I don't know if this is the right forum to place this, but we haven't started an OOP Update forum.  I wanted to pass this imformation on asap.  I got another email from Tom Breyer today.  He said the OOP update set will be released on December 14th.  He does not have a price for a case yet.  I sent him an email asking him if he has any imformation as to what the cards will be in this set.  I will post any imformation he sends me when it becomes available.  Yay!!! We finally have a definite date.

Well, it's as definite as any Artbox release date can be. ::)  Thanks for the info!  We'll keep this thread here until we're ready to start up a section for OOTPU. :)

I've gone over an old list of inserts that was compiled from info released by Artbox and NSU Magazine.  There are some inserts that were not included in OOTP that could possibly be included in OOTPU.

I ran across this picture on ebay.  The dealer is accepting pre-orders for OOP update boxes.  I think it's what the OOP update boxes will look like.

I think I'll just buy the Fiennes autograph outright if he signs. With the big 3 having already signed for the first OoTP set, I don't think there would be much I would want from the update (huge, astounding surprises excepted of course *cough Malfoy/Snape/Bellatrix cough*

I still have a feeling they are going to save Snape and Malfoy for Half-Blood Prince, if they can get them, though I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have them sign sooner.

I'm hoping for Voldemort, Hagrid, Bellatix, Umbridge...and of course, Snape and Malfoy, unless they are waiting. Oh, and Molly and Arthur.

Props I'd like to see: Badges, either "Weasley Is Our King", or one of Ron's or Hermione's prefect badges. Maybe Luna's hat.  ;D

(Perhaps the DVD will have deleted scenes, or one of the above might have been semi-hidden in the film as an easter egg for readers. Though I'm sure Warner Bros wouldn't let Artbox use them.)

They might let Artbox use them.  No one seems to know where the Ministry Munchies bags were seen.  I specifically looked for them throughout the movie, but didn't spot them.

I'd love to also see a Hagrid and Severus Snape auto.  A Voldemort & Bellatrix Lestrange auto would be very cool too.  Probably too much to wish for but I'll wish for them anyway  ;D

I'll put my bet in for a Helena Bonham Carter autograph in the OOTPU set.  She's signed for Planet of the Apes and did she also sign for Charlie and the Choc. Factory?  As for Voldemort, Hagrid and Snape, it would be major news with them, but I hope so for the autograph seekers on the Shack.

I agree, Kelly. I'm really thinking Bellatrix is a go for the update set. It would be a perfect time for that signature as well.  :)

A supposed month to go, and still no details? Is this normal?

Completely normal.  There have been some HP sets where we barely had any information at all until the day members started to get their orders and post their breakdowns.

I wouldn't say that it's normal, just that it's standard Artbox procedure.  No distributor, dealer, or HP collector is happy about it. :P  Other manufacturers have lists available in advance, keep their websites up-to-date, and even put on their sites pictures of the costumes before they're cut for cards.

At the very least, there should be a P1 promo available by now. ::)

It's about time they sent out the promos. ::)  Now we need a list of inserts and some sample pictures.  I just don't understand why they think the best way to do business is to not release info about the set.  If they want it to sell out, then they should let us know about the goodies we could pull! >:()

Problem is, they have no reason to give us the information.

The cards always sell out anyway, so they have no motivation to change the way things are done.

I admit I've ordered some already, even though I have a policy against ordering blind.  Can't go without either...

With a month to go til the issue date for OOPU, I finally broke down and ordered three cases from tomunique. I also asked him if he had any information he could pass on to us.  He didn't have much, but what he told me is very interesting.  According to Tom Dan Radcliffe is going to sign a second autograph card with another person.  He promised to email more information when available.  Ooh what fun we can have speculating who the second person going to be.  I'm hoping for Voldemort. >:D

thanks for the info Terry.  Wow!!! I just going  :o= that it's true (which would be so awesome).  The only mutli-auto cards that I'm aware of is the POAU triple, the GOFU quad, and the 3D Krum/Diggory.  I guess the George & Fred auto too.

