Does anyone collect Star Wars cards?

I haven't but always have loved Star Wars and the upcoming Heritage product sound like it could be the next big thing!

Anyone know details I know they said tier 1 cast member auto's.

I think it's going to be a sensational set, with the combination of old-fashioned card design, autographs & sketch cards. I've got 5 cases on order & am seriously considering increasing it.

As to the autographs, only yesterday Topps announced the first 2 signers, who are..............

Mark Hamill & James Earl Jones  :o :o :o

First time Mark Hamill has signed & its always good to have the voice of DV represented. Further signers will be announced shortly.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to this set....the retro look appears a tad ropey at first but the inserts sound amazing....anyone seen thos sketch cards of classic trilogy characters??? Awesome!! I'm contemplating a case purchase....any tips???

Do you guys think that these cards would be a good investment I already spent a great deal on HP POA update, but that is part investment part personal enjoyment!

If the boxes are only going to go up in price after release it may be worth buying a case or more?

There are a lot more star wars fans than LOTR or HP that is for sure! ???

I would never recommend purchasing a coloured piece of card for possible investment purposes. Only buy what you enjoy. If it increases in value, all well & good. If not, you have a card you wanted anyway.

To an extent I would agree, but I would also say that if it is a hobby for you to collect that you would want to make a wise choice for your $$$'s.  Serious collectors (I somewhat view myself as one - mostly hockey) are wise to consider the market for the product before they buy boxes and see the prices fall to ultra low levels.  I have purchased high $$$ boxes and got the same cards I could get in a $40 box.  That in my opinion was a bad investment!  

I am sure you have had some regretful buys also.

I pulled an $800 card out of a $20 box once!   On the flip side I have pulled many $3 cards out of a $100 box.

Worst case senario I aim to buy a little extra and either open it or sell half to cover the expense on the other end.  I love the card collecting hobby, but I hate to waste money on bad products.

But I get your point CJD and it is good advice, if I buy a case and open half and the boxes go up I can hopefully cover my cost - just wondering what you think as I have not collected star wars (yet).  Presell is only good pricing if boxes go up not down!

Hmm 28 sketch card artists and 2 hideously popular autographs - yes this looks a good set but surely you guys can no longer complain at just potter for being hard to complete!!!

I have very recently started collecting Star Wars cards from Decipher and Wizards of the Coast not the Topps cards.  

The new Topps set looks like cards I purchased as a kid growing up - they went with this retro look.  The Auto and Sketch cards look and sound great!

Now Roz and Mark - we are all waiting for you both to view the Star Wars movies!   ;)

The Decipher & Wizards Star Wars cards are very much like the LOTR's cards by Decipher where you have regular and Foil images.  They did a great job on these by the way!  I love the X-Wing Fighter and have been collecting images of this and other space craft from the movies.   :)

Carrie Fisher has agreed to sign!!

Considering this set is timed with the release of the original trilogy on DVD Topps have gotten 3 of the best signers they could!

I hope they get more, but if they don't I doubt I will be disappointed.

does anyone know the insert rates? or the sketch cards?

Well, in the Clone Wars set (which is awesome btw) you were guaranteed a full chase set of die-cut stickers, I pulled 4 out of 12 Battle-Motion lenticular cards plus Topps guaranteed 1 sketch card per box. With this many signers that could increase to 2 sketches per box but only time will tell.....

Come on, its Topps, that could only mean they are doubling the production of the product! I bet 1 sketch per box!  But we can hope!

I thought some of the Star Wars fans might find it ironic that I work for Lucas Business Systems!   Yes that is right George Lucas Sr.  started the company (star wars George Lucas' Father (not Darth Vader)).   If you have scene American Graffiti (I haven't yet) George Lucas first movie it is supposed to be pulled from Modesto California (where I live).  Yes if you can believe it they still cruise down the streets to pick up chic's (I don't - no seriously I don't) on weekends.

