There is a picture of some HP costumes on display at a gallery.  One of the costumes is a complete, uncut Hermione sweater.  I'm sure that the costume department had more than one set of clothing for the different scenes, but it's made me wonder whether the swatches in the costume cards really do come from costumes that were worn during filming.

Does anyone know how Artbox obtained the costumes and props, and how we can know for sure that they really were used in the movie?  It's something I've wondered ever since I found out that LOTR costume cards are made from leftover fabric, and not the actual garments worn during filming.

Well we have to trust here of course - and of course no one pays £300 for a chocolate frog card of unknown origin, but I really do think these are official props.

With LOTR somehow PJ managed to get all the props and costumes as part of payment for his work, that's why at the end of shooting they gave just one or two props to each cast member. I think PJ would like to keep the costumes etc in a museum - rather like the exhibition that is travelling the world but in a permanant home!

As far as I know HP is not under any similar sort of contract, and apart from the robes there are few particularly "special" clothes used, nothing as beautiful as the LOTR costumes!

ya i think they had a few of each costume and that all were used in the movie but that Artbox were only given one of these costumes.in LOTR there were seven versions of each costume in each height and one set for stuntmen so there are loads of costumes that get used in a film

Even so, it would feel like sacrilege cutting up the LOTR costumes! I could never do it myself :-\ Thats why I don't collect the LOTR costume cards - except for Elrond, bbecause I love Hugo Weaving so ;)

ya but the cards are made from unused costume material so no costumes are distroyed at all .which is both good and bad

I would think that there were more than 1 pink sweater, for both Emma and stunt double ....
I have a Permission form prop card of which there are only 100. When you are watching the movie note the scene where Harry is holding on to his permission form. McGonagall is holding a whole bunch of these forms.

Plus if you notice Harry's permission form is folded up and in fairly rough shape, and all the ones that I have seen have looked like they have never been folded or anything.  I am sure they printed up multiples of much of those types of props along with many of the costumes.  So how many of them were actually touched by actors we may never know, that is why I prefer the autographs myself.