In any case, hopefully ArtBox will release some more info soon (as unlikely as that may be).

There is also a Crabbe/Goyle and Vernon/Dudley dual from the 3D set as well :)

I was just reading the comments and saw that there was going to be a new Daniel Redcliffe auto whth someone else, and i was thinking maybe it would be him and Cho. Since they had a fling in the movie...but then again we already have a Cho auto!

We've had 5 HArry autos, so a Cho-Harry dual is very possible! ;)

Tom Breyer emailed me a copy of the press release from Artbox.  It's dated November 16.  I wonder how long it's been available.

I'm sorry about some of the cards being hard to see.  They were that way in the orignal copy of the release. The card under Bellatrix's autograph card shows of picture of Azkaban Prison.  It may be the prison uniform card.  Tom said to look for something special with the binder. He also promised more information next week.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Hmm... I have a question -

With the update packs, don't they usually include the autographs that were in the original release as well, but as actual cards, not redemptions?

I've ordered one case from Tom... my wallet is shrinking away from me (or rather, my savings account), but how many cases would everyone else suggest getting?

Artbox has never taken leftover autos from the first release for a movie and inserted them into update packs.  They do use the leftover inserts (autos, costumes, props, filmcards, and case loaders) for SDCC mystery boxes/bags.

Since we might get more info next week, you might want to wait until then to decide whether to increase your order.

I love the idea of a HBC auto but I am disappointed with the props that have been announced.  More doilies and curtains  :(.  I know this is a pattern with now with the HP sets but I do wish they wouldn't keep repeating props - as you may have guessed props are my favourite cards  ;D

And the coustumes are getting old, too. I mean shirts, trousers, robes, cloaks....
What ever happened to Dobby's sock, the hats that Herminone made for the house elves, 
Mr and Mrs Weasley's clothing, etc. Was everything CGI?
There's got to be something else, don't you think?

You folks are right come to think of it.  I guess ArtBox isn't very creative in that it's the same props but, at the same time, I've not collected from all the sets yet.  Something like Dobby's sock would be so cool (or something unique like that).

I also heard from another distributor about the double auto (Radcliffe/Leung), which is a bonus.  Haven't heard anything about a Voldemort/Dumbledore card that was mentioned earlier.

I would agree with what was said above, Draco is quite prominent in Half-Blood Prince, so it would make sense for him to sign for that set.

Didn't Artbox tell someone way back when that they had a cauldron and test tubes for the Sorcerers Stone set?  It kind of makes me wonder.  :-\

Is this a new release date?

The listing says the dealer will ship approximately December 21.  The seller must have revised the description.  The last I heard from Tom, the release date is December 14.  We don't know when Artbox will ship the cases, but maybe someone can post that info.

Thanks so much terryweasley  :D  I'm so excited as we get closer to the anticipated launch date.  I better place my order with Tom Breyer too before my fellow shackers buy it all up  ;D

The double costume cards are very nice.  I don't believe I've ever seen this format (in terms of costume cards) before.  Perhaps a few from POA and MM would be the closest.  Anyway, the Deatheater double prop and the Dumbledore/Umbridge are super nice.

Some of the movie's costumes and props are part of a special Hogwarts Express train exhibit.  The exhibit included Lucius Malfoy, Snape, Umbridge, and Luna costumes, plus Voldemort's wand, parts of Umbridge's office (table, chair, and kitty plates), and Educational Decree No. 98.  Maybe some of the duplicate items used in the film will show up in OOTPU. :)

I'm interested in the crystal case cards.  The press release had the image, but I'm not able to capture it.  I think terryweasley posted images of previous press releases.

The auto line-up is strong, with not that many repeat signers.  Since people are expecting this comment from me, I might as well say that I'm disappointed by the lack of Sirius costumes and autos. :-\  The flying memo prop sounds great and I'm interested in the cauldron and test tube double props.

