a second base set, I am only missing card #142.

I have 3 sapre cards, 93, 110, and 167.

Box #4338: completed 2 base sets w/ one extra, #114.

Box #360: completed 2 base sets w/ extras #101, 161 & 177.

Box #881: completed 1 base set w/ extras #93, 104, 110, 114, 120, 134, 146, 151, 166 & 173.  Missing: #101, 111, 118, 127, 138, 157, 161 & 177 from 2nd set.

Box #1539: completed 1 base set and missing #177 from 2nd set.

Box #2040: completed 2 base sets w/ extras #133, 145 & 157.

Box #3160: completed 2 base sets w/ no extras.

Of the remaining 6 boxes, I ended up making 12 base sets by shuffling extra cards from one box to another.  For the case as a whole, I managed to have 19 base sets total.

If the ideal is two base sets per box and there are 10 boxes in a case, then you did fine with 19 base sets. :)

Blows my mind how the collation seems to be so bad with some boxes.  I guess it comes with the territory.

Yeah, kind of makes me mad that I couldn't mix and match mine like that.

yeah I can understand how you'd be upset.  I may potentially have some extras to share but won't know til I finish opening this week-end.  I have one more case coming in but don't know when it will arrive.  Hopefully collation will be decent.

At least I had two inserts per box that I liked. Otherwise, I would really be upset. I am just glad I got some nice cards and at least one full base set for myself. Just thought it was really strange.

: Re: OOTPU base card collation problems and oddities
: sfmuggle January 05, 2008, 05:35:20 AM
apparently not so strange.  just horrible collations for some boxes/cases.  glad to hear that you at least pulled the two inserts per box.

Of my three boxes:
The first had two full sets, and only one spare card
The second made one full set, and was one card short of a second (132) with 2 or 3 spares
The third made one full set, and was one card short of a second (132 again), with one or two spares

So, from three boxes, four full sets, and two sets short one card each...my spares are (if anyone needs any):
93
101
110
112 (2)
129
140
149

Wow, you got lucky!  3 boxes adn you made 4 base sets, where I had 4 boxes that only made 3 bases sets. Looks like it was luck of the draw this time.

It seems like the collations can really vary from case to case (and thus box to box).  I opened one where I was able to basically get almost two per box (or mix and match to complete) and I opened another one where the collation was just horrible (8-9 sets in all, notably missing card #180).  Missing a bunch of cards from the #150s and #160s.

Does anyone need a couple cards (2 to be exact), to complete a set???  I opened 1 box, and was able to complete 2 base sets.

I have these 2 cards left over, if anyone needs them:

117
129

In contrast to my post directly above; I opened 1 more box, and did HORRIBLE with the base cards.  I got my 2 main pulls, which I'm cool with.  But I was 2 cards short of completing 1 base set; and the rest of the cards kinda go like this.......

Just a "few" of the oddities.....

Card # / Qty.
92    x10
100  x5
110  x8
115  x6
126  x6
131  x8
152  x9
157  x10
180  x8  .....after seeing my 3rd checklist, I KNEW something was wrong.

Yes, all those repeats (plus a "few" more) from ONE box.  Also of note....unlike my first box, none of the base cards are in very good condition.

I have yet to collate or perhaps that should read try and collate my base sets, but I managed to pull 6+ checklist cards out of so of my boxes so the odds don't look too good on being able to get one base set per box let alone two. >:(
What a shambles ... >:()

My case collated well on base cards this time around, but World in 3-D was horrible. When most boxes hold very close to two complete sets with good collation, it makes it tough to find trading partners to fill in the gaps of the rotten ones. At least when there are 2-1/2 sets per box, many folks are going to stop at two and have some leftovers.
