So, I assume everyone heard of the auction for charity of Jo's handwritten book, right?

So imagine my suprise when I logged into Amazon.com to see this page:

 We're incredibly excited to announce that Amazon has purchased J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard at an auction held by Sotheby’s in London. The book of five wizarding fairy tales, referenced in the last book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is one of only seven handmade copies in existence. The purchase price was £1,950,000, and Ms. Rowling is donating the proceeds to The Children's Voice campaign, a charity she co-founded to help improve the lives of institutionalized children across Europe.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is extensively illustrated and handwritten by the bard herself-- all 157 pages of it. It's bound in brown Moroccan leather and embellished with five hand-chased hallmarked sterling silver ornaments and mounted moonstones.

The first report I read this morning said the winning bidder was a rare books collector.  Guess that part was wrong!  I like that Amazon is providing photos of the book, and it would be great if JK would produce a mass market version.

As the information I saw everyone showed the same purchaser, I can only assume that Amazon used a proxy.  Can't wait to read the article in Publisher's Weekly today now that the true winner has surfaced...

Actually yes  ;D  just kidding.  You make some awesome props.  I echo Pepper's sentiment.  Would love to read the book and it is awesome that amazon posted some photos.

Ha - thanks Tia, although I'd heard all about the auction etc. I have been away from the net lately and hadn't heard this stunning twist in the tale at all... now I have lots of new reading material :D