The Felton card is signed, so that's good news, but I hope the double autos are returned signed in time to be inserted in packs.  Redemptions are a pain for everyone.

I really like the costumes and the props are cool--The flying memos look fun, the potions props, and the Dark Arts pages. Umbridge's memo paper could be cool--if it's what I'm thinking, the swatches will be pink and some will feature a kitten's face.  :)

There were two different Sirius costumes, each with multiple pieces.  I can't believe Warner Bros. wouldn't part with one piece, or even give Artbox some of the material used to create the costumes.

The info about case incentives was released a couple of weeks ago:

Ci1 Grimmauld Place fabric prop (2-case)
Ci2 Dark Arts book covers prop (5-case)
Ci3 Prisoner costume (10-case)
Ci4 Dumbledore and Umbridge double costume (25-case)

So, the Dark Arts book pages will be pack-inserted and the book cover is an incentive.  I like that they made the two cards.

5-case incentive is the Dark Arts Book Cover

10-case incentive is prisoner costume

25-case is Dumbledore/Umbridge costume

Oh good. That means we should see two inserts per box and one box that has three. There are some props I like, but I think the autos are the best out of this set as well.   As for the costumes, other than Lucius, I would have liked to see more of the adult characters.  What happened to Sirius, Mr and Mrs Weasley, or Tonks, or Bellatrix?  It would be nice to have some costumes from characters that do not have costumes in other sets yet.

And is there any reason there are two more Daily Prophets in this set?  Wasn't two in the original OOTP set enough?  Don't get me wrong, I love the DP props, but this just seems a little like overkill to me.

Oh well, I am still excited about the set. I have an itch to open some boxes :)

I also wish they'd done more Sirius... it seems a little odd, with the character death in this movie, that they haven't... maybe they'll do another for the last movie?

I wonder if maybe Artbox does have a Sirius costume piece, but it's being held for Memorable Moments 2 or HP3D 2. ::)  It was ridiculous that neither POA nor POAU had a Sirius costume (considering he was the title character), but the card showed up in the 3D set.  Now we have two OOTP sets, and again no costume.  Something isn't right.

i think you will find that once they have finished all the sets they will bring out a best of collection with something from each movie

I'm sure there will be many compilations sets once the movies are done.  They'll definitely make MM2 and HP3D 2 for the last three movies, and there will be more sets.  My problem is that I think costumes and autos for major characters, like Sirius and Snape, should be included in the movie set and not held aside for a retrospective set. >:(


I don't think that's a sample.  If they had, in hand, the cards with the signatures at the time they produced the press release, that's the image they would have used.  Hopefully, there will be no redemptions for this set.  I can understand why they happen for a set that's timed with the release of a movie (when there's little leeway for delays), but when it's an update set (and one that has all ready been delayed), there should be enough time to get the autos before the set is packed and shipped.

I checked with Tom.  He is sold out of cases as is Artbox.  He said Artbox cut his order too.  The date is still December 14 with arrival date later.  I wonder if that is what the December 21 date is I've been seeing on ebay.

I can't believe Artbox cut Tom's order!  I would think he is their biggest buyer, and if I recall, this is not the first time they did something like this. Tom must not be very happy at the moment.

I heard the allocation talk as a rumor a couple of days ago but (sadly) it's apparently a reality now.  I also ordered from Breyer and wonder how bad the the actual cut is (I heard from a dealer that it may not be too drastic but you never know).

I don't understand why there ever has to be an allocation.  The manufacturer knows how many cases will be produced.  When the total number of orders reaches that number, then the product is sold out.  Why would they initially accept more orders than the amount of product?

I'm far from an expert but my understanding (at least for some card products) it depends upon how many inserts/autos they actually get back from the actors/actresses vs. what they initially anticipate in terms of an aggregate.  I think they always aim high but, as I said, this is only my understanding on how it works for at least certain products.