So anyway one of my bosses is George Lucas (star wars) nephew.   He did tell me about the 50th birthday party he went to for George, but that is a whole other story!  Just a tad bit of trivia (and no I can't get anyone an autographed light saber). ::) :'( :P

In case others are tracking this product, presell prices are going way up and there is a month still til the product releases.  These boxes are going to be hot!

I wonder what the production run is?

Those auto cards though ... *groans* .... we're a real 'Star Wars' household and my son has been a BIG fan of the films for years so I would hesitate to even show this link to him let alone anything on eBay!!  ::) :-\
My son has a couple of SW promo items suspended from his bedroom ceiling ... a large X-Wing Fighter and a large Tie-Fighter and also has a huge poster of Darth Maul from the Sunday Mirror over his bed!! ;D


That pic of Luke though *swoon*  ;D I remember the thrill of seeing the films the first time around and Luke scoring the 'hit' to blow the Death Star to smithereens!!!  ;D :P

I would love to get a set of these cards ... doubt it will happen though if the pre-sells are getting as expensive as you say  :-[

According to your post on NSU (I prefer it here  :P) Chris has said something about no bubble gum in the packs.

How do they know which boxes / cases are destined for the UK. Can we get some clarification on this please.

I'm guessing the product sourced from CI & therefore Topps uk have been specially packed without the gum ? Whats the problem with it anyway ?

Any Customs & Excise experts here please ?

So yes it's true. I am not sure whether that means that if you buy from Potomac you will have them (they will not mention on the customs form that they have bubble gum in I am sure because it won't cross their mind).

As yet it's unclear whether it will only be the UK/Cards Inc packs that come without gum... so your potomac allocation might be ok CJD, I'll be round for a bubble gum fest at the end of September  ;D

I've just dropped Potomac a line, asking how they will be describing this product on their shipping documentation.

Bubblegum fest maybe, or I could open a new line of business by flogging the gum separately on eBay. Looks like I might be moving into the confectionary market. No point, no-one eats sweets & chocolate anymore, do they ? LOL

Looks liek another goldmine for Topps. I thank my lucky stars that I have no interest in Star Wars whatsoever ;) I don't know anything about the storylines as I have never seen any of the movies (I fell asleep after 15 min of Episode 1 (2? 3? - whatever the first modern one was) so that does not count ;D

Had an answer and it looks like everything should be ok from a documentation point of view.

Incidently, they just informed me that they are now out of stock of the hobby product and if they manage to find another supply, the price will be considerably higher.

sorry if i coursed any worry but I was told by Cards Inc that the binders would no longer be available and the packs would not have any gum due to EU food stuffs rules blah blah blah thats all I know and so i told Roz and what do you know 2 minutes later she has told the world which was fine by me I jokingly said she stole my news so she deleted the info and then I had to go out so thats what is going on here  ;D

You must start with watching Star Wars (the one from way back when (78?), the recent ones have nothing on the old ones.  And the special effects for way back when were so far advanced!  You won't be disappointed in the old school movies.

starting to really look forward to this set but i wish they would give out more info there is some this time but it don't make it easy to decide how much stuff to pre order

Potomac has not had preorder available for a while on this.  And I also preorder 2 cases from one vendor for $450 each case and his preorder price is now $600 a case!  Just a week and a half later.

If it is 1 sketch card per box with auto's mixed in I think it will be a HUGE product, but then again we probably won't know anything til the first person gets there boxes!

I read in another site for Star Wars cards that it will be one sketch card per box, but no idea on the auto list (other than Fisher, Hamil, and J EJ) and the insert ratio on those.  

I sure hope they don't do a LOTR ROTKU and make it a sketch or auto that sucked!

