So, along with discovering Dr. Who, I have been watching Torchwood. I have to admit, I really, really like it. It's really cool. I like the characters, particularly Jack and Gwen.

Is there any back story on this series or the characters that we don't know about in America? Are they filming another season? Is it popular in the UK?

The only back story is Jack and there's not much of that other than in Dr who, he is still much of a mystery. There is a new series going to be aired late this year in the UK. I like Torchwood, but I like Dr Who better, the sex in Torchwood gets in the way.

I don't know why but I never quite finished the first series of Torchwood. I loved it but it got very lonely, sinister and it put me on edge whilst I was at a time in my life when I felt pretty useless... no idea why Torchwood would do that to me but I'd like to go back to it and catch the last couple of eps. Are you on series 2 Dawn? Or when does that start?

I think its late in the year sometime.

I have noticed that Dr. Who is more family friendly. I love Dr. Who. :) It's just so much fun.

Torchwood is very, very sexual, which surprised me a bit, since I discovered Dr. Who first and this was a spin-off.  This series is definitely darker.

The story-lines on Torchwood are intense. The one with the fairies was very deep, while the one last week was disturbing (the one about the mysterious country-side deaths). However, the relationship between Owen and Gwen evolved at the end of last week's episode, which, for some reason, I don't think will sit well with Jack. What series is this, then? My guess is series one, but I'm not sure.

Yup series one, series two hasn't aired yet. There is also a kids spin off called Sarah Jane adventures although I only saw one of them, the Dr is the best (not to mention mr tennant being very tasty too ;) )

Have you seen any of the orginal Dr who's?

The only Dr. Who's I have seen are of the Dr Who before Tennant took over (and I must agree hugely...he is so dreamy  :-*).

BBC America showed the first season of Dr. Who with David Tennant and the ones before that. I was drawn in immediately.  :)

I understand the Dr. Who series has been going on for a while? I wonder if I could rent past seasons so I can really catch up. Is Tennant your favorite Dr. Who thus far? I really like him.  :)

That website I gave you has a link to the classic series where you can find out about all the old ones. It had stopped for something like 16 years before the new series came back, there was an attempt with a TV but it didn't really work. David's doctor is the 10th, before him the 4th doctor was a favourite, with me too. But I like many like number 10 the best now.

The Doctor (9) that brought the series back (Chris Eccelstone) was good but he annoyed me, as he went on how he had always wanted the part but just about managed one series, but to our advantage, as David's Doctor is so much better, he seems more friendly than Chris's but still with that dangerous side.

There are a couple of episodes in the latest series which show just how good David's acting is they were brilliant.

Casanova? Is that a movie or series? There was a Casanova starring Heath Ledger not too long ago, but I'd love to see David Tennant in that role! He is a dashing man, isn't he?   ;)

Ok, so the Doctor I first saw then was the one right before David Tennant took the role? Chris Eccelstone? I liked him, though I did think he was pretty cold...very cold actually. I like that David seems kinder...and playful. I just really think he fits the role so well.

I will have to explore the history of the series through the site you gave me. I can't wait to learn more about it!  :)

Ah yes but David's Casanova was first, and it was written by the main writer for Dr Who these days.

I'm trying to get a friend of mine into it, but he's being stubborn (he's very picky  ::)). If I buy him the DVD's for the Holidays or something, he'll watch them out of obligation and ultimately end up liking them (that's how he started watching other shows and films, including HP).

My Mom saw one episode and is now hooked on Dr. Who. She was too spooked by Torchwood to watch another episode, though she said she wants to pick up on it again.  :)

For UK Shacks the new season of Torchwood starts on the 16th January at 9pm on BBC2. I have seen the trailers on TV a couple of times and it looks great. I am looking forward to Martha Jones joining the team. You can also watch the trailer from the Torchwood site http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/

I thought there was supposed to be a cut down family version repeated after but I can't find it in the listings.

Torchwood Season 1 was released on DVD this week here, so it's not too late to catch up.