It's frustrating all the same.

Artbox obviously does not wait for the autos to come back before figuring how many inserts they will have.  If they don't have the auto back, they just print redmeptions instead.  And hey, if they did wait, those of us with Bremmer autos from the 3D set wouldn't still be waiting for the actor to sign and send the autos back to Artbox.

I heard the same thing from Tom Breyer yesterday and from my local retailer (who also has a master account w/ Artbox).  Not too sure how bad Breyer was hit but my local retailer has informed me that my order is being significantly affected (perhaps by 50%).  Apparently Artbox is producing less of the Update than the regular OoTP set.

Looks like lots of people will be on  :ebay: hunting for cards.

Artbox is producing 600 cases of OOTPU (they made 700 for OOTP).

Tom didn't say I wasn't getting my three cases.  I'm glad I sent him an email about my payment.  I don't want to over pay him.  I can't believe the cards will be here next week.  I'm getting excited. One hundred less boxes that sounds good.  I've been worried I shouldn't have bought the three boxes.  Hopefully I'll get some good prices on  :ebay: for my cards.

you're lucky terryweasley & hopefully you get your full order.  Breyer cut me back quite a bit but I've found several local sources who are only a little more expensive than Tom.  My only problem is the ability to obtain enough product to satisfy "me"  ;D

I'm getting my three cases.  Paid him Friday.  I must have been a good girl this year, and Santa is sending me an early Christmas gift.

I talked to Tom yesterday. He mentioned that he had a cancellation for an order of five boxes. Yes, boxes, not cases, and that is all he had. He sold out of OOTPU. He has probably sold those five boxes by now.

It depends on where you are in the East Coast. UPS predicts the 20th for Tom's address or Potomac's, the 21st for mine because I'm not near a truck hub. December 21 is a whole 10 days after the DVD will be released and is getting too too close for Holiday ordering, shipping, and receipt!

Though I wonder if it really will be "later", or if it will be like the main OOTP, where they shipped earlier and we were sworn to secrecy on what was inside until the official release date. (Of course, maybe Artbox decided not to do that again.) I guess we'll find out after they start arriving out West!

Allocation as severe as we're hearing is puzzling. 600 cases versus 700 isn't a huge reduction for an update set. Maybe they decided that their biggest customers had been getting too high a % of the print run? That doesn't seem to be a very big reward for loyalty and guaranteed cash flow, which are two of the most important things for a card company.

I made an offer of $490/case for 2 cases, and he accepted, and $30 shipping for the 2, so it came out to be $505/case, so if anyone is interested, possibly he will accept a similar offer :)    I think that with Tom Felton and Helena Bonham Carter, its going to be a pretty popular set...but we shall see :)  And yes, I am sure I will pull some nice variants to offer up for sale :)

I think when I buy a case from Tom they are drop shipped direct from Artbox.  I think that's the way it is with cases.  I don't think they go to him and he sends them out to me.  That's why the shipping is so reasonable. of course, I live in the US.  It may be different for UK

Sorry, I'm kinda new to this so forgive my stupidity... but what does 'drop shipped' mean? Just that it's delivered right to the door? What if someone isn't home to accept it?

It means that the manufacturer ships directly to the case buyer, instead of shipping it to the distributor who then ships to the buyer.  The person getting cases saves money by not having to pay twice for shipping.

You know, being so close to the holidays, I doun't doubt a delay like that. I believe they come from overseas somewhere and we all know that mail can be slower this time of year. This sucks :(

The cards are manufactured in Taiwan, so there could be a shipping or manufacturing delay.

I've never looked to see where they're made but, given that the cards are coming from Taiwan, I guess it makes sense that there could be delays.  Kind of frustrating with all the anticipation and my own impatience  :P

It can be different from one release to the next. Because of the huge amount of business Tom does with Artbox, he tries to get them to ship cases direct to the buyer so that we can all avoid the costs of multiple shipments. Artbox is not obligated to do so, and they can change their minds any time. But for the last few cases I've bought, Tom was successful in having them shipped directly to me from San Clemente CA (not Taiwan ...), but I also had my orders in fairly early.

