When I say possible... I mean definite! We're going to be moving servers again... hopefully this home will stick for a bit longer (the new host has nothing but positive reviews so here's hoping...).

Anyway, as soon as I start I'll shut off access so we don't lose any posts but you won't be able to post for a little while.

Just thought you'd like to know!

Also I'll be trying to install a fresh copy of the forum software without losing the posts and user data. Wish me luck! Hopefully that'll fix some problems which I've been told are happening (like search not working). Fingers crossed for a smooth transition...

Pack your bags everyone - we're about to move - I thought we'd give you more notice on this, but  as other posts show the server we are currently on is falling down about our ears.

The forum will now be locked so no more posting on this server (boo) and over the next few hours your ISPs will all start to realise the new location of the forum. There's neither rhyme nor reason to who will find it first.

There probably will be some things that don't work off the bat (we've done a dummy run but the best step now is to take the plunge), so please report here (or email/PM Mark and I) if you notice anything odd :)

All the best and see you in 24 hours

It's back! After some unexpected events (being our old host disabling my account without notice - good thing I had taken a backup the night before!) everything appears to be up and running again as usual.

As per the routine, please let me or Roz know if you spot anything... 'not quite right'.

Also, this is a fresh installation of the forum (we're up to date!). This means that I hope any functions that weren't working before are now fully operational. If they're not then... well there's no hope now lol!

I received an email from a Shacker who still can't access the site.  Is there anything she can do?

Everyone should be able to see the new site now, although anyone that can't - it's simply a matter of waiting. Not everyone sees the new one immediately - it all depends on how quickly their ISP updates their records...

Also, I've tried searching and it clearly doesn't work still. I think I've figured out why... now I just need to figure out how to fix it! Hang on for a bit guys :)

Working beautifully now through my ISP.  I just needed to remember my password again.

The chuckle I got was from the PM function. I had wondered whether a previous message had gone through because of the disruption. I tried logging in and got the screen that said I had a new PM waiting, but no PM content. Other stuff went down at the same time.

Finally, I retrieved that new message I had been wondering about, and it merely said that messages were getting through.  ;)  I was just a bit ahead of my time ...

Interestingly, when Mark wrote this, I couldn't see it ;)

It was simply a case of waiting - I still couldn't access the site this morning.

Search now working - anyone got any reports of any probs?

Some systems need to be put in place - there's no button to access the price guide at present but it's still there - just go to

www.theyakshack.co.uk/tradingcards

This was the one I was wondering about--Thanks, Roz! :) ;) :D

EDIT: Roz, I was just trying to access the price guide, but it just keeps telling me I'm a guest and I need to log in, yet I am logged in. So, I can't view the individual cards at all (even after I re-log-in) I hope I explained this all right.  :-[

The price guide seems to be working faster for me than on the old server.  :)

The site is generally faster & smoother for me too.  Having some problems running w/ Safari but seems to run well with Firefox.

I've got the same problem.  I'm logged in on the board, but the price guide tells me I'm a guest.  I log in again and it STILL says I'm a guest in the price guide...

Oh Tialessa I have the same problem.

I noticed the same problem last night (must have logged in 5 times).  Thought it was just me.

I still can't log into the price guide :(

I've got auctions to enter too...

I log into the Shack... all is good... I click on the Price Guide link and it calls me a guest.  I log in and it takes me to the forum.  I click on the Price Guide link and it calls me a guest.  I log in and it takes me to the forum.  Repeat repeat repeat...

: Re: Possible disruption imminent
: allender November 21, 2007, 09:46:40 AM
That's weird, I've tried several different OSes and browsers, and it works fine for me. But most of those combinations didn't remember me until I logged on, but then the Price Guide was okay too.

Have you tried emptying your browser's cache? It might have some 'debris' left over from the Shack's previous digs, and whatever "remembered" you when you made return visits might be confused. That's what it sounds like, anyway ... though if you're using Internet Explorer 6, there are a long list of bugs with it, and this might be one.

Well that's good news. In the long term the way the price guide database works needs to be reconsidered... the pics and auction info are both held within the same database, which does add a little sluggishness although the pics only come out at about 40k or less. In a rewrite these would be stored separately - something for the "to do list"