Already have mine and I'm thinking about watching it all again before the new season premiers here on Saturday.  Have to do something while sorting Heroes cards! >:D

Since I don't have access to the Torchwood website (because anyone outside the UK cannot gain access--I would imagine b/c we are behind on BBC America), can any of our UK friends fill us in on any gossip surrounding the whole Owen episode.

I was really shocked about what happened to Owen. And are they leading to a Jack and Gwen relationship?

I finally got to see some of season one thanks to my local Blockbuster finally getting it ::).  I have to rent them one disk at a time though so I am patiently waiting or should I say impatiently waiting ^-^ for disk three to arrive at my post office so I can pick it up  ;D  I am looking forward to "Countryside" because of the previews on the last disk, it looks scary and exciting. I just know when I start making money again I will have to buy the box set for season one  :o

I was also actually able to find someone on the net who downloads season 2 after they air in the UK so I am caught up with that season also which is really nice even if I am watching them somewhat out of order  ::)

I find that out of all the character Ianto is my favorite with Jack, Tosh and Owen coming in after. I can't seem to tolerate Gwen half the time because of things she does but otherwise then that I really like "Torchwood".

I do love what I am seeing in the  second season or series (I get confused with that sorry) so far and I hope it continues to be great for the final few episodes it has left.

The only sad thing about getting hooked on another sci fi show is that when the cards come out I know I will want to collect them  :-\ I just hope they kindly wait until I find a job  :o=  ;)

I can now see why this is a must see show for some people  ;D

As far as I know, the US is only one behind us (thats on I main channel, I'm one ahead from digital)

I have heard talk of Dr who cards, I think I might have missed them. But I haven't heard anything about Torchwood cards yet.

Well, anything really. I don't want to say what happened to Owen outright b/c I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen that episode yet, but are there rumblings of him possibly leaving the show? I just didn't see that coming.

Do you think it's doing well enough to have another season? Oh, I had read that Susie might make yet another appearance...anything to that?

Yeah I will. I'm getting near to the end of 'Slow decay' which is rather good. Its got some good lines in it and some not so good lines, there's one where Owen says 'he's definately the lesser of two weevils'.

Right I have read 5/6 of the Torchwood books and the one I would really recommend is 'Twilight Streets' By Gary Russell, its very good and ties well to the program. I did have to go and watch the last episode of series one as it related to it (that Bilis bloke is in it), and its got over shadowing the the second half of series two. Great Read.

Just so you know, there is going to be a Torchwood story on BBC 4 at some point. I was interested until I found out it was post exit wounds, don't think I'll bother. Seems like Marthas in it big surprise, any money on Micky too?

I've been thinking, yes it does happen occasionally. Anyway re: Tosh/Owen vs Martha/Micky. Why Tosh and Owen were so good, they were good characters because they weren't what you would expect of a Dr and a techy. Owen was a rough around the edges doctor with a lower class accent, not what you would expect when thinking of a Doctor but a bl**dy good one too and Tosh was a woman techy, a role which is generally a mans area, yet she to was bl**dy good. With taking on Martha and micky you loose all that. Martha is smart and well spoken (and do they really want a doctor who never actally did all her training, all those years at med school are rather important!) and low and behold a bloke techy how unusual.

Rant over. (well for now at least)

I have heard the same thing and in a way it makes me happy because no one can replace Owen and I am crossing my fingers they get him back somehow.

I also heard that she may have signed up for a spin off of the U.S. Law and Order only the show she will be in will be called "Law and Order:London". Just when you thought they couldn't possibly make anymore Law and Orders this happens  (that is if it is true).  ::) :rofl:

You can say that Law and Order is like CSI in that there is one for everywhere. If you have never seen a  Law and Order you get the law in the first half of the show then the order comes in the second half hence the name Law and Order  :rofl: At this time the US has the original Law and Order, Law and Order:Special Victims Unit, and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. They had one called Law and Order:Jury Duty but amazingly enough it falied so it got canceled.

I am also like you and I would prefer Tosh and Owen back and I don't care for Mickey coming in and replacing one of them because I didn't really care for him when he was on Doctor Who.