Previously Artbox has tried to ship on a schedule that cards are in the hands of _distributors_ in time for them to send them to the buyers to arrive near the official release date. If buyers (or distributor-dealers) receive a direct shipment before the release date and choose to start posting cards for sale early, it can annoy Artbox and increase costs for the whole hobby.

I placed my order about a month before the December 14 date.  My email from Tom mentioned I was closer to the deliver location than her was.  I live in Savannah, Georgia so I would be closer to San Clemente, California.  My boxes must be coming from Artbox.  I hope they decide to ship early.  I was planning to give some of them as Christmas gifts.  Thanks for the information.

I hope you're having a late Christmas celebration. Artbox' letter to Tom from Wednesday said they would ship on December 20, and official release date is December 31. According to UPS, you should expect your case from San Clemente by the end of the day Friday December 28. Four business days in transit, plus two for the weekend and apparently two for holidays, makes eight.

Augusta isn't one of the UPS hubs, so they quote me an extra in-transit day. With holidays, UPS Ground which leaves California on December 20 is projected to reach me on ... January 2. Yikes, a drop-shipment that takes 13 days (with several long snoozes in depots) and doesn't even make the release date. If the package goes as predicted, it will arrive at a warehouse 20 miles away from my house on the 28th, then spend 29th-30th-31st-1st there digesting holiday egg nog.

I think this is a job for The Shack rescue team :rofl:.  Do you remember when we were trying to persuade Anna to raid the warehouse for one of the sets as she lived just down the road  :rofl:.  This must be so frustrating for you - at least I know they are still thousands of miles away!

But I can't say I am too disappointed.  After the delays on every other set I never actually believed they would reach us this year  ::)

For me it became a moot point when it turned out they wouldn't be arriving in time for base-set Christmas giftees.

It's weird dealing with UPS. It's not the first time when a case has arrived at their same-county-as-me warehouse on a Friday, after the last trucks have left the depot with deliveries, and the package was destined to sit over the weekend. This is the first time that two holidays have been added in.

If they try to deliver to my residence and can't leave a package, I can go online and tell them I'll pick it up at the depot. But you can't tell them that in advance; they have to make one delivery attempt first. I'll be out of town anyway this time, so all I'll "lose" is a couple of days-off opening packs just because they take Monday the 31st as a holiday. I'll have to settle for watching minor football bowl games and overdoing the egg nog. (Actually, I'll spend a few moments watching everybody else post their breakdowns and checking for case clusters.  >:D )

I'm disappointed with the delay... but I'll have by boxes by the end of the day on the 28th.  ;D 

Does anyone know when artbox will post the information regarding odds of getting certain cards? Do they ever?

Artbox doesn't post that info anywhere (its website hasn't been updated in over a year), but it's printed on the packs.  The odds for OOTPU should be:

Costume card 1:24 packs (1 per box or 10 per case)
Auto 1:48 packs (5 per case)
Prop card 1:80 packs (3 per case)
FilmCards 1:80 (3 per case)
Foil chase cards 1:4.8 packs (5 per box)
1 box topper per box
1 case topper per case

Unless there are dud boxes (no inserts in a box), nine boxes per case will have two premium inserts and one box will have three.

Jeff, UPS won't deliver on December 31?  That's when I was expecting my boxes. :'(

I'm pretty sure the only days UPS will not deliver are Christmas Day and New Year's Day. They should be delivering on the 31st...that's when I'm hoping for mine as well.  ;) :o=

I started sticking in all of the zip codes that I could think of from people here and over on another forum, plus some of the key distributors. Everybody else in the eastern U.S. is quoted 4 days in transit with expected delivery on the 28th. I'm quoted 5 days in transit and the 2nd. That 1 extra day would turn into 5 ...