I agree. But I have to admit Topps do print to order so print runs are rarely limited. But they do usually have a lot of cards signed... PJ was contracted to do more but didn't have the time/inclination...

so hopefully they won't be *that* rare, they will still be shockingly expendive though I am sure

We were just told by our distributor that apparently for Star wars Heritage there is going to be a first and second wave of product ::)

Have you heard any word if there are going to be more auto's.

well I don't know if i like the idea of two waves with Return of the King they did that and there were just 3 different autos in the second wave all it really suceeded in doing was raising the number of base sets out there

I just hope that we all get a shot at  the three autos advertised in the boxes that we have ordered and they are not split between the two waves
I will be quite angree if i miss out because i pre ordered

I have to say I hope it ain't true

and if it is true, I'll have to hope I get the wave with fisher and mark in it - even if I don't get the autos I'd like a bash at it  ;)

2 boxes because I eblieve as soon as I see all 3 movies (we have a marathon arranged with some friends) I will be addicted... some believe I will egt it as badly as LOTR. I don't believe it!

I haven't been that fond of the last two (which actually are prequels)  although they were ok but had to build the story.

Seeing the movies for the first time from the 70's early 80's may seem like silly special effects, although for that time they were incredible, look forward to hearing what you think about them.
Has the Yak King seen them before?

According to the UK distributor who is 99% of the source of our knowledge ;) rumours of relic cards have been greatly exaggerated... in fact plucked out of thin air!

From the sounds of it only different sketches will be split into the 2 waves so far but only time will tell the whole story

I will be pissed if its not 1 sketch per box and at least one auto per case of "top tier" cast membersf

I have heard things but nothing is confirmed.

For you cards inc resellers/buyers it looks like 90% of their orders will be fulfilled with wave one which is nice - it looks like wave 2 will be rare in the UK  ;)

This wave 1 wave 2 thing could really ruin this set.  If they put the big 2 auto's in wave 1 and other less valuable ones in wave 2.....argggg!

I have 3 cases ordered and I will most likely be at the mercy of the dealers.

Of course they will send you the crappier of the 2 waves!

Sounds like Topps lack of info on this set means that they are going to screw this one up and don't want people to know, so they won't try to pull out (I realize preorder is final, but I am sure they don't want all there dealers burning the phones up with complaints)

so autographs 1 in 3 cases roughly and and you need to get a hamil your looking at 1 in 24 cases wow that is going to be difficult and expensive

lets apply some maths with the stated odds if we say that mark hamil signed 100 cards and extrapulate from there as a test on the odds to see how much is out there i make it that

there would be 18,955 boxes or 2369 cases

I have to say that i think this set will still sell well but there will only be a few happy people (apart from topps racking in the cash) with such high odds of a hamill card i can't see collectors rushing out to buy 24 + cases to get one and with the prices they will sell for on ebay i think only the rich or extremely lucky will be having one of those autos. As for the top level of sketches being so rare you would have to buy a minimum of 18 cases to get the full set of sketches

It's a bit of fun anyway, they are nice... I bet they don't make the figures so nicely these days.

I will be getting 1 of my 3 cases of SW Heritage on Wed the 29th!  The other two will probably take a week to get to me from the East Coast.

Has anyone else got their boxes yet or when are you expecting them?

The UK release is supposed to be the 27th. I think that will be the day dealers can pick them up - those that opt to have them shipped free will probably get them the 28th and then will ship them on to customers!

... when you've all opened them I'd love to see some sketches!

Well never mind i contacted cards inc today and it looks like the shipment is delayed getting over to the UK and they are now expecting them Friday or maybe Monday so I don't think we will see many UK cards till about Tuesday / Wednesday next week really

Just picked up one of my cases tonight!

6 boxes into the 8 box case and 3 very nice sketch cards and 3 not so impressive!  Hope to post some images of my sketch cards this weekend!

I have been away for 4 days and I was really hoping they would be out by now :(

I know I'm extremely last on getting these, I see a few boxes on Ebay. I would like to get a few boxes to see if I can get some cool sketch cards or auto cards, what does anybody think? How much should I pay for the boxes?