That will stink if they only stick to the five  :( It is bad enough that some people have to spend a fortune for the DVD's for only 13 episodes but to spend it on only 5 episodes  >:() :'(

I have a feeling about the five, I think its because Dr Who is only going to have four episodes and that a lot of the team do both, they are having a break from both, although personally I think it would have been better to let us have Torchwood to fill the drought from Dr Who, but its all going to be over in a week :( Although if it's five specials that involve the resurrection of Owen Harper and Toshiko Sato, then I would be all for it.

I loved series two of Torchwood even if I did have to watch it on small screen on the computer since I don't have BBC America were I live  ::) I am looking forward to the DVD's coming out but I will have to wait for them to go on sale before I can purchase them  :-\  I loved Ianto's growth and by the scenes I saw on Doctor Who it looks like Jack might have grown up some to or we can only hope.

She a bit of a fan? My dad like CSI but luckily he doesn't watch all of them. Tell you want the had over here a while ago a progamme called City of Vice it was set in the 1700s it was cool like CSI with powered wigs.

Aw at least you managed to get hold of it. When does it come out, it can't be long its out here and you weren't that far behind us in the airing. Yeah the stories and the characters were better, there was less sex and more story which was good. I think Owen got better since he was dead, was it the love of a good woman? I saw the bit again the other day when he comes back to life and looks at Tosh and then looks away, still wonder what his reaction means. I have recorded them on DVD but I had to fiddle about with it and its not great, I may get the box set if its ever a bargin. It was nice to see the Torchwood crew on Dr Who its a shame it wasn't all of them. Did you know Owen's the only one who hasn't been on Dr Who?

You can say she is a bit of a fan if you want to count watching them almost every single time they are on including reruns which are like mini marathons of 5 or 6 episodes in a row on TNT almost everyday. It has gotten especially bad for us since she has been held up in the house do to surgery on her leg and she is stuck on the couch do to her cast she has to wear. I like CSI myself (the original only)  but this year will be different since they announced William Peterson is leaving the show around I believe mid season  :-\

I agree about Owen seeming better since he was sort of killed but he never really was a problem for me now Gwen on the other hand  ::) I sort of wish they would have killed her off and left Tosh alone (I loved Tosh  :'(). She was my favorite female character on the show and now I have none.  :(

 As part of BBC Radio 4's Big Bang experiment, a special radio episode of Torchwood - 'Lost Souls' will be broadcast on Radio 4 on Wednesday 10 September at 2.15pm.

"Somewhere out there in that chaos of darkness and light, of science and protons, of gods and stars and death... somewhere there's an answer."

The Torchwood Institute was founded by Queen Victoria in 1879 to protect the British Empire against the threat of alien invasion. By 2008, all that remains of the organisation is a small team based in Cardiff. And now, following the tragic deaths of two of their colleagues, the remaining three - Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones - have to protect the human race against another unknown force from the darkness.

Martha Jones, ex-time traveller and now working as a doctor for a UN task force, has been called to CERN - the world's largest particle physics laboratory in Geneva - where they're about to activate the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

The LHC is a particle accelerator which has been built deep underground in a 27km tunnel under Switzerland and France. Well looking at some details of casting for the new series it looks like they have got Tosh and Owen's replacements :( There's a secretary who hacks into something she shouldn't and a junior doctor who both get entwined in Torchwood, While these original characters would be better than recycled ones I'd still rather have T & O back.

I just recently found a site that gives you a sneak peek of pictures and scenes from the third series of Torchwood "Children of Earth" and I can say that I am excited and can't wait for it to start. It is a shame  that we are only getting five episodes for this season  :(

Here a couple of things for the next series. Apparently Tosh isn't frozen like all other personnel but is buried :( according to the Torchwood archive which I have to get.

I haven't been reading this topic because I didn't want any spoilers.  I just saw the season 2 finale and I was wondering if season 3 has started yet?  I get it on BBC America and they show everything late here.

Series three isn't out until next year some time over here.

Has anyone read the latest book out for Torchwood titled "Almost Perfect"  ??? I just wanted to get a review on it to see if it was worth purchasing since I live in the US (prices for the books are around $10.00 here even though they are the size of a paperback  :() I have to be careful with my money so I wanted to know if anyone out there thought it was worth reading.