I think my OOTP cards arrived in 4 transit days, though. Sometimes the routing goes through different hubs, and it might find its way to the local depot before the trucks head out for delivery. They're pretty good about working late during the holiday season. But I stuck in their *own* zip code for delivery, and it still projected January 2 even if they were just driving across the street.

Now if I could just remember the secret voicemail code to get past the pre-recorded options, and connect to a real person, I could throw myself on their mercy.  :-\

That's right -- Artbox shipped the cases yesterday. :)   Maybe this will alleviate the delivery problems around the end of the year.

It might depend on which part of Kansas. KS is just over the line that predicts "4 days in transit" for UPS Ground from Artbox, which means delivery guaranteed by Thursday. But CO and OK are in the 3-day region, predicted for Monday. If the trucks make good time and they work hard to deliver earlybecause of the looming holiday ...

I think we figured out the UPS Ground schedule. The 24th is a semi-holiday, where UPS delivers but doesn't pick up Ground packages. The evenings/nights of 24th and 25th are holidays for the truckers. So the 26th is a full work day for deliveries, but UPS doesn't expect that there will be any Ground packages to deliver locally on that date because nothing would have arrived in the depots. So one day of extra "distance" means three days of extra waiting.

Generally they don't offer the "Ground" option for transporting cards over the pond. Those brown trucks don't look very spiffy with pontoons. The good news is, the airplanes don't take as many days off during the celebratory season, so some folks might get stuff before a few pockets of 'ol USA.  8)

Only distributors can order directly from Artbox.  Artbox also doesn't ship box orders, but they will ship some case orders to collectors who have ordered through certain distributors.

A letter should go out with cases saying when the official street date is and warn people that they should not list or show pictures until that date. With that said, I LOVE the picture on the George costume with him and Ron.

The seller has listed more cards, and the good news is that the Draco, Tonks, Fudge, Bellatrix, Kreacher, and Dudley auto aren't redemptions!  I just have to get a Tonks auto. :D

I believe one of the press releases had a list of cards, but their numbers were not mentioned. We just need to wait to see the numbers once everyone opens their boxes.

There are only three autos I haven't seen on eBay or heard about yet -- Mad-Eye, Mrs. Figg, and Harry/Cho.  If anyone can confirm whether these cards have signatures or are redemptions, please let me know. :)

The cards were not supposed to be listed until the 31st and from what I understand, Artbox didn't want scans circulating until then.  I think this is a very stupid policy.  What better way to develop interest in the set (and sales for the dealers who keep Artbox in business) than to let collectors see the cards? ::)

I agree. At the last show I was at that Artbox attended, they had the 3D cards on display (not all of them, just the autos). They would not let me take pictures because the set was not officially released yet. I believe someone else managed to get a picture that we were able to see, but they do not like them being shown until a certain date. I agree that I get more excited when I get to see them ahead of time.

These cards have been sold out for quite some time now, so i doubt that Artbox feels it needs the publicity. With the limited number of boxes available and the ever increasing interest in Harry Potter Memorabilia the only folks that may benefit from this is the distributors and retailers who might to able to raise there prices. I myself prefer to speculate and look forward to leaks concerning what are in the next set of cards, and this probably keeps the prices down that consumers have to pay for boxes.

Yes, there is. It is called Diagon Alley (if you are talking about Potter cards). However, since the official release date is not until December 31st, you might want to wait to list your trade. This way, you can be sure that most people waiting for boxes will have them opened by then. Good luck!

There are six case toppers.  The images are Harry, Hermione, and Voldemort, and each one is available in two tints, purple and yellow.  We do have a complete (or nearly complete) card list, so you can see the card numbers, names, and print runs.  If anyone knows what card numbers (CT1, CT2, CT3) were assigned to the case loaders, please let me know. :)
