I picked it up at 9:15 AM & finished it by 3PM...

I cried - scared the cats... was surprised by how many deaths there were - but it WAS a battle after all...

Loved so many tie-ins with previous books - both events & characters...

WOW!

I'll have to read it again later this week after it sinks in & I've read more comments, reviews, and articles...

I'm not nearly as sad that it's the last book as I thought I'd be really which astonishes me...

GEEEZ!!! You all are fast readers!!! Jules...I read like your husband!!  ;)

Bless him, it will take him a good couple of weeks to read it - you have NO idea how hard it's going to be for me and the young jedi not to say too much within his earshot as neither of us wants to spoil it for him! :-\
I started reading at 1am and read till 4am ... went to bed and slept in late (YAY!!) and picked the book back up around 2pm ... food and potty break around 7pm for half an hour or so and then finished reading around 9.15pm.
I didn't rush reading it either, so I might sit back down and re-read tomorrow it so I can absorb all the details I might have missed reading it today.  ;) ;D

Just finished it - thankfully it rained all day yesterday so I didn't go out and managed to read most of the day instead.

Wow.  Just brilliant.  Couldn't put it down.  Can't wait to see the film  ;D

I've started a post-DH specific thread here:
http://www.theyakshack.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5415.0/topicseen.html

I wasn't sure if this was what Graham intended to do with this thread or whether he just wanted to chivvy everyone along ;) but just to be on the safe side...

Finished it about half an hour ago, despite the mother in law coming for Sunday lunch. I feel drained and both happy and sad. Glad so many things were explained, can't wait for the film.

Finished it earlier today....loved it!!!   Would have like a longer epilogue after seven books to track more of my favorite characters, but its all good :)

Just finished; had to squeeze it in around a heap of other things....teaching high school kids at the moment, so needed to finish it before anyone spoilt it for me!

I purchased two copies - one for my wife and one for me!  We both finished and thought it was one outstanding book!   :)  I loved all the tie ins and the Epilogue.  Plenty of room if JKR wants to pick up the storyline in the future.   :o=

So come on, who else has finished the book?  I can't wait to hear some more theories on what actually happened  ;D.  And for all you slow coach readers I would like to point out that my mother (who is advancing in years) has ploughed through the first four books in just over two weeks and is currently knee deep in the OotP   At this rate I am going to have to surrender The Half Blood Prince which is currently by my bed begging to be re-read  ;)

I have a question...

What happened to Stan Shunpike? He was flying as a death eater while under their control, I know. But, what happened to him?

If I missed it, let me know...this all happened right around Hedwig's death and I got a little sidetracked.  :(

Wasn't Stan under the Imperious Curse at one stage  :-\.  If he survived the final battle he probably just went back to the night bus and picked his pimples  :-X ;D

Yes, he was under the Imperious Curse...I remember Harry didn't want to hit him with a spell of any kind because he would fall to his death. I was just wondering what happened to him after that attack on Harry and the Order...did the Death Eaters continue to keep him under their control? Did they (I hope not) kill him? Maybe we'll find out in the Encyclopedia.  ;)

I'm hoping you are right, Sharon, and Stan went back to the Knight Bus and... :-X...popping pimples.  ;)

I didn't want to start a new topic just for this, but have a peek at the JKR website.  The wizard of the month is Harry and the spoiler tells a tiny bit more about his future career  ;D

Wow - head of Department by the age of 27... Harry's doing a lot better than me :P (same age which I have suspected for a while ;))

: Re: I've finished it!!!

Ah but can he call himself Dr Harry  ^-^

: Re: I've finished it!!!
: tialessa October 02, 2007, 02:33:10 AM
Okay, there was either a typo or I misread it... said he was head of the Department by 2007 & started at age 17.  Does that mean the series wrapped up in 1997 timewise or it was supposed to read 2017?

: Re: I've finished it!!!
: kbmum October 02, 2007, 02:49:35 AM
Harry was born in 1980, so he entered Hogwarts in 1991 at the age of 11 and turned 17 in 1997.  He would be 17 until his next birthday in July 1998.  He must have been hired as an auror in, say, June 1998, not long before turning 18.

Heh heh.

Bless her - JK just couldn't keep up with our dates without her notebook catching fire, so she got a little behind... so that means somewhere out there Harry has just been promoted to Head of the Department - let's drink (tea) to that ;)

To Harry!  Thanks for the clarification, kbmum!  I KNEW I was missing something important...

Yeah, but don't forget that the job probably wasn't quite as taxing or dangerous as it was back when Mad-Eye was at the top of his game. The older aurors probably figured it was safe to retire to enjoy their remaining limbs and other body parts.  8)

With Professor Kettleburn, of course ;)