What I am looking for is if Ianto is pertinent to the story and if it has any Gwen/Jack vibes in it, but mostly I just want to know if it is a good story for Torchwood.

Sorry I haven't had that one as I don't want to think of Torchwood without Tosh and Owen. The story does sound good though, Ianto wakes up in a womans body. On Amazon uk its got 3 five stars and 1 four stars so it looks promising.

Thanks, I will probably have to break down and buy it after Christmas because I do want to read it  ;)  It will be strange and sad reading a book without Tosh and Owen in it with them  :'( If anyone gets it before hand and does read it I would love to hear their thoughts on it  :D

Quick question how good are the books?  I have practicaly all the Dr Who paperbacks and some of them to be honest were rubbish.

They tend to be a bit of a mixture. My favourite one was Twlight Streets.

Well, at least they will be new characters, instead of characters we have already seen from another series. But I would rather have Tosh and Owen back as well.

I did read an article where the actress that played Tosh said she would like to come back one day...so maybe the door is open.

Plus, if it's true that Tosh is buried in the ground and not frozen--wouldn't that be the first Torchwood member they have done that with? Maybe there is something more to that... :-\

Well I heard the hub was going to be blown up in the next series so maybe the grounds safer. Here's a fact the hub is being used in the Dr Who Christmas special as the Cybermens lair.

John Barrowman mentioned in an interview it'll be about Juneish.

Right from what I have read is should be 20th July both is the UK and the USA but who's to say they won't change it. Also there are Torchwood radio plays starting on BBC radio 4 beginning in July.

No during June lol. Although it seems July now. The story will be over five days and its called Children of Earth. Something happens to the children they all stop and I think they say it happened before.

I liked Children of Earth but feel really let down by the ending. I heard that a new series depended on the ratings for this which were pretty good to start with not sure if they have stayed constant. I really hope they make a new series. Personally now I am worried about alien invasion as we only have a pregnant woman to defend us. Jack's got to be back if they do its his show really, I suppose he needs to get his head in gear what with killing his grandson an all. They will need to start from scratch with the team though being three down, I think Lois is a candidate also maybe the woman who was trying to kill them to begin with, now she has had her eyes opened to the government, she wears black and knows how to handle a gun. But even if they do I will still miss the old team RIP Tosh, Owen and Ianto  :'(

I just found out about the death of Ianto and I have to say that I am glad that you guys got to see it first to give me fair warning. I almost pre-ordered the 3rd series and now I am glad I didn't because of this news. Now it is official for me like the creators of Stargate the creators of Torchwood have now ruined another great series that I really enjoyed. Out of all the characters on the show my most favorites (especially Ianto) were killed off and my very least favorite (Gwen) was left standing and even got a happy ending. I hate creators when they think they have to kill characters off to make a show more exciting.

How am I ever going to enjoy my series 1 of Torchwood now knowing the end of Ianto happens in series 3  >:() >:() >:()  :'( :'( :'(  >:() >:() >:() >:() Another show bites the dust for me but I did manage to save $74.00 since I can't see myself buying series 2 or series 3 anytime soon thanks to this rubbish.  >:() :'(

I know three characters down. I've already written a story bringing tosh and owen back now I've got to do it with ianto. Still it makes me feel better.

I am going to continue to read fanfiction with Ianto/Jack (to help me feel better) but I am definitely done with the series with this ending.

If there is a series 4 the only way I would watch it would be if they brought Ianto back and I don't see that happening at all. I will not watch a show with Jack (if he comes back) and Gwen along with a new cast alone because to me the show was Jack and Ianto since I lost Owen and Tosh the season before. I have always thought Gwen was the worst character on TW and she ends up with the happy ending  >:() >:() >:()

I am reading your story on Ianto's return and it is neat so far and I will wait and see were you go with it and how the situation is solved with the amnesia.

I am still upset that they killed the last best thing about Torchwood for me and now I have nothing left to look forward to if TW ever returns. I won't watch it if it is Jack, Gwen and whoever else they replace characters I actually liked in it, so again as far as I am concerned the show ended for me at series 2.
